Komperdell Poles
I have just returned from REI, where I was able to purchase (at the members only garage sale) a pair of Komperdell ski poles. Both are adjustable, but one needs repair. The expansion nut is blown on one of them, but I was reasonable assured that this was easy to fix. I figured that for 10.00, I couldn't lose. Now, where do I get an expansion nut from ?

RE: Komperdell Poles
usually, you need a new pole or pole section.

leki has replaceable nuts, tho.

RE: Komperdell Poles
I have Leki's laqtis, don't have any information that would help with the Komperdell problem. However, it was refreshing to see a post that was not (A) one of spock's BS threads or (B) yo-yo defense

REI is no good. Guy checked it out before I left. I figure that even if I can't get it fixed, I have one treking pole for 10 bones. Thanks for the help, everyone. Please, keep it coming..

RE: Komperdell Poles
Yeah, TD. These poles adjust. The expansion nut is the part that lock the pole at the desired height when you twist it.

I've emailed Leki. It looks like they do sell replacement for it, but I wanted to make sure first before I ordered. Thanks again, Rad for the sugeestion.

Just send an e-mail to Komperdell in english telling them what you want. I'm sure the part is pretty universal. Most Germans speak english.

How'd I do?
...Bought a pair of Komperdell poles today for $15.00...missing the plastic tips and baskets (I can buy parts for$10.40 from Sierra Trading Post-Tips AND Baskets).

The poles are made by Komperdell for LL Bean, 2 section, max extension 145CM, marked Snow - Trek. They are blue and very obviously brand new, not a scratch on them, no wear on the grips, adjustable straps...

Antone know about these? The LL Bean Site had no info...either TOO new, or old, just seldom used...

Which grip did they have on them ST? Rubber? Plastic? Cork? Foam?

just be careful, Kemp's are prone to break ifn they twist loose and stick in the dirt.

I use & like Komperdell 3-sections. I always wanted 3 section so I could attach them to my pack without them getting in the way. (Never have) I did trash the previous set. I'm kinda rough on things & bushwhack. I like carbide tips & I like using the baskets year round (works good for sandy stream crossings & mud too) The paint chips off very easy but I don't care.

Uh Oh. Wonder if this is why I got mine for 60% (plus?) off at REI? I beat the #&%!$ out of my poles - don't know how to be careful.

I'll let you know how many miles I get out of them.

you might try setting the length then using a very small piece of Duct tape to keep them from twisting loose. the natural twist of the wrist tends to loosen them.
Jackstraw

They do tend to loosen a bit - I just thought it was me being stupid. :D

Oh well - they really cost nothing and I really needed them for my kness. When the guy at REI rang them up I blurted out "Are you sure?"

That's the first time I lost my composure when I thought a store had made a big mistake in my favor. ;)

Mine are about 3 years old and have been beat to hell and I've never had a problem with mine twisting lose or breaking. I did have a problem with the [s]little cap thinggy[/s] expanding wedge not catching but I just pulled it out and cleaned out the inside (it seems to have a lot of aluminum power built up over the years) and work great again.

...so, the router is on line, I'm now the uncertain owner of a wireless lan....from 70 feet, the signal to the networked computer in the bedroom is shown as weak...moving the router out of the cabinet and up on top may help...but it's working...

Still no luck finding the poles on line...doesn't matter, I don't use them for hiking anyway, I just needed nesting poles for use when setting up my SilTarp....should work okay for that anyway...

By the way, did I mention that I bought them at UNCLAIMED BAGGAGE?...MOOHAHAHAHAHA!

I have had Komperdell poles for a while now. They are the titanal version (ultralight) - imagine that. I don't give them particularly good TLC and I vault myself across creeks and such with them, so you know they get the crap beat out of them. They have held up pretty well.

They are 3-section poles and a couple of the section have stuck a little when trying to adjust them, but I have been able to force them into working without taking them apart for any type of real cleaning and referb that they most certainly deserve.

i've had a set of 3 section komp's that i've used for 4-5 years. i like them. they've been great sticks.

i use them for my siltarp also. having them twist loose has never been an issue when using them in any manner. i did however, have the same issue as deore with the expansion nut. mine was also due to what appeared to be "aluminum powder".

Hi Sranger
I've been using Komperdells for about 5 years now. Old, but good. If they can handle my fat butt on the down hill, they can handle any thing!

And yes, I'm stil alive! Miss you!
