“MOM, I take it that this is a RESEARCH organization. Is this correct? If so, it sounds to be a very worthy charity. Certainly, the researchers have been to college and earned doctorates, etc... Thus they command a pretty salary. If they don't get it there, they will just leave and take up practice where it will earn them a salary commensurate with their schooling. There is nothing wrong with this.

For this research, only the very best will do.

Just noticing that research is expensive, and in this case, it is the researchers salaries that account for a good deal of the expense. Then of course, there is the overhead that any organization will have. Do you know what their financial pie chart looks like?

We are much more selective these days about who we give to because phone solicitations are sometimes from telemarketers who take a huge commission before the charity gets their small cut. In fact, about the only phone solicitations we honor are ones we have some personal knowledge of.”
