Fund-raiser for GOP pleads guilty in case of child pornography
Delgaudio took pictures of a 16-year-old girl

By Allison Klein
Sun Staff baltimoresun.com

A prominent Republican fund-raiser who once said former President Bill Clinton was "a lawbreaker and a terrible example to our nation's young people" pleaded guilty yesterday in Baltimore Circuit Court to production of child pornography.
Richard Anthony Delgaudio, who was sentenced to two years' probation before judgment, admitted to taking lewd photographs of a 16-year-old girl he met in East Baltimore's Patterson Park in 2001. In some of the photos, he was engaged in sex with her, court records show.

Delgaudio, 50, of Burke, Va., is a frequent talk-radio guest and national figure in conservative politics. He is president of the Legal Affairs Council, a group that helped pay the legal bills of former Reagan administration officials Oliver L. North and Caspar W. Weinberger after they were charged in connection with the Iran-contra affair.

In his pornography case, there was additional evidence that Delgaudio took erotic images of at least one other, younger teen-ager, but that evidence was not admissible in court because police improperly stopped and searched Delgaudio, a judge ruled.

Reread the paste Phaed. He got probation, no jail. That's what a good lawyer can do for you. Money talks. The rest of us get shafted for simple stuff, he doesn't even go to jail.

There was a guy here who got busted for swapping kiddie porn on the net by Customs agents --- they locked him up in a federal psych facility for 3 years.

He wasn't Taking the pictures or Performing in them... just Trading them!

Oh, morally, yes I agree. I mostly wanted to point out the ridiculousness of the juxtaposition of kiddie porn laws and age of consent laws. Change one or the other, but let's be consistent, shall we?

There's a website (of course) that lists the ages of consent for all the states of the union, plus many foreign countries. Ageofconsent.com

Phaedrus - the law in Mississippi used to be even stranger, it was 18 for virgins, but 12 for non-virgins.

Take it from me, justice is what you can afford.

How much of a chance would you have given OJ without the "legal dream team". If he had be John Q. Public with no money for lawyers? His appeal process would have been about over by now.

Why not just hypocrisy?
Certainly there are Democrats, Green Party Members and Independents who are also scumbags. Your title sugests that this behavior is typical of all Republicans.

In the future, antime a Democrat is convicted of some egregious act, I will submit a post titled "Typical Democrat XXX".

Pretty broad brush you have there Violin.

Just for the record, I'm not really a Republican, or a Democrat, or anything else. I started my own political party a number of years ago, at the time I called it the "Party of Common Sense". I started this party when I lived in Wash D.C., of all places!

Unfortunately, there are very few members. Sigh.

I don't think it could be called "typical Republican" hypocrisy. I don't see all, or even most, Republicans as guilty of this sort of thing... nor do I think Democrats are immune from this kind of hypocrisy.

I do wonder though if Rush will be hollering about how this guy got off easy because of technicalities... or spending time talking about what a hypocrite he was.

I agre with pedxing. This is not typical. You want to deal with TYPICAL "conservative" hypocrisy?-

Conservative means to be resistant to change. The person who wants tax reform is not conservative. The person who wants to reform the welfare system is not conservative. The person who wants to change the way they contribute to social security is not conservative. The person who wants to reduce the size of government is not conservative. The person who believes in a free-market economy is not conservative. They are a bunch of hypocrites, those people with such views who call themselves “conservative.”

Ever since the NH 2000 primary (I was living in NH at the time) I haven't trusted the guy at all... Forbes was the only one who seemed slimier. I think he tanked in NH because people got a really good look at him. I'm not surprised that the guy is a phony with a great PR machine, but I am surprised by what seems to be behind the mask (someone far more radical than I thought).

McCain and Keyes seemed like the most sincere, trustworthy guys in the bunch (from either party).

Come 2004, I'll miss having a ring side seat for the start of the presidential race.
