Good job matt
Matt, you have done a great job on this web site. As a graphic designer my self I recognize the amount of work put into this. You have done an excellent job. This site earns a "above average" rating on the Ice Tea's Goblin to God scale.

In order for Trail talk to move up in ranking to "god like" or if you're Muslim "Ala Like" you will have to carry over some of the features that built trail talk to what it is today.

I really liked the idea of knowing who is posting, and when they are. As we both know, this site was founded, on "chatter". Some times when I'm posting and reading trail talk on a slow posting day or a day when I don't have the time to read every ones post I looked at the "last ten posters" list and selected the posts that they posted on. Whether it be because I find that person (rad) funny and there are good chances of them posting something to brighten up my day, or some one who is very knowledgeable of gear(rad), or some one who can write better then an English prophesier at Harvard (Bigfoot). I select those threads because I like the people who posted on them. The last ten posters list made life easier; I feel that it is one of the items that TT was founded with, and with out it Trail Talk may not be the Trail Talk that I once devoted my time to.

Searching for old threads is tough. I like that it lists where the link is going like it says in green “trail talk” but I wish it said the tread directly under it or something so I don’t have to filter through all this garbage just to find one thread. For example I was searching for my longest running thread I ever started “the HTML thread” I search “the HTML thread” and it was found on the 2nd page number 15. This is what it says about the HTML thread when I search for it “15. trail talk
(8% match)
... places trail talk trails Click Here create account login Thread The HTML Thread 0 of 309 messages posted in the past 1 day Change Date Rage: All Last 1 day Last 2 ...”

I have to read through sentences just to fin key words of HTML. Now you may think, its not all that bad, but that was the 15th thread, now if I’m in a hurry and I’m skimming with my eagle eye I may miss those words. In addition it stats that it is a 8% match. In your little description every word that I searched for was there it should be a 100% match. I found this to be a great discouragement to continue.

I like the idea in TT today where all the posts where on the same page. I hate when I’m on the internet and doing a search and it list top 10 links out of 400, then I have to click on page 2 to get the next ten. One of the great things about the internet is that there is unlimited space on one page. So please rid of first 50 post on the first page the 2nd 50 and so on. I really like that in TT to day if I wanted to read new stuff I just scrolled down. Now I would have to click on page 2, 3 or 5 to get the new stuff. This isn’t a long wait for me because I have a fast computer and with in the next week I will have cable so loading all those pages wont be a problem, and in less then 2 years I will be at college sitting on a T3 LAN, but many TTers are stuck with 56gay(56k), and loading those pages will just take to long.

I really like the lay out, and design. I see that you took a lot of time to do this and it shows. I love this legend thing with the little icons. The design is great, even with out applying any laws of Gestalt, but I don’t think you’ve studied graphic design so I wouldn’t expect you to know that. I just checked out imahiker.com and thruhikers.com today after whack-ass-bills advertisement, and they suck. This site even with the few changes that I didn’t like is still better then them.

This site is new face-lift of TT is good, but it could be better. I believe that the general TT population feels the same way I do in this matter. I hope and beg that you bring back the very things that made TT better then any other site on the net. You had this site in my mind better the Adobe’s or Microsoft’s web pages, please keep up the Trail Talk Tradition of excellence.

Sincerely
Ice Tea
John

Can I assume from Mr.Tea's excellent grammar that a spellchecker is included with this site?

Kudos to you Mr.Matt for the new format!

This sure is different. I like it. Awesome job, Matt. You run a great site here. Please tell me I can stay if I play nice?

God help me, I just can't do it...

I feel it's relevant to mention that Nigal has had carpal tunnel surgury on both arms! LOL!!!

This new format will take awhile to get used to but it's a good thing. I'm noticing lots of neat little things like the font change. It'll be harder to "torll" as someone else now. I guess I'll have to find something new to amuse myself with. :o)
