Does anyone know if a guy can buy canisters mail order? My local source hasn’t had any for four months now. ????? And there is nowhere within an hour and a half from me that sells them. I checked out the bigger on line places and found none.

Nigal - REI has the Garcia Bear Canister. That is what I have and it works fine. It weighs 2.5 lbs...which is difficult to avoid.

Fuel or bear? For Bear, there's info in the back of the backpacker mag on them. I don't think that they would mail fuel ones.

Fuel! Sorry, about that. I know they can't fly them but I didn't know if they would ground ship them.

Man Phil, ya almost gave me a heart attack there with the prospect of a 2.5 pound fual cannister! Shewy!

I guess it is a regional thing - my first thought was bear cannisters, too.

Nigal - I've had fuel canisters shipped from REI this year. They are shipped UPS ground, so they take a little longer to get than other items . . . another three days if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the tip SB. Gonzo, I'm over here near Dayton and General Surplus is the only place in my area that sells them. It turns out they haven't ordered any for four months because they say it costs so much to ship them as they are classed as hazzardous materials. They charge $5.75 per cannister for the 227g. MSR. REI has it for $4.70.

If I went through Columbus on my way to southern Ohio I'd hiot Gaylans on the way to the trailhead but I always head down 35.

If yer up in the Kron area anytime soon, stop in and I'll give ya a couple. lol

I got seven 1# propane canisters in my basement, some are full, most are half-full. They're about 8" tall and HEAVY as all get out. A girl I once worked with gave me them when she moved...I figured someday I'd find a use for them...but that day hasn't come yet.

Are those the big green ones with the big screw threads on top? Like for Coleman lanterns and two burner stoves? I use the sh@t out of those things night fishing in the summer. If you don't think you'll ever use them I'll buy them from ya.
