Titantium Chef - 'And The Winner Is?'View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 27 of 27 messages posted.
Interview With The Winner “We posted our announcement on TrailTalk, the backpacker, and had a great deal of help from Blue Ridge Mountain Sports and REI. "I want to thank Bryan Dodge and Michael Hughes once again, for their participation in Titantium Chef - 2001. I am just so amazed by how many people actually showed up to compete." 1st prize was one of those new titanium cookstoves with instant ignite and immediate blue-hot flame. 2nd was a $20 gift certificate. Great judging and a level of competition we all marveled at. Rick Glenn took the top prize, with what entry? Was it steak, or chicken, or even shrimp, or seafood? No, Rick Glenn beat everyone of us by making cornbread. Yes, I said cornbread. Not the courtbouillion or the Cajun chili. Not the slabs of Yellow fin Tuna. Not the teriyaki fajitas or the black bean curry. Cornbread, and oh my gosh, was it good. That's what I heard anyway. Rick scored huge points in presentation, taking the time to serve his entree on a small table complete with tablecloth. "I try to decide what I cook best, and then figure out how to prepare it in the woods." Rick used a pair of titanium pans, face to face and cooked vegetarian cornbread pie that I am looking forward to listing in Titanium Chef. I had the chance to talk to our winner after the contest had wound down, as most by now were standing in close to the fire and sharing favorite tales of what, where, when and how that managed to take all of us right there. "I am already thinking about next year."” 11:21:50 AM 12/03/01 “So was this the first annual competition? Maybe I'll start gearing up with some kind of fondue for next year.” 11:27:44 AM 12/03/01 “SwissMiss: My guess is that Titanium Chef will come back around for at least one MORE year.” 12:18:26 PM 12/03/01 “The entries to the cookoff were all fabulous! It was difficult for me being a judge to rate all the entries since each deserved to win. I have to admit that the cornbread pie was sooo good that I asked for a second helping! By the way, the recipe is in the December issue of Southern Living Magazine. Rick told me that he enjoys trying new recipes and adapting them for the trail. I am already looking forward to next year, and I think we can expect the prizes to be even better next year.” 5:08:00 PM 12/03/01 “Who was Rick anyway? Was he one of your buddies from Tennessee Trails?” 5:14:41 PM 12/03/01 “Also, I want to thank wwwanderer for helping me carry in all the prizes from the Foster Falls trailhead.” 5:15:18 PM 12/03/01 “Also, I want to thank wwwanderer for helping me carry in all the prizes from the Foster Falls trailhead.” 5:19:07 PM 12/03/01 Rick Glenn “Never met him before in my life, but a kewl dude. Lives down in Georgia.. and saw the announcement for the challenge on the Chattanooga hiking club page.” 8:31:25 PM 12/03/01 “Well, he certainly is a good cook! If he shows up next year, he'll definitely be the one to beat.” 8:35:33 PM 12/03/01 “heh.. I imagine he will.. he had fun.. my guess is that if we do this again.. a lot more folks will come also. We might have to have categories.” 8:41:58 PM 12/03/01 “Yeah, and I will OWN the desert category!!! Moohahahahaha!!!” 8:43:56 PM 12/03/01 “Just wondering, were the folks that showed up as "non-TTers" told about this site? I talked to a few people but I know there were some I didn't get to meet.” 9:03:46 PM 12/03/01 “The ones that I talked to were. And I overheard Jerbear telling folks about us.” 9:05:26 PM 12/03/01 NON TT'ERS “I know of four the three young guys-(shared tnman's fire) Chris #1- Chris#2& Shawn who walked in with me--they are going to start to post soon- also the fellow who shared our site-Bill- is going to join us soon as "Hammockman" if he can get the name.” 9:54:38 AM 12/05/01 “Awesome.. didn't even know they were there.. Chris and chris wrote me.. said they prolly could not come.. so that is great that they did.. Never met Shawn.. but hey.. there are a lot of ppl I didn't get to meet much.. wow.. biggest hiking even I have ever been on. As for Bill.. yes.. he DID get Hammockman. He is TTA-Nashville.” 10:49:02 AM 12/05/01 “Hey Everybody, In case you don't remember me, I'm Rabbitman's wife.
