Pravda Interview of Pat BuchananView Messages“This is about a 15 minute read so for once I won't do a cut and paste. This is the Pat Buchanan no one in the Amerikan press will touch. Thank Allah for Pravda! Here's the url. http://english.pravda.ru/main/2001/12/18/23938.html” 7:15:54 PM 12/19/01 “Thanks for not cutting and pasting! Here's your link: Pravda interview If lack of HTML has kept you from doing this before, here's how to make a link that opens in it's own window: Simply copy and paste this: <a href="INSERT URL"target="_blank">INSERT LINK NAME</a> In place of INSERT URL, put in the URL of the website (copy and paste from your browser's address bar). Don't forget the http:// part or it will be assumed to be on the www.thebackpacker.com server. In place of INSERT LINK NAME, choose a name for the link. Interesting read. I take it back. Pat is not a xenophobe: "America is being swamped. We have 35 million Hispanics, and 1.5 million immigrants coming in every year, a third of them illegal aliens, and 90% of them from the Third World. There are 45 million people in our country who do not speak English at home. We face the same Balkanization that pulled the Soviet Union apart. By 2050, a majority of Americans will trace their ancestry to Asia, Africa and Latin America, not Europe. America will be, predominantly, a Third World country. While these are hard-working good people, they will not preserve the Western heritage, history, heroes, literature, faith or culture. All the subject peoples from the Western colonial empires, from China to Southeast Asia, from India and Pakistan, to Arabia and Africa, are sending their peoples north to invade the Mother Countries of the West. Invading armies go home, immigrant armies do not. The West is being invaded, peacefully, and occupied. Mexicans and even Mexican-Americans talk of a "Reconquista," the recapture of the lands they lost to America in The Mexican War."” 9:38:01 AM 12/20/01 “Violin, Pat would be a xenophobe if after telling you all this he said we have to do something about it. He didn't. He was just stating a fact. Lamenting the death of Western Civilization is not the same thing as defending to the death Western Civilization.” 10:43:58 PM 12/20/01 “We must have a different understanding of the word. xen·o·phobe n. A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples.” 9:55:26 AM 12/21/01 “Even in the blinding glare of Pats own words you still fail to see him as a xenophobe.Perhaps you need to go back to the link I posted a while back and do some reviewing... You SH have some mighty thick blinders on. You are making this far too easy.” 11:04:19 AM 12/21/01 “SPANK!” 11:27:24 AM 12/21/01 “there went that last shred of dignity.” 11:29:40 AM 12/21/01 “When a problem comes around You must whip it When SH comes to town You must whip him” 11:29:40 AM 12/21/01 “Violin, Carefully read the Buchanan quote you posted. I do not detect any fear in his words. He is clearly stating what is happening in this country, no more, no less. In this case it’s my opinion that you're projecting into his words what you think you know about Buchanan. Now is Buchanan truly a xenophobe? I personally don't think he is. I'm pretty sure he's an isolationist. I do believe he thinks there are some things in Western Civilization worth holding unto. If you read the whole article I think you can get a sense of this. My take on Buchanan is that he might not like what is happening regarding immigration in the US, but he has determined that there is probably not much we could or should do about it. I for one think this country could benefit from a slow move towards Second World country status. Maybe then we could stop meddling in the affairs of everyone and come down off our high horse. The sooner we do this the better off the whole world will be. Everyone, friend and foe alike, dislikes a bullying superpower. To even go further I can see the benefits that would come from the peaceful dissolution of the Republic. Mexico by osmosis would rightfully absorb Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, and most of Texas. Read your history. We outright stole it from them. The Hawaiians would be able to get back what was stolen from them also. Alaskans would want to go their own way. They might even drill in the ANWR. Maybe a breakaway ecotopian republic consisting of Northern California, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington would form. I wouldn’t mind living in a place where bicycles and horses were the primary modes of transportation and wind power ran the beer cooler. And those aren’t the only places that might benefit from a breakup. Believe me when I tell you there are many in the South who to this day desire something akin to the geographic equivalent of the old Confederacy. Now before you go accusing me of wanting to bring back slavery or Jim Crowe, don’t. That’s not why the old Confederacy was formed and it won’t be the basis of the new one. (But for right now let’s save that argument for another thread.) These New Confederacy types aren’t all Bubbas running around in white sheets either. There is a lot of old