Writing a presentation on Backpacking fo r a class

“Hey, I need some help, inspiration or something. I'm a backpacker--though I haven't had time to do it lately--and I'm taking a class called the Geography of Recreation and Sport. I have to do a 5 minute presentation on backpacking. There's another guy in my class also doing backpacking. He's more familiar with the Western U.S. and I'm much less traveled than he is. Most of my experience has been in N.C. and S.C.. Any ideas? It needs to pertain to Backpacking with relevance to geography...I guess I could do it about how it is specific to the eastern U.S. I need help soon. I could do this myself, but I am a very very busy student and am short on time to do research. bertmorris@hotmail.com”

I could RAMBLE for 5 mins.. most of my presentations are 45.. ok.. think.. geography.. how many times have you left basecamp at 55 degrees to be at 25 by late afternoon.. with a 2000 foot elevation climb.. and the trees falling away.. giving way to rhodendron.. and fir.. last night's frost.. or glimpse of snow brushed in like an artist's rendering.. field and meadow.. turning to rock and hand-hold climbing..

just close your eyes.. and think back.

You could say just about anything-they won't know the difference.. Get a topo of the Topsail Island N.C.

“Maybe talk about why hike in different topography. Why walk in flat-lands, mountains, or something like the Kettle Moraine in WI (can you tell my roots?) Guess what I'm heading for is bio-diversity. That's gotta last 5 minutes even if you don't know the flaura and fauna.”

“I would recomend reading The Articles on TT. If need be, ask Matt, our webmaster to send you the article that he wrote last year about the time of backpacking, and how peopl jusge time by miles not seconds, and how relaxing it was. I sited that article a few times, my self. I would recomend sending an e-mail for that article.”

“5 minutes ain't alot. I would pick a region or area like Standing Indian or the Joyce Kilmer Forest and write about the different hiking possibilites like the super steep climb up Albert Mountain at Standing Indian. I would love to do field research for that!”
