Sweet!
I've been off work since Nov. 8. I went to pick up my last check Friday and everyone had all their presents spread out from the school principal and teachers and the staff group gift. I got nothing. Just a lousy get well card.

I'm very happy about what I got for my chihuahua. I bought her a "cosy cave bed". The bed has a cover over it so the dog can burrow under it and feel cozy, and chihuahuas love to burrow under blankets. I ordered it over the internet so it won't get here for up to 2 weeks. Capri will be so happy with it.

It turns out pasta machines are still in great demand. I saw 5 of the one I wanted in this store by me, and went back 3 days later for hubby to buy it for me and they were gone. Now they have to locate it for me at another store or I have to wait for it to come in on a back order. I'm glad I didn't have plans of using it to make Christmas dinner.

Shanedoggy got a new backpack and modeled it last night. Bad part was that he got so danged excited that he almost knocked down the tree. I had to let him wear it outside to show his friends.

I got National Parks Monopoly and an REI gift certificate. Birch, Sass sounds like a nice evening with dinner and Monopoly, eh. I'll cook!

National Parks Monopoly, it's a drinking game isn't it? I haven't opened the box yet.

It's silly, but I always wanted a really good expensive chef's knife for years and never bought one for myself, so hubby gave me one as one of my presents. It slices things so easily. Simple things make me happy.

That's not silly lipstick hiker.
A Wustof-Trident chef's set is always on my list. There's something sexy about a quality set of knives.

Currahee, hubby bought me a Henkels knife. They make different qualities of knives. Hubby bought me one of the better ones. If you cook and cut/chop a lot, it really is essential.

The packaging did not say if it ever needed sharpening. I suppose it will, but I think I'll contact the manufacturer before I buy a knife sharpener.

I wanted a min-pro cuissinart that chops and grinds and he got me that too. No more chopping onions. I opened it the day before Christmas so I could use it to chop onions for the huge pot of spaghetti sauce I made.

It's the kind of knife you'll want to have professionally sharpened, but it will hold an edge better and it is a well balanced knife. Henkel & Wustof are comperable in quality. Enjoy it.

Currahee, thanks for the sharpening advice. I remember when I was a kid, a guy used to come around with a truck to different neighborhoods and sharpen things.

I bought hubby a good pedometer that measures calories, steps and miles and keeps time and a jacket that he picked out today on sale at REI.

Well, it's a Kelty Tioga 5300. It's an external frame, and a bit heavy at 6lbs+. Do I hurt my wife's feelings and take it back, she thinks she did so well.http://www.mountainsports.com/mssearch.asp?Option=Detail&Detail=081217

Headlamp is a Princeton tech Aurora, pretty nice http://www.ptsportlights.com/

Tough question. Is she a practical gal? You haven't pissed her off lately, have you? Do you think you'll use it? Can you take her with you and show her the things you look for when making a purchase? All variables to factor into the equation. Good luck, and it really is a good pack in spite of its weight.

I got a Thermarest Prolite 4 with the chair kit and stuff bag. I am waiting on my -5 degree quallofill sleeping bag to arrive. It was supposed to be here on the 24th. The bad weather delayed it, I hope to recieve it tomorrow (Monday). Clothes and other stuff, tools, etc.

Didn't get any gear :(

..but I got lots of moola, so needles to say, I'll be hitting up the REI when I get back from Vermont next week. Daddy needs to get himself a new pair of hiking boots (the old ones leak so bad I can't even step in the smallest puddles anymore) and a white gas stove (yes, alcohol stoves work in the cold, but they take about a hair short of an eternity).

Vee shall see where to go from there...

lipstick---

I have a pretty nice knife sharpener-- it isn't electric, but made by the following manufacturer--there is nothing better than a sharp knife!

http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=77

It's a little pricey, but It really works well-- both for serrated or straight edge knives.....
I bought mine years ago when they first came out with it-- It's easy to use, portable, and well worth the money... :-)

I pretty much use if for all of my good knives....

Fritz, lol. You must've been a very bad boy.

I got National Parks Monopoly
A great Action Packer gear tote
Chicken Soup for the Horse Lovers Soul (from my daughter)
And a light up rock (from my son)
A collection of Gershwin

The funniest gifts are always from my kids. I can see my 20 year old son wandering through the mall now. "What do I get mom, pressure's on. Hey, there's a guy selling salt rocks at a kiosk. Hmm positive ions, reduces stress and insomnia. Everyone should have one of those, yeah. Perfect. Done"

20-year-old son! Dang, I forgot to list the best gift I got which was from my 20-year-old son! I got "the stick." It is a self-massager, a flexible stick with "rollers" that you can use to massage, in particular, leg muscles. Runners swear by these things.