time Jeffersonian anti-Federalist sentiment in the South. We’ve been on the receiving end of superpower bullying and Reconstruction (like what is happening in Afghanistan right now). We know what the Feds will do to you if you buck them. But we also know what happened to the Soviet Union. We can wait. The thing is we might not have to wait too much longer. Some of that division is happening right now. Sectionalism is alive and well in the USA. You can certainly see this in regional ecological policies and politics. It’s also true of foreign policy and economics. People all over the country may sympathize with New Yorkers and Washingtonians as individuals because of 911, but at the same time many out in the hinterlands of the Republic are suffering because of the policies of both locations. Large swatches of this country are basically nothing more than economic colonies of Wall Street. Average middle class citizens have become wage slaves to corporation men who only care about what the last quarter's numbers were. These men owe their allegiance to the Wall Street oligarchy and the controlling interest shareholders. Americans were willing to look the other way during the 90s because they thought they were making 401k “fortunes” right along with the “Big Boys”. But it’s 2001 and things have changed. And that brings us back to Buchanan. Now I’ll admit that Buchanan is not electable. BUT the issues he talks about today and was talking about eight, ten, and twelve years ago will be issues the Democrats, the Greens, the Reforms etc. will use against the Bush administration in the next elections. Those issues (NAFTA, GATT, WTO, IMF, etc.) will resonate extremely well with Average Joe American if the economy keeps trending downward. Therefore when you see me post a “Vote Buchanan in the next election”, know that SH may not be telling you to vote for the man, but to vote for policies you may want reflected in your national government.” 12:35:26 PM 12/21/01 “marvin?” 12:41:59 PM 12/21/01 “It is impossible to awaken someone who is pretending to be asleep. - Navajo proverb” 12:54:52 PM 12/21/01 “SH said " I do not detect any fear in his words. " Pat said "...are sending their peoples north to invade the Mother Countries of the West. Invading armies go home, immigrant armies do not." I agree SH, that's not fear, its fear mongering. What it says is " look out white folks, cause here comes darky!"” 1:02:19 PM 12/21/01 “LOL Birch, "Don't project your thoughts and fears onto Pat Buchanan." Old Sol proverb” 1:11:34 PM 12/21/01 land of change... “America was founded on freedom. To imply that people coming in from other countries threatens American history and heros and such is him being defensive. As people come here from different countries their language, food, and traditions become part of the American way of life. If people put in the hard work to become citizens I support them completely. However do have a problem when politicians make deals to have illegal immigration possible in certain circumstances. In CA a blind eye is turned to illegal immigration because of the aggricultral implications and I think that is wrong. A large hispanic population has developed and their way of life here is much better than in Mexico, but their way of life in CA is bringing down the average which is forcing tax dollars to be used for studies and programs to benefit people that are here illegally in the first place. I do believe that their children will have a better standard of living because of public education... so everything cancels out... enough rambling, back to work” 1:24:33 PM 12/21/01 “SH, I am not projecting anything on ole' Pat. Perhaps hearing Pat's own words may help you out. If claiming that an army is invading your homeland isnt made to instil fear what is the point. If Pats point was to inform I am sure he could have found a less confrontational approach (read that as more effective). I figure he has done a fair job at undercutting his own credibility. You seem to really pick some winners on your list of people to admire. When you tire of Pat perhaps David Duke or maybe Louis Farrakhan. I imagine, no gaurantee that when the Irish first came to New York there was trouble with "those people" wrecking stuff and tainting the true heritage of the US. H@ll they were even Catholics!!! Then when Italians and Bulgarians and h@ll Sol your kin folk moved here they pissed folks off. Claiming that others will ruin America simply because of their nation of birth is sheer gibberish.” 6:10:05 PM 12/21/01 “"Claiming that others will ruin America simply because of their nation of birth is sheer gibberish" Does this include the French and Canadians, not to forget the French/Canadians? LOL! Couldn't help meself!” 