Dawg-I spoke to the gal this am. She assured me that the CCC camp is open and self-registration is required at the Grundy Parking area. She is supposed to call me back and let me know about the fire situation. The # for South Cumberland Rec area is 931-924-2980. Call em!

CCC Camp
Bear, Dawg, the CCC Camp is .5 miles to the Right of the Gate as you face the Grundy Trail head. Trail to it begins just behind and to the left of the Restrooms and water point at Grundy....Arriving Late? Walk in to the Sign-in board, place a copy of the registration in the box, and then hike, or if you would rather drive due to the late hour, there is a gravel road that runs just outside of the State property line (Face the gate and turn right). Drive down and look for a pole gate on the left of the road, and you are AT the campsite....This is, by the way how the Rangers get around to check, and they WILL check, to see that you made it in allright.

FOR ALL HIKERS: A copy of the registration is required in the window of your vehicle in the parking lot, and a copy must be carried....Also note that the CCC Campsite does allow fires....

GRUNDY is the only parking lot that has a year-round Ranger living at the Trailhead, and the parking lot is lit at night. the Foster Falls Side has a Ranger Residence, but it is Vacant during the Winter Months...BOTH parking lots are Gated and Locked at night, GRUNDY is the one with the shortest walk in to register.

The Grundy Parking Area:

Not hard to find, signs lead the way
In a neighborhood you think, "Its back here?" you may say
It is a small loop, cars park all around
From the road to the pavillion in about one good bound

Looking at the pavillion, water and lavs to the right
Look to your left, registration is in sight
10 feet of the road, sits the Ranger's house
If I got there at night, I'd be quite as a mouse

It's been raining so much in this area that Forest fires will NOT be a problem. The only problem is finding dry wood!

New friends and memories,,,
It is about 7.40 pm Friday11/30-
I look forward to meeting all those
who will join us-it is a beautiful
evening I peered up into te sky to
a full moon- the first moon in 4 days here in Tenessee. The rain is gone, the fire ban is lifted, the
pack is full-
I am about 80 minutes from the trail head and can't leave
until after work Saturday-
Some of you are in route or already
at camp-man I wish I was there...
I have never heard of anything like this before-
as many as 60 people- from all walks of life are gonna meet in the woods-
I just know everyone is going to get along-be BUDS from the "get go"-all to share a meal... How cool is that?
For all who wanted to go- I wish you could have been with us...
Perhaps next time-
This is the type of thing that makes peace in the world-too bad we could not have had this in the desert somwhere east of here...
Breaking bread has a way solving the differences we all have.
