Hiking permit
Guys,
Walkindude is right about the permit($10.00 annually)and you can get it at the Golden Pond visitor center or at the North Welcome station and we can pick up the N/s trail there. I would like to meet at the north station trailhead at 9:00AM. Mike I will call you for directions to my house and we can leave from there. My wife will cook us breakfest before we depart and we have an extra bed or two.If anyone else needs accomadations on Thursday night let me know. I live about an hour from the LBL.

Golden Pond Welcome Center/ permits
Guys, we need to meet at Golden Pond and get the permits. I already have one and then we can go to the North Welcome station and
get on the trail there. They have plenty of parking available.
Walkindude, I was thinking that these welcome centers might be open in March anyway we will meet at Golden Pond. See you on the trail.

walking dude
that's the "golden age" passport that your too young for, me too. Golden Eagle's get you into ALL fee areas at no charge and discounts on camping sites. Well worth the $65.00 if you hit the right places during the year.

Getting in LBL is free. The permit for backcountry camping is $10.

Thanks for explaining the difference in the "age" & "Eagle" thing.

N/S Hike / intenerary
Meet Friday At 8:00 AM @ Golden Pond visitor center so everyone that needs a backcountry permit may purchase it then. We then will drive to the North welcome station
and start hiking from there to Sugar Jack springs (13.8 miles).
Saturday- From Sugar Jack springs to Golden Pond trail head.(18.9 miles). Note: Sunday/Monday we can dead head back,or we can have a couple of vehicles parked at the South welcome center and let that be where we end the journey at.let me know what you all think.

I'm trying to remember, Is Ironton Road #140 (South of Sugar Jack) a paved road? If it is, I could just meet yall there as you come through.
Do any of yall going have one of those FRS radios? That would make it easy for me to find yall Saturday morning.

holy miles Batman
Gypsie, while I pride myself on not being out of shape, I don't think I can hike near 14 miles on the first day, when I'm freshest, and then near 20 on the second day. I am not that kind of hiker that I can walk for that distance nor length of time, regardless of the terrain, its just a matter of endurance and strength, not will. At most, I am probably good at 7-9 miles. If what you are trying to accomplish and the rest of the group is with you on this, then, unfortunately, I will not be able to accompany you, bummer. I was really looking forward to it, maybe I'll show up there and hike what I can with you all for a day and then camp with ya'll and then hike back on the trail to my car. That, I wouldn;t mind to do. I'd like to continue to meet more TT'ers.

I would be ending at Golden Pond if I can figure out how to do this hike and not die on the trail.

easy hike
walkindude, maybe its an easy hike, but still. to do more milage on the second day is asking alot of this ole body of mine, we'll see. the only thing is that if I fall behind and hike at my own pace, I won't have a way back to my car at the north visitor center. I'll have to see, and work out plan B. I'm not interested in punishing myself, just enjoyment.

Why don't you leave your car at Golden Pond and just walk to it?

If I can make it, my truck will be at the boat ramp at Sugar Bay on Ironton Rd. That's where I'll catch yall at.

???
Is this a 4 day hike? I'm terribly confused...sorry. I realize that the terrain is not difficult. It just the knees. I might scale back and do sat and sun and tag rides with Walkindude. and hang with you all on those 2 days, if possible, if not, then we'll get together for a short bit. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone too. Gypsie, can we talk off line? you can email me at marclherring@hotmail.com
Thanks.

hiking
looks like I might do what walkindude is doing, come out sat and sunday. I would have taken friday off, but I can;t take monday also, so if I can;t do it all, I'll have to settle for less.

Walkindude: can you make it out friday night?, we can hook up cars then and camp with the group friday evening then hike all day sat, into sunday and then poof, we're history.