9:22:44 AM 12/22/01 “Nigal, We must of course make an exception for the French and Canada...They are in cahoots to destroy us !!!!!!!!LOL” 10:13:12 AM 12/22/01 “Census data stir up white supremacists By Patrick McMahon, USA TODAY SEATTLE — Census data showing increased racial diversity in the USA are providing fuel for white supremacists and outspoken foes of illegal immigration. "THE CENSUS PROVES WE ARE BEING INVADED," says an e-mail alert sent to 8,000 supporters by the American Patrol, run by a Sherman Oaks, Calif., organization that opposes illegal immigration. "This is not a rehearsal. This is the real thing," wrote group leader Glenn Spencer, who says his organization is multiethnic and not a hate group. "The numbers are in, and there is no doubt. If we do not speak out now in the face of this reality, we deserve to be overwhelmed." Similar alerts have been part of e-mails, Web pages and news summaries circulated by other groups after 2000 Census figures showed a surge in Hispanics and other minority groups. "I have no doubt that the 2000 Census will light up the right," says Mark Potok, spokesman for the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors such groups from its base in Montgomery, Ala. The number of Hispanics grew almost 60% since 1990 to 35.3 million. Non-Hispanic whites' share of the population dropped to 69% from 76% in 1990. Minorities accounted for almost 80% of the increase in U.S. population. Many white supremacist groups have long decried growing multiculturalism, and they have seized on Census reports to support their contention that minorities are flooding the nation. Matt Hale, head of the white supremacist World Church of the Creator, based in East Peoria, Ill., e-mailed a news report of Census findings to supporters with a subject line, "Brown Invaders Proliferate." "It doesn't take a rocket scientist to extrapolate the final result of the demographic changes that have taken place just in the 1990s — the white race in the United States is facing extinction," says World Church activist John Bash of New York City, who said the message went to about 3,000 supporters. Watchdog organizations said they aren't surprised by the reactions of white supremacist groups. "The Census fits perfectly into their world view, and they have latched onto it as proof," says Devin Burghart, head of the anti-bigotry project of the Center for New Community, a faith-based group in Chicago. "The United States is becoming a truly multicultural, multiethnic, pluralistic democracy. It's something we should cherish. It benefits us all." Spencer of American Patrol says, "I don't think America really knows what it is up against in coping with illegal immigration. It will unfold as the greatest challenge to our integrity as a nation since the Civil War." His group seeks tighter immigration controls. He is urging supporters to demand that President Bush "close the border and deport all illegal aliens."” 5:36:13 PM 1/22/02 “Xenophobe/racism-is a natural human behavior that exists in all cultures not just american. Mexico has a tight southern border. When people from central america try to sneak in they send them to jail. Japan doesnt allow immigration-even if u are married to a japanese you cannot get citizenship. Australia doesnt want immigrants and is very tight. A lot of people hyphenate their americanism. What pb is saying isnt racist its just that whether u want to beleive it or not america has its own culture. These traditions/values may be lost thru assimilation of multi culturalism. Would it be a shame if the french culture which includes great cuisine was diluted by americans who invaded with Mcdonalds?Yes. What about if americans immigrated to india in large numbers with mcdonalds/rambo commercialism and diluted indian cuisine and culture?Would that be a shame?I think so.Would it be racist to reject american immigration to france or india based on its threat to these cultures?Yes.Would it be wrong?... America has a lot of cultural ghettos in its cities. This is our balkanization perhaps and maybe future yugoslavia.Maybe not. My concern with immigration is over population. The US population is exploding-affordable housing in the cities is a joke and cities are moving further into the country.Birth control needs to be implemented in third world/developing countries. We cant be a catch basin for this pop. explosion.” 1:39:54 AM 1/23/02 “If you think about it American citzenship should have value..Letting the multitudes in just because they will end up voting for your party ends up diluting the capital and resources that we as Americans have built. I don't oppose immigration, it is something that needs to be controlled, in that we need to be selective about who we let in...It's common frickin sense..do some background..keep out the riff raff, and let in those who have proven to be contributers(I'm not talking about wealth) It's really sad what is happening. Look at life in Mexico and imagine Ca, Tx Az, & Nm the same way...screw that” 1:59:52 AM 1/23/02 Hey, Solitary “Solitary Hiker, I like what appears to be your attempt at trying to create rational dialog. Unfortunately, there are those who emote instead of think. It appears as if you were just trying to stimulate thought on some difficult issues. I have not got the impression that you have been defending Buchanan nor agreeing with all of his ideas, merely trying to open your mind to differing viewpoints. Too bad some folks use rhetoric to turn it into a "racist" debate. It appears that closed mindedness is alive and well. Or have I missed your point entirely?” 