“Hey have you tried to connect to the National Park Service website recently? Check it out, it's down. Why? Read the story here http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-000097308dec07.story” 2:37:26 PM 12/08/01 “That shows that none of these people knows a freaking thing about site/server infrastructure.” 10:19:04 AM 12/09/01 What gives? “I just linked right to it by going through a Forest Service server.” 6:03:03 PM 12/09/01 “LaRock - You've improved your website. Nice way to outline your pack.” 10:30:30 PM 12/09/01 “Yes! Thanks for the information.” 12:00:09 AM 12/10/01 “So, does anyone has any idea who we should start bugging to get the NPS website back up? I know as summer approaches I'll need it again. tekapo - thanks” 11:08:21 AM 12/10/01 “A good question. I tried to get there throught the Forestry Service, but did not make it.” 11:37:01 AM 12/10/01 Update “Talked to a Federal computer specialist. A hacker did break into the Dept. of Interior system and breached several firewalls. At the request of BIA a judge ordered all public access shut down until a damage assessment and fix could be completed. This is a real hassle for the other Federal and state agencies also as all the weather data from the nationwide network of RAWS is stored on a DOI system. Some back doors are available to other government agencies but not all data can be accessed that way.” 11:57:08 AM 12/11/01
