Bite Me, Nigal >8^P~~~
Don't like wild people, huh?

Jimi was an airborne infantryman too.

He likened some of his guitar sounds to the sounds of the wind while jumping.

Dick Dale made sounds with his guitar like the surf and roar of his big cats.....yes, he trained big cats.......not quite Sigfried and Roy.

Start Saving YourCash Now ForYour McCartney Ticket
Paul's last tour had ticket prices from $50 - $250. Of course, don't expect to see him upclose if you only shell out for the $50 tickets.

But to see one of the most legendary musicians of all time, imo, the prices are worth it. And believe me, I've spent thousands of dollars to see live music.

And in regards to Jimi Hendrix, there is a reason why he always tops the charts wrt greatest guitarist, and those who don't like him simply can't appreciate his genius and what he "created" to pave the way for other guitarists. Nobody played or currently works a guitar like Jimi did...it's a fact that cann't be denied, even by the great guitarists of today.

Thanks, Buddur!

If Stevie Ray were alive, I believe he would credit Jimi as his number one influence.

Take that, Nigal!

#&%!$ Is In The Ear Of The Beholder
Jimi, on the other hand, was a hard-working musician who practiced like a fiend and played the "chittlin' circuit" with blues artists between '62 and '66.

Funny you should mention that MarkO, This past week I listened to a Jimi CD I got ?somewhere? called "Whipper" which is a CD-length collection of those early days. Except for the killer guitar solos the music doesn't sound like Jimi's, it's more typical of the sound you'd hear in early 60's rock. It's great nonetheless.

Buddur, have you heard Jimi's BBC Sessions?

Some of it was pre-wah-wah, as were his first two albums.

I have Cream and Rory Gallagher BBC Sessions too.

Wow!!!

They had live radio shows with Alexis Korner as the host who also played back-up guitar on some of the songs.

Jimi talked about how the audience was the fourth member of the band and how the audience really turned him on.

His chop were amazing on those recordings, he must have been practicing for many hours a day then.

Towards the end of his life he was unhappy with some of his performances and vowed to get back to more practice time to clean up his live shows.

"Jimi was an airborne infantryman too.

I liken his guitar to the sound of wind too...wind being broken. He was a phucking storner who overused feedback and had to fall back on parlor tricks such as lighting his guitar on fire, crashing into his amps, trying to play with his teeth, ect. Real musicians don't have to fall back on these childish things when they can really play.

Budder- Paul's one of the few people I'd lay out big cash to see. My buddy who is a Beatle fan too flew to Atlanta to see him last tour. He said it was worth every dime. Then again, I just laid out $160 for 2 Siendfield tickets. So what do I know?

To answer the question--George--also my vote for one of the coolest people who ever lived. He played guitar in the "less is more" style. Even Jimmy Page noted that his solos were always spot on. Listen to "Old Brown Shoe", a real rock tune. Or the beautiful solo and fills he played on "Something." I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan when I was eight years old. Still love them. I have seen Paul and Ringo. The first tune I played on my guitar, here in Saddam's palacein Babylon was "I'm Looking Through You." Beatles country music at that! In Pop music, the Beatles rule. In Rock, Led Zeppelin has no equal. I am the ultimate authority onthis, so there is no need for further discussion!!!

McCartney is the only man on earth who doesn't realize he wasn't the most talented Beatle. It's pathetic the way he's still jealous of a man who's been dead for 25 years.

But don't take my word for it, this hilarious article sums it up pretty well.

kleetn, I would say Paul and John were equally talented. It's all opinion though, Paul is pretty darn talented no matter what anyone says. I think the rivalry between Paul and John is silly and for the large part is in fans heads.

"what is everyone's favorate solo beatle's album. That is hard to pick as well."

I'd say for me it's a toss up between Ram and McCartney. I also have the best of Lennon and Imagine but I just didn't care for John's music as much as Paul's. John was very political.

yeah, that was 1971 though. I am talking presently. Alot of that song (lyrics) John didn't even write. Yoko and Allen Klien wrote a pretty good chunk of it. Ringo was there and got pissed off at the lyrics and walked out.

Paul has some great solo records.

Band on the Run
Flaming Pie
Back to the Egg
Flowers in the Dirt
Tug of War

As for John

Plastic Ono Band and imagine

George has some great stuff too.

Paul would be better off if he let someone else write the lyrics.

Bang, bang, Maxwell's silver hammer

Ugh.

But in this ever-changing world in which we live in...

Can you say prepositional redundancy?

Silly Love Songs. As Dave Barry said, it marked the official point at which Paul stopped being a former Beatle and started being embarassing.

Oh yeah, I didn't mean to make it sound like they stayed pissed at each other. And it's not surprising that Yoko had her hands in it. I think that may have been a major issue was her getting her hands into the music.

Can you tell me what a lot of the Wings stuff is like? The only stuff I've really heard was the hits.

It is VERY hard to come up with 5 favorite Beatles' songs!

But, these are personal favs of mine:

1. Tomorrow Never knows
2. I Want You (She's So Heavy)
3. Hey Jude
4. I Feel Fine (the first major commercial use of feedback in a rock 'n'roll song)
5. Happiness Is A Warm Gun

(Footnote: it is extemely hard to end this list here)

6. Blackbird (so I count as well as Nigal! Sue me!)

favorite Beatle in order
1. John Lennon
2. George Harrison
3. Ringo Starr
4. Paul McCartney

The White Album and Sgt Peppers are my favorite 2 albums.

Last night I heard an awesome version of Norweigan Wood. The song was put to a jazz beat.

There are some pretty good wings records. Venus and Mars is a great record, I really like Back to the Egg. Egg has Rockestra on it. Biggest rock band ever assembled I think. It's hard to pick a fav though. Paul's solo stuff is great too. I think Flaming Pie is a super album and is very Beatlesque and even reminescent of some Wings stuff. I think his 1989 release, Flowers in the Dirt is great and that has a lot songs on it that he co-wrote with Elvis Costello. Can't forget Band On the Run, Rolling Stone says that it is the Best post Beatles album.

If you ever get 3 Paul McCartney records and not including Ram and McCartney, get Flaming Pie, Flowers in the Dirt and Band on the Run. If you want to go further, get Venus and Mars and Back to the Egg.

Actually
Paul is highly talented. That is what makes it such a tragedy that he procuced so much drivel after the Beatles. Some teams don't work as well when the parts are separated. Thus was the Lennon/McCartney duo. Paul is also a very hard-working musician, and kept the Beatles going far longer than either John or George would have. Ringo, as always, was along for the ride for as long as it lasted.
Oh, and, by the way, Kleent doesn't know his @ss from a hole in the ground. Must be a mold taking over his brain.

Thanks for the suggestions Earth!

I was watching Antique Road Show the other day and this lady had a Beatle’s record that was the “butcher cover” that showed the band with bloody baby dolls on the cover. The original cover was sold for one single day before being pulled. Her record was worth like $10,000 or something! WOW!

they all put out some crap after the Beatles broke up, but there are alot of gems in there. I think that is what made the Beatles so great is they were so good that they could easily filter out the crap and even filter out the stuff that was less than excellent.

I think the people who hate the solo stuff are the narrow-minded types who expect a band to come out with the same type of album time and again. “Hey! This doesn’t sound like Rubber Soul? WTF?”. To say the solo material sucked because it doesn’t sound like the Beatles is ridiculous.