5:46:17 AM 1/23/02 “I don't think there is a pure "American" culture. It seems to have been evolving over the years as this country has assimilated an ever growing diversity of the world's peoples. The most recent ethnic groups to arrive are in varying shades of brown......OK by me. I never heard of pita bread 30 years ago or cous cous. How about Jerk Chicken or Goat Rota? Yummy! New Confederacy??? 11:07:36 AM 1/23/02 Pat's favorite joke... “Q: What do you do if you see an immigrant staggering around your yard? A: Shoot 'em again!” 11:12:14 AM 1/23/02 “Meany!” 11:53:08 AM 1/23/02 “Arclite, I think you are getting my drift. I bet not even one quarter of the TTers who made comments (judgements) even read the article. And they talk about me having blinders on! What a joke. In the Pravda article Buchanan is talking about world trends and why the Russians are our cultural brothers. He is telling them that they should look to the West and not to the East for cultural survival. What I think is interesting is that not many of the readers seems to pick up on the point that you have to go to Pravda to even get this sort of story. So much for a free press in this country, at least one that would shed a positive light on Judeao-Christian Western culture. My take on Buchanan is that he is not a racist. Anyone who had read his book "Right From the Beginning" would quickly know that. I think Buchanan is looking at national trends and predicting where they will lead if we do not take control of unregulated immigration into the US. While this country may have been able to absorb the poor, countryless masses during the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries IMO that's no longer the case. I don't know why we can't as a nation decide that the place is full up and shut the doors. There is nothing racist about this. Face it, the USA is running out of resources and space. Anyone who thinks differently has their head in the sand. As far a Tom's comment that there could never be a new Confederacy, well all I can say is that if this country continues down the path of cultural Balkanization there could very well be a new Confederacy as well as a couple of other autonomous regions in the USA. Fifteen years ago people would have laughed in your face if you had predicted the breakup of the Soviet Union. Are people that forgetful and foolish as to venture forth with an "It could never happen," after what we have seen transpire in the last decade? Apparently so.” 12:01:24 PM 1/23/02 “I can’t speak for anyone else but I read the article. Did you? Pat is not arguing that we are full up and can’t absorb more people. He is arguing that we are allowing the wrong kind of people in. He says the west is dying because European people are not producing enough children. Unregulated immigration to the US? Do you have any idea how hard it is to come here now? The US is still one of the least densely populated counties in the world. Perhaps it is too crowded but so is the world. We can’t just isolate ourselves and let the rest of the world go to hell. If Sept. 11th didn’t illustrate that, I don’t know what would. I clearly remember his 1992 ‘cultural war’ speech. He isn’t seeking to keep us united but to divide and conquer. You didn’t have to go to Pravda for this. Pat was eagerly hawking his book on all the networks and spouted the same crap freely here.” 12:30:42 PM 1/23/02 “I would be interested in asking you some questions about your post, Violin: “He is arguing that we are allowing the wrong kind of people in. He says the west is dying because European people are not producing enough children.” Yep, that’s what he’s saying. Why does that bother you so much? It is much the same argument that other countries use against the US concerning its “imperialism.” The homogenization of culture is something that concerns many people worldwide. Are you saying that nobody has the right to prefer “Western Civilization?” Are the French racists for wanting to preserve their culture? “Do you have any idea how hard it is to come here now? “ Apparently not hard enough, Violin. Are you aware of the problems with illegal Mexican immigration? Are you aware of the historical problems associated with so called temporary “guest workers”, and their influence on the host country, both economic and cultural? “We can’t just isolate ourselves and let the rest of the world go to hell” While no country can afford to be isolationist in this world, I for one don’t own a white horse with enough stamina to save the world. Nor do I expect my government to assume that responsibility. Good luck! Are you going to join the Peace Corp, or just donate the majority of your salary to helping others? Before you go telling anyone how he or she should help, you ought to be doing as much as you can. “I clearly remember his 1992 ‘cultural war’ speech. He isn’t seeking to keep us united but to divide and conquer.” Does this mean that when someone expresses an opinion with which you disagree, you disregard every idea that they express? Was George McGovern a racist who had no good ideas? How about Muhammad Ali? Al Sharpton? Remember the Tawana Brawley speech? Is nobody capable of changing opinions, or are we all just stuck in our own dogma?” 