What was wrong with the old TT? I don't see anything new of value.”

“How come the "Sections" Icons have to be shown twice? The way I see it once is enought. That leaves 8 les icons to have to redraw every time.”

“IMO, blaming the icons for slow loading is a red herring. each section icon is less than 400 bytes, and most icons are less than 200 bytes. this seems pretty minimal to me.”

“I will throw a little light on the subject. The graphics are not the problem with the slow loading. From what I can track down, it is the new database I am using. TT is very database intensive, and that is what is causing the slow down for the main TT page. You can check this out yourself by looking at some of the other pages like articles or gear.

I will keep working on the database. For you tech weenies, I moved the website to a dedicated Red Hat server, so I am now using MySQL. The old site was on a shared host and used SQL Server. So of course the performance of MySQL will be a little less than SQL Server.”

A peculiar thing. I don't often log in, only if I want to say something. I just check the board and cruise on through.

Now when I check in, (having logged off internet explorer and back on) the site is "frozen" where I last saw it. In order to see the new threads that have posted in the intervening 2 hours I have to hit my refresh button. Not a biggie. It just adds a couple of minutes to my trip through.

“i noticed that also lee. i thought it may have had something to do with the way i set up my new webbrowser and not looking for new info everytime i visit a page. maybe it is a cookie thing.”

an addendum. I stayed logged in this time. When I came back it had not refreshed itself. Stuck at 3:00pm, my lat visit.

Also. Doesn't seem to have saved my preferences for the 1 day viewing. Am now seeing 3 days again.”

“I noticed that too. when I logged off last night I was set to two days. When I went to the website this am it went back to three days, until I logged in. Then it went to two days. Changed to one day but not much improvement.”
