Snow Fun

“Did a cool hike this weekend up to Rock Lake. The trail was snowed over and I ended up doing a direct line navigation to the lake. The lake was frozen over and the snow was piling up on the ice. I didn't see even one other person out there, it was great.

It is snowing again right now, I have a feeling I'll be skiing this weekend at Homewood or Sugarbowl.

I've done some hiking in the NH snow over the last month which is great, but I'm anxiously awaiting Maine snow. We got a little this weekend but I won't be able to hike in it before it melts away in these nasty summer temps we've been having. >:(”

“we got powdered with snow here in Southern California, Ok so I live at 4,000 feet but still. Not enough to play in yet though.”

Wanderer was talking about six feet of snow at Sugar Pine S.P., and that is in California.”

“Just hit the slopes at Alpine Meadows this past weekend. It totally kicked ass. Too bad I threw my back out but am recovering quickly and will most likely hit Sugarbowl next weekend or the weekend after. Yeah, baby!!”

Saturday was sunny, blue skies, 60s, and light breeze.
Sunday was whiteout, snowing all day, low 20s.

Question for Tahoe skiiers/snowboarders. We're planning to go to Lassen over the holidays. We'd like to get 2 days of snowboarding in while in the Tahoe area. Any suggestions? (we like the diamonds/double diamond runs, or tree runs are great). Maybe we can meet up with some of you?

Squaw has a lot of blacks and double blacks but I have problems with their environmental policies. They're also the most expensive, if that matters to yas. Alpine Meadows has a fair number of blacks. Northstar is pretty good that way too. Those are the closest on the north shore. Check out snowbomb.com for all dat info.”

“For a two day pass through Kirkwood and Heavenly might be just the ticket...or Squaw and Alpine. I wish I was doin Lassen but I've got so many things goin on everything is "playin it by ear" for me these days. But, if it starts to come together I'll be in touch.”

“I just got out of Lassen after a 10 day trip with the kids, the south side.......we went in the day that series of storms hit, almost two weeks ago. We would have bailed after the first 5 consecutive day's of snow except that it was up to our waist's and avalanche hazard was off the scale....by the time we left some of the tents were in holes over 6/7' deep...we had to get up every 3/5 hours to dig the 7 tents out, all F*%#$@ * day and all F*&$%&$ night for 8 F$%#@^& days.







Yea, I do love the snow............just not that much of it at once.



It does look like we will have enough snow for New Years.......

“First race of the season is going to be cancelled due to lack of snow/cold weather. I'm jealous of all of you with snow. Nothing I'd like better than to strap on the boards and take a few runs on my new sticks.”

“Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I was a beginner skier when I was in Tahoe before. I don't even remember which resort I went to. With the season pass, it'll be hard to pay the individual price for tickets. 8( I'll let you know where we go and maybe we can do a few runs in with you guys. Hey, a TT gathering on the slopes????”

“Sure. Sounds fun. I'll be up staying in a cabin and hitting the slopes the 27th thru the 30th. Lemme know what you guys decide to do and mayeb we can hook up. I'm not up to the blacks yet tho:^/”

“Thanks Steve, but it appears I am officially out of the Lassen trip because I will be moving that weekend...starting off the new year in a new crib and will hopefully pick up a check from the old one shortly thereafter. That should free me up for allot of good times afterwards though. What a long strange trip its been... Sounds like you had a heck of a trip there...bet you're luvin that modern heater and solid roof over your head and watchin the snow through the window?

One of two potential obstacles to the February trip went by the wayside today so things are looking real good for that trip, and I'm getting psyched on the idea of a holiday ski trip (one day only for me). SN, when are you passing through Tahoe?”

“Hey we had snow in Western NJ on Saturday. About one inch of it, but my kids were still able to make two snowmen. Then the snow turn into heavy rain. Oh well!”

“Will probably try to hit the Tahoe slopes on the 28th and/or 29th, then (maybe) again Jan 2nd. If we get two days in before, we'll skip Jan 2nd & go home. (should save the V day). Probably better to get the two day pass also. Decisions, decisions! I'll let you guys know where we decide to go. Looking forward to this!”

“I bet your psyched, the Lassen thing sounds like a great way to ring in the New Year! Those dates sound good, but I'll hang loose and see how things develop.”