2:13:47 PM 1/23/02 “You sure do love to argue don’t you arclite? Yep, that’s what he’s saying. It bothers me because it assumes that America is supposed to be white and Christian. I think that is morally wrong. I have ancestors who fought in the American Revolution. When I hear 2nd and 3rd generation Americans arguing that we should slam the door now that they got in, I wish my ancestors had admitted more tolerant types. It’s fine to prefer the status quo but to deny opportunity to others due to poor timing is wrong. French racists? – you bet! Apparently not hard enough, Violin. Are you aware of the problems with illegal Mexican immigration? Are you aware of the historical problems associated with so called temporary “guest workers”, and their influence on the host country, both economic and cultural?< /i> Umm... illegal immigration is... illegal. I think he was discussing immigration policy not enforcement of existing laws. However, I have been to some very poor areas of Mexico and can sympathize with someone hoping to make a better life elsewhere. We obviously can’t take everyone in – better to help them develop their own economy – Oh wait, Pat’s opposed to that too! While no country can afford to be isolationist in this world, I for one don’t own a white horse with enough stamina to save the world. Nor do I expect my government to assume that responsibility. Good luck! Are you going to join the Peace Corp, or just donate the majority of your salary to helping others? Before you go telling anyone how he or she should help, you ought to be doing as much as you can. So I can’t express my opinion regarding national policy unless I take a vow of poverty. My, how enlightened! By the way, you have no idea how much I do for others. Does this mean that when someone expresses an opinion with which you disagree, you disregard every idea that they express? Was George McGovern a racist who had no good ideas? How about Muhammad Ali? Al Sharpton? Remember the Tawana Brawley speech? Is nobody capable of changing opinions, or are we all just stuck in our own dogma?" I don’t disagree with everything he says – just a lot of it. I believe I can learn from anyone. Pat’s no idiot, just dangerous.” 2:51:00 PM 1/23/02 “Jerry Lewis for president? Why not? I loved The Nutty Profession, didn't you? And we all know how Francophile Pat Buchanan feels about Jerry Lewis! We'd be rolling in the aisle, what with all the pratfalls in the West Wing!!” 3:05:57 PM 1/23/02 “Sorry about the open HTML tag. Regarding "Is nobody capable of changing opinions, or are we all just stuck in our own dogma?": When I saw Pat on CNN last month he said he was still proud of that speech.” 3:10:04 PM 1/23/02 In my Sociology class “in the early 90s, I learned that since there were more Americans 55+ than there were teenagers, our country would soon face a mondo labor shortage. This phenomenon resulted in business and industry accomodating the influx of Chicanos (legally or otherwise). When I saw my first Mexican, I poked him with a stick. I thought it was kewl! "Wow! A Mexican!" Now you can't toss a taco without hitting one! LOL! 12.7% of our nations population, they are (Latinos). And growing fast... their population doubled in the 90s. Am I concerned? Nah... There's plenty'o room for us all. Example: The suburban ATL county where my daughter lives has a population equal to WYOMING! 1/2 million...” 3:58:00 PM 1/23/02 “Violin, Don't worry, I read the article. And while Pat may think we're not letting enough white Christian Europeans into the country I clearly state that IMO we ought to close the doors and lock everyone out. This place is crowded enough now. If that is racist and it upsets you, then so be it. I really don't care. Furthermore, Like Pat I'm an isolationist and I make no apologies about it. Myself along with plenty of other Americans are sick and tired of seeing this country sucked in foreign entanglements. Read your history. George Washington felt the same way. Therefore don't patronize us with the "We can't just stand by and let the whole world go to Hell" hand wringing crap. Of course we can. And I might add that the whole whole world would probably be better off if we would quit meddling in their business. Most of the time the Americans don't solve problems, they create them.” 5:58:59 PM 1/23/02 “"We can't just stand by and let the whole world go to Hell" hand wringing crap" It's not hand wringing, it's partly self-interest. People who are so poor and have no hope see us as a scapegoat and seek to kill us. Also, I think we can't abdicate our moral responsibility to others, regardless of national boundaries.” 