With all the pissing and whining going on...
I just wanted to say THANK YOU! for this site. I drop in here everyday to see what the rest of the misfits of the backpacking world are up to.
And I enjoy this site and all the banter it provides along with trip reports, gear reviews, etc.

Things are a little different in here ...but I for one will be able to adjust...no problemo!

Thanks Again!!!

skull I think he is one of the trolls hear, that would mean he has tons of fun. Come on, if you believe that he reads our posts day in and day out with out having the need to vioce his opion, they you may have been fooled.

There is a reason that Matt doesn't repy to any thing that doesn't have to do with his website. Because if he did, we would match those thoughts with one of our favortie trolls. THink about it.

But if he never posts under any other name then Matt, the webmaster, I am the biggest a$$hole ever to post on this web site.

Well Tea, then you are one big hole. I have never posted under any other name. When I see a subject that interests me, I chime in. But I am a lurker by heart, so I just sit back and watch things roll. And why would I troll my own site and try to stop trolls at the same time? You could say that trolling increases my page counts, but it also decreases the quality of this site. Everything I do is to increase the quality of the site, so that must rule out my being a troll.

I think trolling is one of the funnest things going down on this site. but you allready now that because you see the 10 names I have regerstered to my one e-mail address.

I just think that you nailed me when I was trolling with the name Joe Moma. I was found out by Truth or troll or mirro-troll or one of them, and I just think that no I did a really good job at not using the same langue and I spell checked everthing to a point that when I was caught, I thought imedeatly that it was some one who knows the IP addresses and the e-mail list. That left you, now I may be wrong as I often am

Tea, I can out a troll anytime I want to, but instead I choose to let them run their course. Dealing with trolls for 6 years has taught me many things.

thermarest woes
my thermarest is really slippery. what can i put on it to add some grippiness so i don't keep sliding around? i thought of using rubber cement, silicone caulk, GOOP; but i dont want to wreck the pad. any ideas?

ruck, use the grippy-screen stuff (for lining drawers or shelves with) that they sell at hardware stores. a 2' x 1' piece will do.

Sassafras and birch gave me a good idea 'cause I gots the same problem. Put some friction tape the 'rest or those neat little bathtub gripers on it. Haven't tried it, but will in a few...

In appreciaiton
for this site & your time & patience, thanks very much, Matt!

It's been fun & now I see these changes, these differences, and different = good!

The regulars here know I seldom post and yet I have met & enjoyed the company of over 40 people on the trail thanks to this site. Well, 44 ppl, and no, I'm not gonna list them! I've traveled to areas I might not otherwise get to see, and enjoyed the generous hosting by other TT hikers giving freely of their time to orchestrate trips. THANKS, MATT!

slippery thermarests
Another idea Jerbear showed me on the Ozark hike is to sew a fleece cover (thin) that will go completely around your thermarest. Not only does it stop your bag from sliding on the pad, but it also stops your pad from sliding across the floor of your tent or ground cover. Bpbaby (our resident expert with needle and thread IMHO)talked about taking orders for those that are interested..she would need the size/type of your thermarest.

Yes, Skiracer, I have heard that seam seal applied to BOTH sides of the thermarest works wonders. You need to put it on both sides for the reason listed above.

Matt, thanks for adding the last posters section and the bonus title posted too, also. It really makes things alot easier to follow. Any chance of getting more than 10?? (always trying for a little more!!)

And also thanks for this great websites. As a solo female backpacker, it has allowed me the opportunity to go on some great hikes with other TT-ers, in a safe and friendly environment.

I can never thank you enough. God Bless!

Re thermarest slippage.
Cut the legs off a pair of pantyhose and slide it over your mat.
Just dont ask me how I know.

Thermarest slippage cure:

Get a piece of that rubber rug mat, the stuff that's made to keep rugs from slipping on the floor. It's lightweight and you just have to lay it on your pad, no permantent attaching. Inexpensive too. Rolls up tiny to fit in the pack.

I just wanted to say thank you Matt
for fixing the multiple page/last 10 posters issue. Anybody else notice that when you click on a last poster and it's a thread with multiple pages it now goes to the last post instead of the first one. I don't know when you fixed that Matt, but thank you. It really is so much more convenient now.

Why does it no longer always show total posting count for a particular thread (for example, this one shows only one posting on the thread and Obi's thread about hiking the JMT just shows a couple). Some of them seem to have a total count stilll.

pepperDog -

Are you asking about the number shown by the topic on the main TT page or on the thread page itself? Mine shows 2 posts on this thread now on the TT page but at the top of this page it says "2 of 48 messages posted in the past 1 day".

You can change the default number of days to show and whether all messages or only messages in date range are included in the message count by going to the lower part of your 'edit account' page.
