I've never heard of this before. Where is Mid-Continent? If you live there, please post. I'd appreciate more information.

Oh, BTW, Matt, don't take offense at my post. In this age with all the dotcoms crashing and burning, my hat is off to you in running a surviving business. You do make money on this thing, right?

Mid Continent
I think Mid Continent must be in Nebraska or Kansas. With all the "West Coast Rules" and "East Coast Rules", I think it should be the Continental Divide of course.

The Rockies and no rules!

Hey, RL, Midcontinent in reference to what? That is a phrase that is pretty broad.

Finally something I know. The geographical center of North America is in..... RUGBY, NORTH DAKOTA. Been there, done that.

The north-south continental divide runs through the west side of South Bend, IN (Did y'all forgot about that majestic range?). Guess that should place me near mid-continent? :)

We have some 7-Up distributers known as Mid-Continent Bottlers in my Ioway town. :-) So I guess it's HERE!

If you wonder whether to call a local hike an ECT or WCT or something else because neither fits, you're mid-continent.

BTW I tend to think more in terms of East or West than "coast," with the dividing line somewhere just west of the Mississippi River.

Thus we have an Ozarks ECT (Arkansas's in the eastern half of the U.S.), a Red River Gorge ECT (Kentucky's in the eastern U.S. even though it's several hundred miles from the coast), a Savage Gulf ECT (same).

Likewise the Montana trip would be a WCT or PCT even though it's several hundred miles from the Pacific coast. Maybe there's room for a RMT sub-designation for those folks in the Rockies.

I bet that "Mid continent" is in reference to mid-west. Don't any of you remeber the past debates as to what is midwest and why it's called that? Everyone was against the term midwest except for the midwesterners.

If mid-continent is midwest, where is eastwest?

Steve...EXACTLY

I think mid-continent is somwhere roughly 2.5 inches "chinward" of my navel prolly 10.25 inches "south" of my left nipple in a small tangle of hair.

Well, if possession is nine tenths of the law, then by rights, Michigan, Wisconsin and the surrounding area should have first dibs on the title "west" because we had it first.

Back when the country was new, "west" was the proper term geographically. Hence, the "Northwest Territory" and "Western Conference" - precursor to college football's Big Ten.

So, I think that all people to the left of the Mississippi in some of these nouveau states like California should find their own name. West is already taken.

I agree it's relative--to the coast. Everything between the Rockies and Appalachians is Mid-continent. And I live in Chicago.