6:06:25 PM 1/23/02 It's Alive! “Sorry to run out on ya, violin. I got busy and was never able to get back online. That’s an emphatic BOY HOWDY, YOU BETCHA, violin. Whether you call it argument, discussion, or discourse, I do love it so. I find it to be one of life’s great pleasures. I have an insatiable curiosity. I love to learn. I want to understand why I react emotionally to many things. I enjoy the search for ethical knowledge. Remember the expression “Question Authority”? I question everything, especially many of our most cherished beliefs. If I can engage people like you, pedxing, chili, solitary hiker, or naviguesser (or any number of folks here) in a discussion of ideas, then I’m like a kid in a candy store. I will argue ideas relentlessly. But how can I tell if my ideas are based on truth or BS? It is difficult to do so in a vacuum. Sometimes I will present an argument and, through discourse, discover that I am on the right track in my thinking. Sometimes I find, through logical refutation, that my ideas are BS. Many times discussion leads me to research. Research furthers my knowledge. Since I do not want the fear of being able to admit my mistakes, whether my ideas are proven to be right or wrong does not bother me. It is the search for truth and understanding which fascinates me. If we ever go hiking, don’t be surprised if I don’t talk much in the woods. I’m usually on sensory overload and am too fascinated by my surroundings to say much. Now let’s have some fun. You don’t mind if I ask you some more questions do you? Let’s see where we can go with this discourse.” 5:31:53 AM 1/24/02 “Riddle me this arclite: Just how many cups of espresso do you have before 5:30 EST? Sure we can go further than this, but my experience has been that people rarely change their minds or even concede points on these threads. I'm sure there is reflection after the fact, but the threads usually run like a fight over the last life preserver on a sinking ship.” 8:39:07 AM 1/24/02 Here we go “Just a few questions, violin. My Scottish ancestors immigrated to this country in 1649. That date probably doesn’t impress my Native American relatives who live on reservations. Immigration always has an effect on the indigenous inhabitants. I appreciate when people discuss some of the negative effects. Do you believe that all effects of immigration are positive? Illegal immigration is not as illegal as you may believe. Are you aware of the Bush plan on amnesty for illegal aliens? I must have missed the part in the article where Pat laid out his ideas for not helping other economies develop. Since you appear to be in favor of the U.S. helping other economies, what steps do you propose? My statements have nothing to do with a vow of poverty. They have everything to do with other people telling me how to spend my money. I have a problem when people tell me that my tax dollars need to be spent to support crusades which have not been clearly defined. I do not care how much you do for others. That is not my business. It is my business to be concerned with how my money is spent and I don’t appreciate others forcing me to spend it. You didn’t answer all of my questions. Do you think that George McGovern, Muhammad Ali, and Al Sharpton are (or were) racists because of their beliefs? You believe that the French are racist. Is it just the French, or would you also include the Japanese, the English, the Italians, the Chinese, and the Germans for wanting to restrict immigration and protect their cultures? I also asked if you were aware of the historical problems associated with so called temporary “guest workers” and their influence on the host country, both economic and cultural? This issue has a direct correlation to legal immigration. What do you find uniquely dangerous about Pat’s ideas?” 8:42:38 AM 1/24/02 “Speaking of Italian immigrants, does Robert DeNiro ever stop? I mean, time and time again, he floors me with his wide-ranging talent! He plays the mobster in Analyze This, the mafia don in Godfather II, the con man in GoodFellas, a hoodlum in Donnie Brasco, the gangster in The Untouchables and the criminal in Casino - sensational ability and versatility is clearly at work here! If he keeps it up, he's going to be the next Edward G. Robinson!” 9:42:13 AM 1/24/02 “Do you believe that all effects of immigration are positive? No, but I think the net effect is. Are you aware of the Bush plan on amnesty for illegal aliens. Yes. When I saw him argue for it on humanitarian grounds, I gained a great deal of respect for him. I must have missed the part in the article where Pat laid out his ideas for not helping other economies develop. Since you appear to be in favor of the U.S. helping other economies, what steps do you propose? Not in that article, but Pat has been a staunch opponent of NAFTA. I generally support free trade as a way of improving the world economy – it is not a zero sum game. But you have no problem telling me what I have to do before I can comment on public policy? Are you opposed to all taxation or just that portion that supports programs that you disagree with? You didn’t answer all of my questions. Do you think that George McGovern, Muhammad Ali, and Al Sharpton are (or were) racists because of their beliefs? You didn’t answer me about your coffee habit either. I don’t know much about McGovern or Ali but Sharpton is most definitely a racist. You believe that the French are racist. Is it