Hobb's Cabin Backpack in January
Anyone interested in backpacking to Hobb's Cabin in Savage Gulf? I should know before the end of the week what weekend I can go. It is about a 15 mile roundtrip. Several folks from Nashville that didn't get to go to Small Wilds are interested in going. I'm going to talk to REI about doing something on this trip associated with gear.

It is a long easy walk-Katibug.

Keep in mind that if someone gets to the cabin prior to your group they have "squatters rights" and they do not have to let you stay inside-
Watch out for mice-
Once the chimney gets hot it draws
well-gets a bit smokey starting out though.
Walk the rim trail in- go out via dinky line-
The trip is actually closer to 20 miles when all is said and done- you have to add the loop at the start of the trail-
The spring is reliable but small-it is out back of the cabin.

Several comments: (1) It is always a good idea to bring along a tent when one hikes to Hobb's because of it being such a popular place. (2) I know that BRMS is hosting an outing there-everyone might not be able to go on that outing (3) This outing is going to be posted in the Sierra Club newsletter because several Sierrans are interested in going (4) REI has indicated interest in participating in upcoming Sierra Club related outings. Any other questions-feel free to ask. Right now, I am tenatively looking at Jan. 26 & 27 or Feb. 2 & 3.

Got my work schedule for the next couple of months, so it looks like Feb. 2-3 will be the date for this trip.
