I'm thinking about training a newbie to pack in beer, and then not give them any to drink. That would be a great trick, if you have any, please share.

The only improvement on that Buddha, will be to train them to hike out for more when the supply runs out.

Having a newbie back in my beer for me. That is a great idea. I never thought about that one. And if he or she would go get more when you run out then you know that you have them trained right. Every one needs there own personal beer b!tch.

Big Coop the Newbie:

"Hey guys - good to finally meet you. I'm Mark, but you know me as Big Coop. Am I on time?"

"Hey, uh, yeah, whatever - welcome, I'm Buddha. You know me as Buddha Bear. Listen - the rest of the group already hit the trail and they each took a case o'beer with them. Mine's in the truck so I guess this last one is yours. If you hit the trail and hike quickly you should reach them in about 30 minutes. I'll catch up in a bit..."

BB - I've had some crazy times lately and so haven't posted much. Switched jobs (again) and have had to devote lots of time to the new one.

Hopefully I'll be around more, soon. My fav time of year is upon us, can't wait for the snow!

One tip for your "trainees" - tell them it's Light beer and maybe they'll pack more.

OK - the question is - what is the most beer you have ever packed into a campsite? My answer - a full 24 can case but I only packed it for a mile.

In your best estimation, Rad.. how many got consumed?.. btwn the three of them?.. not counting the rum, and the brandy, and whatever else they devoured?

newbie
We took a new guy on last year's winter trek. He was so beat after 8 uphill Smokies miles that he conked out after dinner and a couple of hits from his flask. He made the fatal mistake of not taking his liquor to bed so we drank it all. Didn't want the poor guy to have to carry it all day the second day, we were looking out for his well being.

Woo Hoo- left his woobie juice out-

We had a guy take 4 with him once-drank em quick- we had whisky & cuervo- offered to share but he wouldn't come off the porch. He was miserable- we were very, very
happy.

Hey-way back before fleece when I was just a newbie, my buddies talked me into going backpacking-
went to the store with me -helped me pick out gear- (boy scout pack-
40 degree bag with no pad-sterno to cook on and a brand new pair of Rocky hiking boots that weighed about 25 lbs.-
Anyway-
they take me me on an "EASY" 8 miler-started walking at midnite got to camp about 5 am-
anyway- they gaot fire started I pulled off those lead weights and sat by the fire--had a few pulls on a bottle and promptly fell asleep--
anyway- about an hour later I awake to riotous laughter--they had been taking bets on how fast my
two pairs of wool socks would burn off my feet--and my best buddy won.
By the way they drank about half of my hooch too.
