I think I'm safe doing this, 'cause Belowzero hasn't taken to TT like I did. Hopefully he won't read this and see what I am trying to plan.

Below, moved back just before Turkey Day and the start of all the holiday frenzy. In between there I had finals, he started in some college refresher type courses, he got a new job, we have both been focusing alot of energy on Newergirl, etc. We are really trying hard to make a go of it and we haven't had any real time together yet. The thread on hiking w/ your partner made me start thinking about organizing something real nice for us to do alone. Do you guys have any ideas? It needs to be very cheap, it can only be an overnight thing, and it doesn't necessarily have to be bping (but he really needs outdoor time). Help me out here.

You'd probably do best to plan a short hike in to a base camp and then day hiking kind of trip. Someplace close so you won't be so stressed about leaving newergirl.

I shoulda been a shrink
First change his name from BELOWZERO to something more positive...like HASPOTENTIAL

Then, take him to see indian ruins. Even people who think the outdoors suck can't argue with the ancient way of living.

Do you ski? If you aren't planning a bp trip, a nice romantic night in a lodge with a stone fireplace comes to my mind. ... and a hot tub after spending a day on the mountain?
Bring some whiskey and toast on the trail to everything good! :D

Oh poop! that ain't cheap...
hmmm.. well, i tried.

if anything go car camping. bring a bottle of wine some food and relax. Bring a deck of cards or a board game. Just go and have a good time.

Uh . . . Tea . . . alcohol is not an option. I would be kind of romantic and cute to have a little picnic though. Le Sub, he is not easy. Obvious is kind of hard for me.

So the subtle one counsels you to consider the obvious....interesting....

(Craig how's the gut, man? Responde S'il vous plait on your original thread...)

newgirl, hiking and backpacking are cheap as long as you stay close to home. I can't help with picking a destination. I'd just say don't try to cover too much ground.

I'll stop by and babysit for newergirl, if you like.

Babysitting is covered thanks to a Christmas gift from my sis, nice of you to offer though. All nice suggestions guys, but a little pricey and there can be no alcohol. Biz, his name is in ref. to his bping in the dead of winter in the MT mtns. He has spent 30 and 40 below nights out in the wilderness.

Good catch, Fritz, LOL.

Seriously, we don't know either of you, so it's hard to suggest.

I think any guy would feel lucky to have your undivided attention for an overnight; I doubt if the circumstances would matter a whole lot...

Fritz - the gut critters are all gone as far as I can tell. I feel like a million bucks, except for the cold I came down with Friday night and suffered thru all this week while on holiday...

Thanks for asking...

BTW, I always wanted to know my cholesterol, but the lab would only tell me the number. Is 121 ok?

Take a chance Noogie, but make it your own.

Darn. I really wanted to babysit.

Craig, I am not a medical professional, and haven't looked it up, but I seem to recall people with 200+ or even 300+ that were told they needed to reduce it. I think under 200 was OK. Someone else jump in and correct me on this...

You should check to make sure your "good cholesterol" is high enough also. Don't ask me what that number should be, though.

newgirl, the Super 8 in Red Lodge usually has some specials going on. Last winter we (wife & 2 daughters) got a suite (big room) for like $39.00/night. Not the most romantic, but time alone, away from newergirl.

Otherwise, you could beg Aero to use his cabin near Cooke City. Then you could do some snowshoeing or maybe even some short hikes in between......

LMAO

Also, look through the Friday edition of the Billings Gazette, Enjoy section. There are always specials at small resorts around MT.

My suggestion was going to be to show up naked and bring beer, but I forgot about the alcohol thing.

Most people have local things that they've always meant to do, but haven't. I'm guessing that the University you go to has a museum of natural history and possibly one on the history of the west. Things like that are usually quite, reflective and are sorta "off the beaten path".

If you're talking overnight I'd recommend hitting a bed and breakfast followed by the above mentioned sort of stuff. I would imagine B&B's are cheap right now since it's not peak tourist season.

SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE-I have not been able to watch a movie all the way through since my girls were born--farm her out and let him sit at home quietly--
Another idea--go sit or camp on a river and fish all nite.
Best thing to do is make HIM feel like the special one.I'm sure he won't admit it but he is the teensiest bit jealous of all the attention.

years ago.. they used to do progressive dinners.. I wonder if some sort of progressive bp trip would work.. where you could count on friends to have meals ready.. or at least a fire.. and make all the mileage easy... maybe do some sort of mock bp trip.. from house to house?

You silly thing, don`t you know, it`s the little things you do
the way you smile and your laughter
are what brought him back to you
the way you express your love and the way you show him you care
he could have just walked away, but he would much rather be there
you`re warm and caring and together you share your daughter`s love
many good things yet to come your way, you`ll add to the list above
just like Santa`s little helpers, you and your tiny little bitty elf
you`ve given him the best present on Earth, you`ve given of yourself
there`s nothing more he needs than your love, there is nothing to plan
you think you have little to offer up, but in truth he is a lucky man
