Jump to Page |  1 | 2   | 3   |  next >> Not many for me. “I have a grand total of 5. Pretty sad. Went on one overnighter this spring. Then it got to hot in Fl. Went to North Carolina for a planned one week trip in Sept. Got cut short to 3 nights. Then went this weekend. Daz et. Well, on the bright side should be easy to do better next year.” 10:31:53 AM 12/31/01 “Only 9-” 10:36:18 AM 12/31/01 “25 - 30” 10:39:31 AM 12/31/01 “6 or 7 bags nights. Sad year. Family and work too crazy.” 10:43:21 AM 12/31/01 “holy crap. was i supposed to be keeping track?” 10:45:29 AM 12/31/01 “I think you've got it Rad. If you can keep count, its not enough!” 11:00:45 AM 12/31/01 “11 - Not enough. :(” 11:02:51 AM 12/31/01 “Maybe we should set up a Trailtalk Mileage Challenge. See how many of us can "walk across the country" in one year.” 11:10:43 AM 12/31/01 “Good idea. I know I'll be off to a good start the 2nd weekend in January. 60+ miles!” 11:19:25 AM 12/31/01 “dayhikers would kill on that.” 11:23:17 AM 12/31/01 “Okay, according to my road atlas, it's a little less than 2,500 miles from Los Angeles to Savannah, GA. And it's about 1,000 miles from Windsor, ONT to New Orleans, LA. So, you'd have to average 7.5 miles per day to make the East-West club and 3 miles per day to make the North-South club. I, personally, think 1,000 miles is doable.” 11:23:47 AM 12/31/01 “15,,,,,and I planned on twice that many,,,,oh well,,,,,another New Year's Resolution to make” 11:24:17 AM 12/31/01 “40 this year.” 11:25:29 AM 12/31/01 “we have a 'walk the country' program, here at work. folks who want to get off the couch can log miles and get prizes. i guess i never considered that backpackers would be interested. hmm....” 11:27:43 AM 12/31/01 “Geez Rad, you could rack up on that deal!” 11:29:02 AM 12/31/01 “18” 11:31:44 AM 12/31/01 “10” 12:10:02 PM 12/31/01 “About 40 or so - didn't seem like nearly enough. A friend of mine in the MATC was keeping track of elevation gain, wonder how he did.” 12:15:24 PM 12/31/01 Get on a treadmill “Get on a treadmill, if all you're interested in is miles. You remind me of the guy I met while coming down from Mount LeConte. He was bragging about all the AT miles that he was going to do that day. I enjoyed informing him that he had taken a wrong turn and was about 3 miles off the AT. I was tempted to not tell him and let him continue in the wrong direction. People intent on miles seldom see anything. Might as well be on a treadmill. 35 away from home. 330 at home. I prefer a bag to a bed.” 12:35:44 PM 12/31/01 “i agree. bag nights are more valuable than miles, imo.” 12:46:23 PM 12/31/01 “17 almost enough to keep me happy.” 1:58:58 PM 12/31/01 “My goal is an weekend two nighter once a month, a day hike every weekend and 1 or 2 multinighters a year.” 2:08:17 PM 12/31/01 “I only got 15 bag nights. Being in the military there was just to much going on in the world. I couldn't take leave and had to do the weekend day hike thing. And being deployed to Saudi Arabia for four months in the spring dont help matters. I'm really hope to get 30 or so in 2002.” 2:10:59 PM 12/31/01 “Maybe I'm CRAZY but backpacking is not supposed to be a competitive sport.” 2:18:54 PM 12/31/01 “Who's competing? I'm doing it for myself. This is like a support group. ;-)” 2:24:12 PM 12/31/01 “i can't believe that i'm going to say this... marvin, you are not crazy.” 2:25:20 PM 12/31/01 “Could you get them to take this jacket off then? It's really hard to type with my mouth.” 2:28:43 PM 12/31/01 “just use your toes, like me.” 2:30:45 PM 12/31/01 “Let's not confuse quantity with quality.” 