just the French, or would you also include the Japanese, the English, the Italians, the Chinese, and the Germans for wanting to restrict immigration and protect their cultures? If you define a racist as someone who believes that the members of other races are not as good as the members of their own and therefore treats them unfairly, then yes, I feel that race based immigration policies are wrong for any country. To go a little further, I believe that a perfect world would have open borders. I also asked if you were aware of the historical problems associated with so called temporary “guest workers” and their influence on the host country, both economic and cultural? This issue has a direct correlation to legal immigration. Cultural impacts are overall positive from my perspective. I think those that fear other cultures are insecure. Economic impacts are real and effect segments of society least able to compete in the economy the most. However, guest workers often perform tasks that more affluent citizens are unwilling to do at an economic price. What do you find uniquely dangerous about Pat’s ideas? I think he is a very bright person whose populist views give some of the more reactionary elements of our society an intellectual underpinning. Some of these people are quite dangerous to American society and democracy. Witness the attempted political assassination of leading Democrats by anthrax.” 10:57:15 AM 1/24/02 “What do you find uniquely dangerous about Pat’s ideas? 'I think he is a very bright person whose populist views give some of the more reactionary elements of our society an intellectual underpinning. Some of these people are quite dangerous to American society and democracy. Witness the attempted political assassination of leading Democrats by anthrax.' Let me get this straight. The more reactionary elements of our society (like myself I guess?) are quite dangerous to American society and democracy. So dangerous in fact that you can easily jump to the conclusion that some of them (us?) are probably responsible for sending anthrax to leading Democrats? Violin, that’s a big stretch even for you. Fact of the matter is that no one knows who sent the letters. Why don’t you just wait until the facts about this crime come out before you start manipulating them?” 11:21:36 AM 1/24/02 “I'm only making reasonable assumptions based upon the targets. Do you have a persecution complex? I never called you racist or reactionary.” 11:32:10 AM 1/24/02 “Anybody see that ginger/carrot cake Martha Stewart made today? Man, that looks good...so does the cake! LOL!” 11:33:04 AM 1/24/02 Hmmmm.... “Oops? Heeheehee.” 11:42:35 AM 1/24/02 “You wouldn't believe it. I went to the bathroom and came back to catch some shadowy figure in camo sneaking away from my computer. I didn't even check the name when I posted.” 11:46:08 AM 1/24/02 I believe you! “Heeheehee!” 11:47:58 AM 1/24/02 “BUSTED PAL! No time to post now. Let me munch on your response for a while.” 12:13:50 PM 1/24/02 “Haha! Violin you bastard! I did the same thing a few years back when I had a little side name of "Mr.Brown".” 12:25:14 PM 1/24/02 “I agree with you about NAFTA, violin. That’s a good proposition in my book. I would also include using U.S. influence with the WTO. I never told you what you HAVE to do violin. I told you what you OUGHT to do to avoid being a hypocrite. When you say, “We can’t just isolate ourselves and let the rest of the world go to hell”, you are either talking about spending tax dollars or that we need to go help these people personally. Where will this money come from? I want to hear concrete plans before I agree to more government spending. I am opposed to taxation that supports programs with which I disagree. I am not a socialist. One solution that I see is to vote for smaller and decentralized government. Small government is much more accountable to the people’s wishes. Decentralized government is much more accountable to the people’s wishes. I agree that Al Sharpton is a racist. And I find it very amusing that all of the rhetoric about racism comes from those who align themselves with the left side of the political spectrum and is directed towards the right. Do you suppose that people who identify with the left have a problem with introspection? I define racism the same as you, violin. It would seem that the vast majority of the world is racist, yes? The countries on the list, which I provided, are all countries with large intrusive governments and extensive social welfare programs. Lunatics will always exist. I believe that opposing viewpoints are what makes democracy strong not dangerous.” 1:04:48 PM 1/24/02 “Not much to argue with there my friend. And yet you still clam up about the coffee. Interesting.” 1:27:18 PM 1/24/02 “What you said was that PB gave intellectual underpinning to reactionary elements in our society. Then you used your broad paintbrush to smear reactionaries with what you would like to be true but have no proof of. Tie that in with your white supremacist cut and paste job and it's fairly easy to see what you're impling.” 1:36:17 PM 1/24/02 “Yep.” 1:50:26 PM 1/24/02
