i got a mummy bag
its a 0 deg. mummy about a foot to long. i found it at costco for $50. its a little heavy, weighing in at 4.8 lbs. i figure i can leave behind some of my more useless stuff. (i.e, prospectors pick. i tested it out in my back yard kept me baking all night long.
Shoulg i have saved up and paid more for a better one?
being that i am 18 and have no job it would of taking me 3 more months to sve up for a more exspensive one that fit better

Since you are young the decision isn't too bad...especially at $50.
Its better than getting a down bag at $300 and realizing it is a piece of garbage. What type of weather are you going to be using it in? What part if the country? I'm sure that for $50 the lining material isn't that water resistant. But in a way this help you learn more about proper tent ventilation and taking care of your bag. As long as you pay attention to those details you should be alright. If you are limited on funds you should search old threads about buying cheap gear. Always keep your eyes out for deals. Many web sites buy up close-outs, blemished gear etc. and sell it at rock bottom prices. Its funny but gear is just like cars...new models, colors etc. come out each year which means last years model will go on sale. Thats when you buy gear. Also look at Ebay and other auction boards. Sometimes Trail Talkers that are hoarding old gear might let some go at a good price. Purchasing gear should be just as fun as planning a trip. Good Luck!

Time will tell-stuff some extra socks in the foot.

Never heard of the brand though.
Some times gear manufacturors will private label stuff to get the mass orders. ie. Camp Trails backpacks are made by eureka I belive. But the packs are great at about 60 % of the price of the branded stuff.

I found backside sleeping bags on a Yahoo search. You will wish you had gotten a smaller size. Less weight, more warmth.

Fifty bucks sounds pretty damn good though.
