LOL,.. why are you being so mean to her? I almost fell in love with her when she talked about taking her dad hiking and wanting to spend time with him. Then she gave me thumbs up, (I`m guessing that`s a good thing?)she loves all of the things we do and she came here to play with us crazy folks.

But,... then she said on her bios thread that she is only 22 and she has boyfriend already. I`m crushed! Oh well,.. bash away!LOL

I believe there is another Desolation Wilderness trip being planned for mid-February. Not sure how long of a drive it is for you.

Where are the Trinity Alps? I live near California and don't have a clue where they are. What city or point of reference is near.

The Alps are cool, and I'm looking forward to the Marbles, but first the DW trip in February.

The Lost Coast
I'll be hiking the Lost Coast this weekend, hopefully the weather won't be TOO bad. I'm heading up that way tomorrow afternoon and will be camping near Shelter Cove at Wailaki or Nadelos campground. Setting up the shuttle and hiking in on Saturday.

The Alps are one of my favorite spots too, I do a few trips there each year. The Marbles are also nice.

One of these days--one of these days-I'm afraid if I get that far,
I might just stay on the plane and go on to Hawaii- or Oregon & Washington.

vyxtryx,
A lot of people have been traveling to California for the past three years for Llama Rama. Check out Phil's Photo Page.

And I agree with you 100 percent. California is the place to be.

Best hiking
Death Valley in August.

All seriousness aside, there are many areas besides Desolation, Trinity Alps, and the Lost Coast. The trendy guidebook areas get filled up fast leaving the rest of the state empty. If Desolation is too crowded try Granite Chief or Iceberg. Instead of Trinity Alps try the Marble Mountains. Warner Wilderness instead of Lassen. Channel Islands NP instead of Lost Coast. The list is endless.

Nekkid, I am in real need of this February trip, but can't fully commit just yet. Of course I'll keep ya posted on the details but right now I don't think anything is set firm. Wanderer has suggested the Loon Lake, which can be reached on Ice House road, which is a turnoff from Hwy 50 about 45 minutes closer to your house than our last trip to Tahoe. You would definitly want to bring the 'Bu, and probably chains but wanderer will know better what this road is all about in the winter (apparently a utility road plowed all winter). His thoughts so far have been a base camp option and a snowshoe/camp option. I hope you can go bud! You too WD!

Hey Naked, I'm planning a trip to Yosemite in either August or early September, maybe if your free you can join me there.

The road up to Loon Lake is plowed routinely by SMUD as they have a power station back there they need to access. Bottom line = you'll never be snowed in longer than one day before they open up the road again. There are also x-country trails back there...ski or snowshoe
