“I'm sorry, I prolly should not single this place out.. but hey -- may you NEVER have to shop in a 'hiking' store as LAME as this place. It is not a chain. It only exists in Jackson, TN to the best of my knowledge. It is NOT a hiking store. It is a clothing store. Their selection of gear measures less than ten feet, and includes NOTHING other than old and tired stuff from a year or so ago. On the other hand, they have a BOOMING business in TNF/Patagonia/Columbia clothing. I went in today with a $100 worth of gift certificates. Why this place? Because I don't live in Memphis or Nashville so my family and friends didn't get certificates from Blue Ridge Mountain Sports or REI. Hey, I don't fault them. My family and friends are all good people, they just don't realize that JB Myers in Jackson TN is a joke. (have I ranted enough yet?) I walk in, and after looking for a good 30 mins in the store for SOMETHING to buy that I needed, finally one salesperson asked me if I needed any help. Keep in mind they WERE not busy. I just didn't fit the 'mold' of the dayhiker wannabe rich kid. You know my son told me that EVERY private school kid at UTK has a North Face jacket, and not a damn one of them hikes? Geez, all I wanted to do was spend some money. Oh excuse me, you don't have any XXL's? Well hope I get skinny enough someday to actually be able to BUY something in your store one day. yes, I finally bought a Columbia fleece vest, a really nice baclava, some wool socks and a few other things, but my gosh.. do you know what this guy TRIED to sell me? A pair of button-down oxford shirts with the Patagonia name! As John Stosel (sp?) would say, "GIVE ME A BREAK!" Anyways, thank you JB Myers in Jackson Tn for reminding me what a hiking store is NOT. :)” 11:34:17 PM 12/26/01 crack me up “just like Eddie Bower...bull sheet store.” 11:41:37 PM 12/26/01 “Sounds like a nice place - no high pressure for at least 30 minutes. Seeing your certificates they knew that they were not going to make any money. They already took in the cash for the certificates. And they did not recognize you as a repeat customer - you were just there for the redeemtions. Did you inquire about the possibility of exchanging the certificates for some beer (or for some white lightning? You were in TN! Maybe the clerk thought that you would look good dressed up. Well, good luck. I hope you enjoy your new items. Have a great hike this weekend and Happy New Year.” 12:25:27 AM 12/27/01 “TD, I have noticed this place just off of the interstate and was going to stop by after the first of the year. Thanks for saving me the trip.” 9:12:13 AM 12/27/01 “That reminds me of an Eddie Bauer flannel shirt I got for Christmas a few years ago. It was fine if you wanted to sit around looking like a lumberjack, but if you tried to actually split some kindling... there wasn't any material under the arms. I lifted my arms the first time and I thought the armpits were going to tear out, LOL! Fake Junk!” 10:08:20 AM 12/27/01 “That's funny! It sounds just like Philip Galls in Lexington. In the front, a rack of bacpacking books; on this (shortest) side wall, *some* packpacking gear; and crammed into the back corner, some hiking/backpacking/casual footwear. In the rest of the store, 4,000 square feet of the most expensive technical clothing you will never wear.” 10:28:20 AM 12/27/01 “I had considered sending this letter into the local newspaper.. :)” 4:48:49 PM 12/27/01 “I'll bet they advertise heavily in that same paper. "Galls"? LOL!” 7:42:44 PM 12/27/01 “I guess Hiking is becoming a fashion statement.. "look at me, i'm rugged, outdorsy, young and sexy!!" *shudders*” 7:46:39 PM 12/27/01 “"Hi Outdoorsy, I'm Rugged." LOL” 8:57:45 AM 12/28/01
