“I plan on hiking the route or at least parts of it this weekend....never having been there I decided to find the Ranger Station and hike at least to Hobbs and back this Saturday....I am still a definite for this hike...and with new gear, it should be a good chance to do a shakedown of the new Titanium Pot, (1.3 ltr), the new 6X8 tarp, and the new -20 degree bag....not to mention the new pocket rocket...dang....have I totally refitted here? really looking forward to seeing all of you next week!”

“Day 1- Ranger Station to Hobbs Cabin. 8.5 miles. Easy

Day 2- Hobbs down the Connector with a side trip and back to Cator Historic site & back then up the Stage Road to Stage Road Camp. 7.9 miles. Kinda Tough

Day 3- Stage Road Camp back out the South Rim Trail. 6.0 miles. Easy."”

I've already received takeoff clearance from the tower (wife).”

“Great! Yall remember that the first night will be in Hobbs Cabin and with a good fire in the fireplace we will be nice & toasty.

Also, for everyone going, If you got a candle lantern or candles, bring them. The cabin gets pretty dark without them. I'm bringing a candle lantern and several tea candles. Let's light that place up.”

“The weather rears it's ugly head again...snow is predicted through Thursday as far south as me...if the roads are clear enough to reach the ranger station, I intend to hike the trail to Hobbs Cabin wether there is snow or not...and Dude, I have one of the Exponent pack lanterns, the SMALL one...puts out the equivalent of 60 watts...and it comes along as a heat source as much as a light...”

Did you get all that? Well I'm very disappointed. Just have a lot of fun, take lots of pictures, and write great trip reports. That way I'll really wish I had been able to go.”
