It was not the Trilogy, really, but it was a good film. I, too, pictured Legolas much like he is in the film. Almost all of the characters were acceptable to me. Was Readers Digest directing the movie?” 1:56:13 PM 12/24/01 Just kicked all forms of As*.....!!!! “What a great movie......That is all I have to say......” 6:21:43 AM 12/27/01 12:47:03 PM 12/27/01 “Did you hear about the people who are using them for wedding rings? Freaky.” 12:48:33 PM 12/27/01 “Don't laugh at life imitating the movies. If it wasn't for Maxwell Smart, we wouldn't have shoe bombs or sole phones.” 12:50:39 PM 12/27/01 “Ya just gotta feel sorry for a guy that tried to give himself a hotfoot and botched it.” 12:51:58 PM 12/27/01 “That hotfoot routine Was pretty funny. Using replicas of the One Ring in a wedding ceremony is just Way Too Creepy.” 12:57:16 PM 12/27/01 “Way cool Tilt......I may just get that.... Thank you for the info.... Mike” 4:47:17 PM 12/27/01 “Just got back from seeing the movie. I really enjoyed it. The characters (good and bad) were much like I imagined them. Great scenery and effects.” 10:04:34 PM 12/27/01 “I have read all the books and it was just like the book...Just a great movie.....:) I will see it again....” 10:21:47 PM 12/27/01 “my son and i saw it on christmas day....i found it really delightful......but my son was totally freaked when the credits started rolling.....groaning "they didnt finish the story!"...he wanted more!....we would have been there 12 hours for the whole trilogy!.......:) i will definitely see this one again.” 7:48:51 AM 12/28/01 “Yup! Saw it last night (and I plan on seeing it at least once more, maybe twice). The scale was mindboggling. The Great Hall in Moria was even Larger than I imagined it. I think the second film should be FOUR hours or FIVE, LOL After the Balrog, what will SAURON be like? oooooooooooooooooooooooooh... "Fly, you fools," he said, and was gone.” 7:58:40 AM 12/28/01 “sauron was in the beginning, puttin' the SMACKDOWN on 'em!” 8:55:05 AM 12/28/01 “Man they picked the right guy to play Gandolph, didn't they?” 9:04:11 AM 12/28/01 “"the right guy"?!?!? you mean SIR Ian McKellen? yeah, some people think he has some acting skills. LOL!” 9:14:46 AM 12/28/01 “I can't wait until it plays here in town to see it again. Our movie theater still has the full sized screen. That'll be awesome.” 9:17:09 AM 12/28/01 “ooooooh yeah... this guy. I think S. may have updated his look in two thousand years. We shall see, in 2003... Some of those guys remind me of something I read about Basilisks a long time ago... "Recall that their touch splits rock asunder. There is sure to be uncertain footing in their vicinity."” 9:26:58 AM 12/28/01 9:36:24 AM 12/28/01 “That's what I want to see full-screen.” 9:40:50 AM 12/28/01 “Funny, I haven't seen it yet, but loved the books, and saw the trailers last spring, so I can't wait. The lunch talk seems to be "love it" or "hate it". The non backpacker/outdoors types hate it and the backpacker/outdoor types love it.” 9:44:12 AM 12/28/01 “I live in a podunk, tho, so it's going to be awhile before it gets to the 'big screen'.” 9:46:20 AM 12/28/01 “next time, i'm going to see it on a small screen... in a theater that server beer.” 10:12:02 AM 12/28/01 “Can you imagine how hard it will be to get it when it comes out on DVD? And you know they're going to wait and release them all as a boxed set.” 10:14:50 AM 12/28/01 10:39:25 AM 12/28/01 “'Creative Differences' = turned out to be a complete #&%!$ that no one could stand” 10:45:52 AM 12/28/01 “Ok, after watching FOTR last weekend I made the mistake of telling the boys about it on the ride home (they had chosen to go to a make-out movie with their girlfriends instead). It instigated an ongoing argument about the importance of the Tom Bombadill incidence and it's relevance to the rest of the trilogy. So settle this one for me-an-Sauron. Was it a crucial plot element that they should have left in? Or was it an interesting tangent that they can effectively allude to later on with flashbacks without detracting from the story?” 10:16:03 PM 12/28/01 “I really enjoyed the movie. I went to see it with someone who had never read the Hobbit (yes, it surprised me to know there was anyone on the planet who had not read it). The Hobbit was (IMO) essential to having a better understanding of the movie during the first few minutes.” 10:44:03 PM 12/28/01 “Just saw it with my son. My only complaint? That we have to wait so long to see the next one! Damn fine movie.” 