RE: TNF 0 deg. Showshoe Bag
I didn't have the Snowshoe bag, but I did have TNF -5 Bigfoot for 1 season. I wound up selling it because I got cold in it a few times, the insulation started to get flat and the stuffed size was too big. I sold it and bought a TNF -15 Ibex down bag. That was first generation Polarguard, but I didn't like it.

Got it!! I have the older model...hehehe it's about 2-3 years old now. It's a good bag, however if given the chance again I would by a down bag that is equal in rating. It's not about the weight but more so about the size. Like Rad said it is filled with polarguard and it doesn't compress that well. This bag barely fits in by Gregory bag. I have to crush it in there to make it fit. I ofter think that the zipper is going to burst. Net bag will be a Down bag. I have a 40 degree down bag and love it. It crushes up so tiny.

but the compressability is your only complaint? i have a 1970 TNF cat's meow that's about the same size, so that's not a concern for me. i don't want down because i've been rained on a few time when it was 20 degrees (or lower) out.

how about the zipper? cold spots, etc?

toasty warm bud!!
I can't believe that you cat meow is that big, but hey if it is it is. The zipper is cool, it doesn't drag but it does sometimes catch the wind flap if I'm not paying attention to what I am doing.
all in all I like the bag. it's just a little big that's all. I too have been rained on in those temps, but todays bags have a water repellant shell and I don't sleep out in the rain I sleep in a tent. The little bit of water that may get in while the flap is open, or that I drag in isn't going to be a factor. I also always put all my gear inside plastic while in my pack.

like i said. my cat's meow is OLD. i weighed it.... 3 pounds, 11 ounces. blech! the snowshow weighs an ounce or two less. down=work (to me). i'm lazy. this cat's meow has served me well (despite the abuse that i've given it), but sometimes it gets a wee bit too cold. i may make some compression caps for the snowshoe, because it looks like the size is the only concern. the weight looks ok to me.

RE: TNF 0 deg. Showshoe Bag
My dad has an older bigfoot,, 3#polarguard, about 20 years old and still works fine for him,, I have a 30 year old 3# fiberfill 2 bag that's done fine for me as well,, I keep hearing everybody going on about down but I've had to help way too many folks that used down and didn't have wool or synthetics with them,, any dampness in cooler weather and down KILLS,, once it damps down there is no way to fluff it up till it dries on its own. I've proven the advantages of synthetics by soaking my bag, wringing it , hanging it for half an hour, and then sleeping in it in 20 degree weather,,I slept nice and warm.Wool does almost as well and while I admit down stuffs down tighter, it's loft that counts,, down will give more cold spots than synthetics if you're a restless sleeper.

Don't get it wet and don't worry.

The only way I would go back to synthetic would be:

a. Trek through the rainforest, inc. Olympic Peninsula, WA.

b. Taking a boating trip.

Neither I do frequently.
