Can one rent chains “In New England? Me and Belle might just take us a roadtrip up that way, and the Mighty Mighty Tacoma ain't got 4WD. If we get up in the mountains, we'll surely need some traction enhancement.” 2:20:34 PM 12/21/01 Snowshoes, too, I reckon “Guess I can find an outfitter that'll rent those.” 2:39:04 PM 12/21/01 “where in New England are you going?” 2:53:53 PM 12/21/01 “Off the side of a side road???” 3:47:22 PM 12/21/01 “Is this an SM thread? Chain up what? :) Never heard of a place that rents tire chains. I have heard of places that sell them and will refund the money at the end of the season if you don’t use them. 4WD is no good for slick roads. Some 4WD will acutely cause a spin, according to Tom & Ray on car talk, PBS. Stopping and steering are what counts. All cars have brakes one all 4 wheels. 4WD in snow is only useful in deep snow. I have had to chain up all 4 wheels on some winter back roads. Never use 4WD on slick hard roads. Put one of those southern fat bubbas in the back for added traction. Lots of stores rent shoes here. But I am not in New England. Just old Idaho.” 3:53:06 PM 12/21/01 correction “Tom & Ray on car talk, NPR not PBS or PMS either” 3:54:49 PM 12/21/01
