Harry Potter is an obvious attemp by our humanistic society to align the evils of witchcraft and sorcery with mainstream culture.

We can NOT allow the pliable minds of our youth to see such trash.

*lol*

Gotcha.

heh.. I LOVED it.. have read three of the books completely.. stated on the fourth, but got bogged down and didn't get a chance to complete it.

Watched the entire movie, remembering parts I had read, and how they differed slightly in the movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and everyone I know went -- did also.

Which character did you like the best.. MEANING... which character did you think they did the best job of creating the idiom you perceived in your mind as you read the book?

(Wasn't Snapes incredible?)

it was entertaining. definately NOT as good as those british critics said. the effects were actually cheesier than i thought, and the kids were better actors than i thought. kids, in films, are usually the most irritating part. it's kind of ironic, since kids are great actors in real life! LOL!!!!

LOL, rad! yeah, you're right about the effects. MOST of it was like i'd imagined, but especially when it came to the scariest parts (in the book), i think it was lacking.

Special Effects: At times a little cheesy, I agree -- but I did enjoy the quidditch match, and the wizard's chess at the end wasn't bad.

The guy that played Snapes (I don't know why his name has escaped me!) is really perfect for that kind of role. I was especially pleased to see him. However, I also felt that something was lacking something although I can't quite name what.

I think the Snapes guy also played in the DieHard or Lethal Weapon stuff.. I can't place him exactly.

As for something lacking? Maybe. 2.5 hrs is a long time for ANY movie, but I still look forward to Book II sometime in 2002.

oh! wanna hear something cool? the same day we saw HP, we went shopping, and my friend bought some jewelry. later, when we were watching the movie, i realized the stone in the necklace she'd bought was lapis lazuli...the Philosopher's Stone!! :-)

Lapis Lazuli? Naw.. couldn't be, cos it got destroyed in the movie so there would not be anymore.

I luv that stuff. Use to be a rock hound, and grind/polish rocks long ago.

that the one with Brad Pitt in it, right? where he is caught behind lines.. and (can't remember his name) has to go in and save him.

how was it?

Robert redford had to manipulate the situation to save him. It was a very good movie, especiially since Brad did prance around naked the whole time.

I really enjoyed the Harry Potter books thus far and am looking forward to the movie. My *&^% kids went and saw it on their own, so I'll have to admit that I am seeing it for myself and not just to take them.

This past week, as I convalesced after surgery I saw three movies: Memmento (great!), Putney Swope (late 60's wackiness from Robert Downey Sr.), and Mullholland drive (very interesting, and stimulated a great discussion with my sons and my girl friend afterwards).

Snape was Alan Rickman, who is excellent in just about everything he's in. He was in one of the Die Hard movies; he plays a lot of villains, but then he was also one of the (good) male leads in Sense and Sensibility.

Excellent cast all around, I thought. It's fun to see old favorites like Rickman, John Hurt (the wandmaker), Robbie Coltrane (in a very different role from Cracker), Maggie Smith, and Richard Harris.

Skullcap--That's Alan Rickman. He's good. I liked him in Truly, Madly, Deeply. Yeah, I know; it's a "chick movie" but I really liked it.

It is my personal opinion that Alan Rickman (thank you!) is the best in whatever roll he plays and that has been the case in every movie I've ever seen him in.

I'm still laughing at Buddha Bear and I will be for quite a while. Makes it difficult to type, actually. I'd appreciate it if you'd proof before posting in the future.

Love Harry Potter, I read the first because I needed to see what my daughter would be reading and the next two for fun, they're light and pretty well written. No satanic stuff to fear.

Mullholland drive offers decent nutrition for the mind too... among other things, it offers a powerful "critique" of Hollywood.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
Buddha Bear is not, never will be, and has no desire to be with another man in anyway that would be considered sexual (not that there is anything wrong with that). Furthermore, although he enjoys movies with Brad Pitt, he does not attend the movies to see Brad's anatomy, he is there to watch the acting of Mr. Pitt. (not that there is anything wrong with watching Brad Pitt movies just to see his washboard stomach).

Paid for by the Buddha Bear loves hot chicky mamas, and only wishes to drink beers, hike and belch around other guys association.

It's funny because I heard a comedy clip on the radio on the way in. The comedian was saying how much things change with age. He said when he was 22, if someone implied he was gay he'd be ready to start a fight. Now he says he's like "yeah, I'm 37 and I'm a little pink cowboy. Yahoo!"