3:24:44 AM 12/29/01 “While I loved the imagery and special effects of the movie I felt that they should have incorporated more of the songs and verses that were in the book. I felt that they were left out in order to put more emphasis on the action sequences. In the books, the singing (especially while traveling) and poetry are a constant and important theme that should not have been minimized to that degree. The movie also lacked some of the smooth rhythm that the book has, alternating between peaceful and reflective times and scary, violent ones. As in life, simple pleasures such as food and friendship become more precious and significant after one has lived through unpleasant situations.” 8:12:46 AM 12/31/01 “kenneth branaugh's "hamlet" was great, but no one wants to sit through a five hour film...” 8:26:33 AM 12/31/01 “Not without a pee bottle!” 8:29:56 AM 12/31/01 “well, there was an intermission, but that wasn't my point.” 8:31:53 AM 12/31/01 “I guess the filmmakers thought Tom Bombadil (and the poems and songs) didn't contribute the flow... ? Serious fans of the story will miss them, but the more casual movie-goers might not. In this way, think it *has* been transformed into more of an Action-Adventure. I think I'll see it again on Tuesday or Wednesday, just to be sure, *G*. (There was a Tom Bombadil question earlier in this thread, also)” 8:32:21 AM 12/31/01 “I havent seen it yet and cant wait. Although, with all the action figures and board games, I cant help feeling that they selling off a special part of my childhood.” 8:36:33 AM 12/31/01 “me and Tarpie saw it yesterday... maybe it was a coincidence, but as soon as the movie came on, i started drifting off to sleep! i couldn't keep my eyes open for the life of me. and talk about LONG! the visuals were awesome, but i kept sort of hoping a little bit that the dark side would win, and put me out of my boredom...” 8:39:03 AM 12/31/01 “now what i REALLY want to see is that movie where one cheerleader goes, "Bring it!" and the other cheerleader goes, "It's already been broughten!" now THAT's a movie for ya! ;-P” 8:42:42 AM 12/31/01 “Wrong rings, mate.” 8:44:51 AM 12/31/01 “and Tarpie was like, "I'm not leaving until I get an ending!!" LOL!! :-)” 8:47:36 AM 12/31/01 “A guy at my work told me if I had read the book, I wouldn't have expected an ending, and he said the Wizard will return... hmmmmmmmmm!” 8:56:29 AM 12/31/01 “tyer so craison!” 9:06:06 AM 12/31/01 “I thought the title of this thread said "No Spoilers" LOL” 9:10:57 AM 12/31/01 “I thought it was 30 minutes to long and blurry and choppy at times during some of the computer generated stuff. Out of 10 I give it a 8.5. Can't wait for the next one either.” 9:21:38 AM 12/31/01 “I saw it a second time yesterday, and loved it even more--I had gotten most of the little quibbles (what did they change? and all that) out of the way the first time. I can't imagine anyone else playing Gandalf. Once again, Ian McKellen was brilliant. (btw, for another incredible performance that is completely different, check out Richard III.) The rest of the cast was excellent, especially Sean Bean, Viggo Mortenson, Elijah Wood, and (surprisingly) Sean Astin. Most importantly, though, they made Middle Earth real and convincing. I didn't mind the excision of Tom Bombadil. I never liked him all that much anyway, and he's really a digression from the main plot. Tilt, my brother works at a newspaper and snagged a promo copy of that poster (the one with the Argonath) for my son for Christmas. What a great present!” 5:42:15 PM 12/31/01 “Tehipite, I agree with you on Tom Bombadil. And that's exactly what I told the boys. If we hadn't been 40 miles from home and if I hadn't been driving....well, I shudder to think. I barely got through it alive as it is. I think that they definitely qualify as serious fans, although I always though I did too.” 10:24:19 PM 1/01/02 “Nope! Nuh-uh! That's the litmus test. If you didn't like Tom Bombadil, you can't be a serious fan, dagnabbit! LOL Remember what his name was in "Bored of the Rings"? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow; Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.” 7:34:51 AM 1/02/02 “What's really funny about that Tilt, that's exactly what the boys told me and they were dead serious when they said it. Teenagers are hilarious sometimes.” 7:40:13 AM 1/02/02 7:40:25 AM 1/02/02 “I'll never look at expedition boots the same way ever again. LOL!” 7:43:46 AM 1/02/02 “No wonder they left him out. He's a bloody gear freak!” 7:43:50 AM 1/02/02
