Seizing computers
Florida Today Newspaper in Brevard Co., today, in an article near the bottom of the front page reported that over 100 computers in the area have been seized by a special, government task force for having illegal programs, movies or music. They gained access to the computers by offering a movie for downloading.

I'll buy a newspaper later and try to provide more details tonight after work about 8 p.m. EST.

Cool! Nice to see law enforcment upholding the law. I think the message is, "Don't break the law, and we won't have a reason to come after you.".

This is no different than a cop pulling someone over for a busted tail light just so he can snif your breath and see if you've been drinking...just on a more complex scale.

Is this part of Richard Simmon's campaign to get kids out and exercising?

Kewl, Nige. Maybe someday soon Big Brother will install cameras in each of the rooms in our houses -- "Don't worry! If you don't break the law, we won't have a reason to come after you!"

"They're cracking the security entry codes to gain entry to the computers. They're modern-day safe-crackers. They took a Microsoft Windows version, "Harry Potter" and "Lord of the Rings" which has not been released yet," said Zachary Mann, a Customs' spokesman in Miami.

They already have the ability to remotely listen inside our houses through anything that has a speaker (ie. TV, clock radio, stereo, etc.).

And the aliens have infiltrated our military! I am in reality Batman, and I'm very sorry but I just saw the Bat Signal.

Can't they just reverse the polarity of the wires leading into your house and cause your stereo to suck all the sound out? I know, I've used my headphones as microphones by plugging them into the mic hole.

New law
Section 814 of the recently passed USAPatriot Bill now deems illegal any activity involving "a computer outside the United States that is used in a manner that affects interstate commerce or communication of the United States."

This means two foreign nationals living in other countries can be prosecuted under U.S. laws if any computer communication, including emails, passes through a U.S. router. Since 50% of the world's computer traffic passes through the U.S. this expands the governments authority over innocent civilians worldwide.
