The websites of any govt. organization under the Dept. of Interior are no longer available because of security concerns. This includes the National Park Service. The U.S. Forest Service is uncer the Dept. of Ag, so they still appear to be up and running. Interior paid someone to hack into their system, which was done, and then move finances around. Consequently, the sites are all down until further notice. I deal with the feds a lot in my job. All e-mails, incoming and outgoing are done for now as well.

Actually, it concerns money for indians being stolen via the net. They did the typical knee-jerk reaction and shut it all down.

Actually I heard that they got hacked period and the finances were tampered with regarding Native American accounts. and the tribes got a court order to shut down all the sites.

That's also what I heard. It seems the amounts on some Native American grants were changed.

Right. It was Bureau of Indian Affairs. But I think they paid someone to do the hack job. Kinda sucks tho since it impacts the NPS :(

Call it collateral casualties
They just happen to fall under the Dept. of Interior umbrella. It's a shame they didn't make an exception.

It is common practice to hire security companies to perform ethical hacks but the whole point is to ACCESS the information and NEVER alter it. Access is all they need and what you want to prevent.

Well, could be an ethical hack but that is way beyond the norm to conduct one that way. (At least in my experience.)

a couple of back doors are open to other agencies. DOI in Boise hosts all the weather data gathered from RAWS. That data is critical for backcountry avalanche modelling so access was granted for public safety.

It's all part of the Bush/Florida voting fraud/Enron/John Walker conspiracy.
