Jaco, Jaco, Jaco!
If only we could get Jaco (Pastorius) to play it!

Unfortunately, Jaco is not with us any more. My son-in-law, a newphew of Jaco, plays on the new release. He is one of a number of outstandins bass players, each of whom played a number with the Peter Graves Orchestra for the CD. His selection is the one most played on the radio. The CD, released August 26th, is at the top in all Jazz listings, currently.

Jaco has always been known as the unsung KING of the bass.

Dee-wight Yoakam
Where IS that Mile Monster when I need him? He of all people can surely relate to my appreciation for Dwight. Being from my neck o' the woods and all. ;-)
When yer from over to Covington, Low Moor, Clifton Forge, Selmer....
thats just part of it. I punished my son today for his mistreating me, by following him around singing Streets of Bakersfield to him. He was actually grinning and starting to get into the groove WITH me. Then he got scared of the vibe and shook it off. "You're SUCH a Redneck MOM!" he sez. "How many of you that sit and judge me, ever walked the Streets of Bakersfield?!" I sang back to him.
He just got flustered and gave up. ha!

Hey, I AM 100% MESSED UP! I even like old Buck Owens. ;-) How can it be helped when I grew up watching Hee Haw? It was either that or Lawrence Welk . LOL

cute

I heard a skit this morning on NPR from the old Nat'l Lampoon Radio Show where they poked Lawrence Welk in the eyes with steel spikes just to see how he'd react. Imagining LW screaming bloody murder was pretty funny. (Maybe you had to be there!)

Don't go around invoking HEE HAW!!! Laugh-In had the wall with all the doors and windows..... Hee Haw had the cornfield, LOL

Hey -- It turns out that "The Streets of Bakersfield" isn't that old. Sez here it was writ in 1994. Hmm.

I got the new Beatles CD “Let it Be (naked). The differences don’t jump out at you at first but the music is more live and subdued. No brash highs and no orchestration. The vocals are more in the front than the original recording. While the recording is still analogue the tape hiss is not there. A perfect balance! The bonus disk of in studio material is not earth shattering but it is kind of cool.

THE STREETS OF MIAMI
(Allan Sherman)

As I wandered out
On the streets of Miami
I said to meinself
This is some fancy town

I called up mein partner
And said, "Hello, Sammy
Go pack up your satchel
And mosey on down"

I got me a bunk
In the old Roney Plaza
With breakfast and dinner
Included of course

I caught 40 winks
On mein private piazza
Then I rented a pinto
From Hertz Rent-a-Horse

He rented a pinto from Hertz Rent-a-Horse

My partner flew down
On a non-scheduled airline
You never did see
Such a pale-looking man

I recognized him
From his receding hairline
He recognized me
From mein beautiful tan

Twas then that I heard
Fighting words from mein partner
He said, "Marvin, the Roney is no place to stay

I'm going to the Fontainebleau
Partner, it's mod'ner
And I'll charge to the firm 60 dollars a day"

He'll charge to the firm 60 dollars a day

I said to him, "Paleface,
You hanker for trouble
With the company checkbook
You quick on the draw"

He smiled and said, "Stranger,
For me that goes double
'Cause west of the Fontainebleau
I am the law"

Next morning
The whole Lincoln road was deserted
And somewhere a hi-fi was playing a tune

'Cause everyone knew
Someone's gonna be murdered
In a duel in the sun
On the stroke of high noon

A duel in the sun at the stroke of high noon

I took careful aim
With mein trusty revolver
The clock in the Fontainebleau
Struck 12 o'clock

I shot and Sam crumbled
Just like a piece halvah
And that's what they called
A bad day at Black Rock

They came with a posse
And took mein sixgun away
The crowd was too angry
To leave me in jail

The sherrif said, "Outlaw
I'm gon' let you run away
But don't ever be seen
South of Ft. Lauderdale"

So now I can never go back to Miami
And New York is so cold
That a person could die
I'd be better off dead
Like mein late partner Sammy
'Cause he's in that big Fontainebleau in the sky

'Cause he's in that big Fontainebleau in the sky!

my man henry!
I am the man from a human choke hold
I am the product of your restraint
I watched the years pass by me
Never once did I complain
Never once did I say no
Now I watch myself explode
My body is scarred by age
Now you get to taste my rage
From the wreckage of humiliation
I got my self respect
I pulled myself together
What the hell did you expect
You should see the pain I go through
When I see myself I see you
Everything that you did I do
When I see myself I see you
Rage

The dangerous kitchen
If it aint't one thing it's another
In the middle of the night when you get home
The bread things are all dry 'n' scratchy
The meat thing
Where the cats ate through the paper
The can things with the sharp little edges
That can cut your fingers when you're not looking
The soft little things on the floor that you step on
They can all be DANGEROUS.....

Ewker, My mom bought me a really great Carole King CD. Its the lyrics for the kids story "Really Rosie" and "Chicken Soup With Rice". Carole King has an absolutely wonderful voice. She can be so powerful and yet so somber. She can express an amazing amount of emotion in her song. A class act!
