Different canister for coleman stove?

How can I shrink this?
I have a Kelty Tempest (2900 cu) which I use for day/weekend trips and the only stove I have at the moment is this coleman propane single burner stove.

I've had this stove for a couple of years now and has always worked for me but I have to carry more canisters if its a week long trip.
Sometimes when I pull off the canisters from the valve, there's no way to stop the propane from escaping. What did I do wrong?

I'd like to know if there's something I can do without buying a bigger pack or buying an MSR whisperlite to solve the problem.

Windshield maybe? Where can I get this?

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

I got a tempest too. Pretty cool little pack for short trips.

Never had this problem with my Expedition-check your valve to see if something is causing the cans to stay open-might be trash sticking ins the cans as you remove them.
