My first questionView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 5 of 5 messages posted.
Wow. my very first question.. “Hey again, I am looking for some advice on what to do with a nifty piece of material I found in my house the other day. I found a 4ft8inch x 6ft5inch piece of gore-tex. Now that I think about it, I could probably obtain massive amounts of this material. I was thinking about putting gromets in it and then attaching some ropes and making a shelter half or tent like structure out of it. Any suggestions on how I can go about making this. I'd rather keep what material I have and not ruin by making tons of mistakes with it until I get more material. I'm also a Civil War Reenactor, and I'm used to making shelter out of shelter haves and rubber ponchos. I would like to possible put mosquito netting on this future structure. I appreciate your help with this. Look forward to hearing from you all, SwampRat ymiller@smcm.edu” 9:05:34 PM 12/30/01 “I wouldn't use the gore tex to make a shelter. I thinks it would be better to make some rain pants or lightweight jacket. Maybe a truckload of winter socks. Use it for clothes of some type.” 11:04:57 PM 12/30/01 Sounds good... “Sounds like a good idea. Next question, where can I find a pattern for pants? and can i line the insides with anything to insulate it? Thanks for the help! SwampRat” 11:14:28 PM 12/30/01 “Try the fabric store-Gore tex is usually a layer and is "laminated" between an outer layer of abrasion resistant material and an inner layer. I would not swear to it as I have never made anything form the stuff, but I am pretty sure there is an inside and an outside-that is why it breathes and repels the moisture...” 7:58:46 AM 12/31/01 “So ya into that Civil War reinacting stuff. Ya gonna have to reinforce the edges if ya gonna put grommets into them. Why don't ya line some of ya Civil war outerwear clothing with the Gtex.” 8:36:09 AM 12/31/01
