Tehipite, I think I saw that LARGE Argonath poster for sale at the New Line Cinema site. It's called a 'bus shelter' poster and it's 70 freakin inches tall, *G*.

oh, heeeeeeeere it is (if the link works!).

4 x 6 feet!

Yep! The very first time I saw those boots, I thought of Tom Bombadil, LOL

but now that you mention it...

Old Gear Slut is a merry hermaphrodite;
Blue the jacket is, and the boots yellow, bright.

The movie jammed. The opening 10 minutes of the prologue were amazing and an indicator of things to come. I loved the sweeping arial shots and the wizard battle. Cool stuff and destined to be a classic.

Finally!
Saw it today. What a great rendition of the book. Watching the movie, I was reminded why the story is so popular with backpackers! The Journey Matters!

Robert and I went yesterday. Fantastic. I need to go again. I missed the poetry and I thought they should have told more about the swords--they should have been glowing when the orcs were around.

I saw the film last weekend. I have mixed feelings. I liked the characters of Pippin, Merry, Bilbo, Strider, Boromir, and of course Legolas (though I prejudiced as an archer myself). Some of the best lines from the book were also in there. I have mixed feelings about the characters of Frodo and Samwise. They performed much better then the script was written. The scenery was decent, but overhyped with the exception of the Mines of Moria. However, two things rankled me. Changing Gandalf into what is at best, a cantankerous(sp?) old man, and at worst an aging pothead is pure insult. And, the cgi was cheesy. After how many years you would think somebody could generate more organic textures and movement. The movie was good, but I'm not giving it anything more then three stars Maybe I'm just spoiled from too many years of no television, and plenty of books. Maybe my standards are too high, or not.

swords
Only "Sting" and "Glamdring" would glow when the Orcs are present. They only showed Sting glowing. BUT>>>the movie was GREAT!!! I have waited 27 years to see my visions in real time...and I wasn't disappointed. Everytime I hike or pack, its MiddleEarth that I see. I didn;t realize that there were so many other fans out there that liked to hike and pack. I started making hiking staves (wizards staffs) after read the books during the second age, many, many years ago, and each one is inspired by JRRT. anybody read elvish out there, or am I alone?

OK...a month later, and I finally saw this movie tonight.

I don't get out much. (Unless it is to take the kids to Rugrats in Paris, Pokemon 2000, Harry Potter, etc.)

Anyhow, I really did like this movie despite not having read the books.

I thought the archer was cool, esp. in the last battle scene. What was his name?

Close, it's "Legolas". Wait till the second movie if you want to see some serious shooting. There are some major battles in the book.

Saw it last night.

"YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!" What a scene.

I think Legolas' change of heart kept him from dying dishonorably.

Yes, the Journey Matters!! It's what you do with your time that counts.

Wait a sec...which guy was Legolas? I want to ask without giving away anything....was he the gauy that advocated, at the council meeting, using the ring?

I had asked what the archer's name was. The younger, blond guy.

The younger, blond guy archer was Legolas. The guy that advocated using the ring was Boromir.
