A question of etiquette?
Thanksgiving afternoon, and in my house was my dad, my mom, my two sisters, husbands, nephews, kids.. in-laws and outlaws, friends of the family.. we had made plans and the time was fast approaching when we would have to either scrub those plans or ask our guests to leave.

A question of etiquette? Is it ever appropriate to ask quests to leave your house? And if so, for what reasons?

don't make other plans, when you invite that many people over. i host a lot of company parties, and i make sure that i have no other responsibilities on those evenings.

Usually if you start discussing the plans and what time you need to leave, ect..., they will either express an interest in joining you or take the hint and leave at the appropriate time. Making it clear that you are leaving and inviting them to join you also works.

There is a definite time and place for asking quests to leave...

...but Thanksgiving is not one of them IMO.

If the guests were invited, (and I presume they were), I do not think it would be prudent to ask them to leave.

Oh, that's different TD. Just let them kick back, give your dad the remote, supply your mom with a good book, tell them you will be back "later" and go on with you plans. It will remind them of you teenage years....LOL.

Next year when the second Harry Potter movie comes out, be sure to get tickets for Mom & Dad as well.

Speaking of guests that won't leave, remember the Saturday Night Live sketch where John Belushi was "The Thing That Wouldn't Leave!"?
