“Does anyone own the Snow Peak- Giga Power White Gas Stove?

Doesn't need primming , etc.

“LOL . . . don't believe it was finally made avail until 11/1/01. Funny it was someone's editor's choice award back in March and not released until Nov. I'm also waiting to see one.”

“I read about it in Backpacker, they gave it editors choice, but the stove is very expensive.”

“It was supposed to be released in August according to the Snow Peak Website...hmmmmmmm that's wierd.

Sure would like to see one burn...it's supposed to be really quiet and totally adjustable.”

“Rad uses one. He used it on our Blood Mountain trip last winter. He seemed to like it pretty good.”

“It looks really good but at $150, I'd feel like a sucker buying one now. That's twice as much as most other stoves, and I'm sure the price will come down. Think for now I'll get a Whisperlite.

Does anyone here have one, or even seen one in action? Don't think it was the SnowPeak Gigapower that Rad used on Blood Mountain, it wasn't released yet.”

“I beta tested a new MSR called the Simmerlite that is supposed to be comming out in January. I don't know the price, but it was lighter than the Snow Peak WG. It did require priming, but it was easy as all get out to do and required less pumping than that Snowpeak. And the new bayonet mount for the fuel bottle was nice.”

“sgt rock: how does one become one of these beta testers. I've got a list of equipment I would glady beta test . . . of course assuming I get to keep it when done . . . or the testing lasts for years ;)”

“So what's the matter with priming? It's not as nearly frightening as it looks. Once you get used to the idea of setting your stove on fire first, the rest is a piece of cake.

Spending big bucks to buy a stove just to avoid priming seems crazy to me!”

“Jerbear has a small squirt bottle with alcohol that he uses to prime his stove. That way he avoids gasoline flare-ups altogether.”

I have used MSR stoves exclusively since 1981 ...I know all about priming a stove! I used a Taiwan Svea copy before that. I have never even owned a canister stove for backpacking. My first MSR was a model G ...I still have it and it still works. The Snow peak is lighter and quieter and easier to start....I'd shell out the dough for that if their claims are true.”

“dude, steve is right. mine is the gigapower. they are talkin' about a white gas stove.”

“I wasn't impressed with BP mag's write up about getting that Snowpeak gas stove started as well as the fact that it doesn't seem to like to start well at cold temps. The instructions sound a little cryptic and complicated with much flipping of levers and such. I don't think much of the design either, it looks fragile. The boil time seems average at best.

I'd rather see them get a few white gas stove generatione under thier belt and perfect them first.”
