Dayhikes in Middle Tennessee Area

“Since I am new to hiking, I want to do some dayhikes next week. I am going to Radnor Lake and Long Hunter State Park but what I want to know is there any trails in the Bridgestone/Firestone Wilderness Area that would be good for dayhikes. Also I have heard that Edgar Evins State Park has a new 8 mile trail. Has anyone been on it.

Wilderness Area. Thanks about the Tennessee Trail info. I have been on one of their newcomers hike before. This Sunday a group from Tenn Trails are going to the B/F Wilderness area but when I called to talk to some lady about it she basically talked me out of it. She didn't think I could handle it. The trail was rated moderate so I figure I will go by myself sometime next week. The trail she mentioned was about 8 miles long and included Polly Branch Falls.

“The hike leader always screens people some.. and she doesn't know you.. see we have folks who show up for moderate/strenuous hikes.. who do NOT need to be trying them..

So that is why you got the third degree. trust me, there is not a hike in Middle TN that you can't do, Ewker.. pick one that sounds good, and go for it.. you might be a little slower, but so what?.. who says it's a race?”

“Ewker, don't get discouraged. I tend to have a problem with the TTA "pre-screening" potential hikers. I tend to agree with TD, there are not many dayhikes that would be too much for you. Find a group (or individual) who will take time to get you started at your own pace. Don't worry about those who won't take time to assist, rather be glad you aren't stuck out on the trail with them.”