2:52:12 PM 12/31/01 “It's not a competive kind of thing, more a potential personal challenge. People set out to hike the Appalachian Trail. Some might set out to hike more and see if they could hike a thousand in a year. My long term goal is to hike every mile of trail in Michigan. I don't really have any illusion that I'll ever get there, but I don't care. I just know that the more I hike, the more I get to know my area. Counting miles ain't a crime. BTW, I also collect sunsets, memorable moments and cool places. If I struck you as competitive, I apologize - that's not me.” 3:05:58 PM 12/31/01 “I thought posting miles or bag nights smacked of competition. Don't apologize - tell me to POUND SAND or something.” 3:13:42 PM 12/31/01 “Okay, pound sand, and happy new year.” 3:34:50 PM 12/31/01 “I had 29 bagnights in 2001.” 6:51:02 PM 12/31/01 “I think I barely had half a dozen. Shame on me.” 6:56:25 PM 12/31/01 “Ain't no competition. Just get out every chance ya can and have fun.” 7:00:45 PM 12/31/01 “3 short and 2 long weekends in the San Gorgonio Wilderness plus one week in the Sierras...not enough for my tastes. I think I had one weekend of camping also. Personally I like 3-5 day trips.” 7:02:00 PM 12/31/01 Banner Year “As posted in Backpacker's Get Out More, I had 51 bag nights in 2001!” 7:25:49 PM 12/31/01 “9 I could have sworn there were more?!?! I have done more dayhiking than usual which is good,at least once a month. Next year there will be more or maybe not. Who knows...As long as I can get out periodically I am good to go. I would like to break 25-30 but that wont happen. Too much other stuff goin' on. Reformed I ran over 800 miles two years ago. It was a lot of friggin runnin'! Though with you walk in May you get a big boost in your total.” 7:49:00 PM 12/31/01 “I have 31 for backpacking plus another 10 atleast for duck hunting. I should be in the 40-45 range for 2002.” 8:24:57 PM 12/31/01 “I'm guessin' about 25.... on week-long trips, mostly. It's tough to just 'get out there', on any old weekend. Seems there just isn't enough days in the week.” 8:50:24 PM 12/31/01 “28.5, one night I got scared and hiked out at 4:00 am.” 9:12:38 PM 12/31/01 “Buddha, Passing out in the neighbors shrubery doesn't count :)” 9:39:41 PM 12/31/01 “Hodge! As close as you are to the wilds, I thought for sure you would have more. I'm waiting for Dunk to check in. I'm thinking he matched my effort for the year. Of course, a lot of thanks go out to Sherry, my wife, without her understanding, it wouldn't have been possible. From June to about the end of July, I didn't spend a single weekend in my own bed.” 3:44:01 AM 1/01/02 “I'm sorry to hear that. Perhaps some councilling?” 9:03:09 AM 1/01/02 “Chas - I'm sure that I'll be getting more 'bag nights', when my daughter's a couple of years older. Right now, our schedules seem to fill up pretty quickly, with weekend activities/ commitments, and I'm still the chuaffeur. He He” 1:37:53 PM 1/01/02 “I had 24 this year....And that is just too little for me.....:( I will get over 50 next year....:) Crazy Mike” 7:29:45 PM 1/01/02 “31 nights in a bag for me. 11 were actually backpacking. My son and I had a streak going....we camped at least one night in each month since March. I had to bail out on December when my back went to sh!t on me the day after Xmas. Dude, Henry had 31 nights too!” 11:29:35 AM 1/03/02 “Bag nights aren't competitive. They're a bragging right and if you make sleeping out in the woods a priority, then you should be able to gloat. I can only claim 26 of those nights *hangs head and smiles remembering all those great times. MORE BAG NIGHTS IN 2002!!!” 11:39:13 AM 1/03/02 “70 backpacking days 27 dayhikes I count snowboarding by the season (Nov - whenever) this season so far I've got 12 days in. Last year was only 31 days” 11:53:54 AM 1/03/02 “367 I was sleeping as I crossed the Date Line so I counted that day twice.” 1:23:07 PM 1/03/02
