Here’s some cool links if ya get bored. Check out his new video for his new song Youth: http://www.matismusic.com/video/Matisyahu_Youth_VidFull.ram Here’s a thread from his web boards for all his media apperences he’s done. (His boards are awesome and it’s very interesting what happens when you get that many different people together): http://jdubrecords.org/boards/viewtopic.php?t=730 It only takes about two days after a live show for it to be up for downloading on Archive.com: http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=matisyahu%20AND%20mediatype%3Aetree%20AND%20collection%3Aetree” 7:34:46 AM 2/22/06 “Cocklespurs Greatful Dead is pretty good....I have a couple of the GD ties. One in particular is BRIGHT RED with the little dancing bears on it. When we have to do the "Drug Free" day and wear red...I wear that tie. It is sad but I sat in a meeting of DEA, ATF and other agencies and only three people noticed the tie.” 7:45:14 AM 2/22/06 “I too bought Matisyahu's Live at Stubbs. Pretty cool stuff. I tend to like most things that are off-center.” 8:33:20 AM 2/22/06 “"When we have to do the "Drug Free" day and wear red...I wear that tie." Great idea! The red tie would draw attention away from the red blood shot eyes!” 8:36:16 AM 2/22/06 “Nigal, Sitting here listening to Live At Stubbs again... As a rabid fan of reggae, it wasn't hard to justify laying out the cash for the Matisyahu CD, even without ever hearing anything more than a few musical snippets from his NPR interview. His story seemed interesting enough, and it was reggae after all. Reggae, REAL reggae, has been, still is, and will always be the music of expanding social consciousness, of protest, music straight from the heart. Matisyahu has taken reggae into his very core and found a way to paint his own picture, proclaim his own message, to bring the listeners to a place they would never have otherwise wandered. There are probably few bigger fans of reggae in this world than myself and nothing grates on me worse than musicians and bands that bastardize the soul of reggae, steal little snippets and beats and twist it into something it isn't. This CD, and in particular, Matisyahu doesn't dissappoint. It remained steadfast and true to the roots of reggae. It is about expanding consciousness, it remains true to the premise of protest, and it is most definitely from the heart. Spin the track called "King Without A Crown" for a musical example of all those qualities. Money well spent. Can't wait for his new CD to be released. I got into it from hearing Marley. I know a lot of people consider him mainstream but I just love the vibe he give off. Because reggae is so unrecognized I don’t really know who is who in reggae. I like the heavy roots type of sound. My favorite Matisyahu song is Got No Water from his first CD. Got No Water You quench my thirsting soul and you fill my appetite I give myself to you because you treat me right Put my trust in the world and the world gets tight Shift my trust to you it's like a crystal clear night Expand in all directions get the sections to unite Hashem's rays fire blaze light my way light of my life And these days well wait no longer night reaching for my G-d like skyscrapers in the night I said I know its hard inside is empty galus (exile) cuts like a knife Internalize torah vibes bound to feel alright Chorus: Whirlwind of praise from below to above Take flight in the sky got wings like a dove, Soaring to shamayim (heaven) where the angels call in love And the glory of Hashem fits like a glove Hashem rules the world and Israel is his wife Love you yes my G-d with all my heart my soul and my might When I feel you by my side yes I'm flying like a kite You open up my eyes and give me sight Super energized and everyday I feel you give me life I seen the ways of the world intoxifying on pride Young man don't you know drugs impurify your mind When Israel left mitzrayim four fifths got left behind If you got no water how you gonna survive Roots lead you to the well springs so you could stay alive Pharaoh claimed to be a G-d and claimed to make the Nile A crocodile could smile and show his teeth You could see beauty shining externally but that's the story of Greece Inside America bleeds, Israel won't you get up from your knees Its just lies in disguise Torah's truth won't you please realize Given to the humble one on Mt. Sinai Chorus Shma Y'sroel, Hashem Elokainu, Hashem Echad (Hear Israel, the lord is our G-d, the lord is one) The world could just crumble to dust its just us it's not two it's just one The middle road called truth, Torah you sooth my brain bruise Open up peruse with knowledge of G-d And move up an arousal from below till the secrets start to ooze Don't snooze it's pure light the most high wants us alive What's the proof? We got life! Chabad philosophy that's the deepest well-spring Gaining knowledge of G-d while your gaining money Fill up yourself with the light of his majesty In a world of separation that's the only way to be It's time we leave we won't flee just walk out easily If you got no water how you gonna survive” 7:41:44 AM 2/23/06 “Garden State soundtrack. Certainly not the other way around. The world awoke to the sounds of reggae because of Bob Marley. His music touched a place deep within us all and embedded itself there. Never before has a musician had such world wide appeal, such a POSITIVE global effect, such ability to weave a thread that bound us together like an enormous human quilt. No, Bob wasn't really mainstream, he was US. At the risk of sounding like a crackpot, I firmly believe that Bob was sent to us for a reason. His music proved to be a conduit through which messages were poured about how we treat one another as humans and how much better this world would be with a little bit of Love and basic respect. Robert Nesta Marley was a Prophet. Off the soapbox now.... As for other roots-style reggae artists that you'd very likely enjoy: Black Uhuru Israel Vibration Burning Spear Jimmy Cliff Here's one more suggestion, John Brown's Body. They're a bunch of younger guys from the Ithaca, NY area that seem to have a tremendous grasp of what reggae is. The do it well.
