OK. So what is the last count of how many are going? (round off to the nearest million is OK)

Montanapalooza sounds "#&%!$in'". However, it conflicts with the Long Valley Car Camping/Cottonwood Lakes trip.

What is making things interesting is that my siblings may be gathering in Spokane just after Montanapalooza.

Pepperdog throws down the gauntlet! Will Phil take the challenge? If I know James Bond, he will be there with all of his tricks up his sleeve.

Would anyone be available to pick up this Arkansas boy on Sunday the 14th? If I make this trip my flight may get in late Saturday and I could just get a hotel in Billings.

I will assure that you get fetched ferried. If you don't believe me, search post #'s 39, 72, 119, 130, 188, 234, 323, 357, 429, 511, 565, 568, 571 and 598.

This thread is OUTTA CONTROL!
...no, wait - that's me %ob

Ya know, Chief? 'spose I could meander on through Cody. Say the 11th or 12th? Sarabelle will surely be tired of driving by then, and I will need a DD - hehee!

Chewy -
REI's brand socks are ok. Go for the cheaper one's - I have, and with satisfactory results... I'll get you a pair.
Don't listen to the sick minded individual that keeps harping about the bivy.
"Bivy this, bivy that".
The man's sick, I tell ya.
...no, wait - that's me again.

Are we all hiking out on Thursday? I would like to hike out on Friday and fly out on Saturday. We probably have enough people to split up without getting too complicated with how many cars will be able to take people where they need to go on both days.

hey Mike are you excited about this trip? can't really tell from your posts. :)

Aero/Chief: are there any lengthy scree fields to cross on the trail? The reason I ask is that I'm considering wearing just trail shoes for the trip. On my trip to RMNP last fall I know they would have worked just fine.

Aero, we'll mail the food for the WY trip 2-3 weeks before Montanapalooza. Need your addy.

Got our maps, still have to figure out the best route from CA. Suggestions? The bed will be set up so one sleeps and one drives.

Still have to work out a shuttle/ride to the trailhead for our Winds trip.

Snow Nymph, you probably have done this before, I would take the Interstate 15 to SLC and then hop on 80 east. A nice detour is to take SR 89 that parallels 15 in UTAH. I would hit the interstates at night fall since there is not much to see. But 89 is a nice little drive up a valley curtained by some nice looking Mt's. Candy Rock Mt.s. And then once you're in Wy. take the road up thru Jack's Hole and towards and thru Jellystone and east out the Lamar River valley.

Hey everyone! I just got back from Golden, Co so I'm catching up on the thread.

snow nymph, I'll get you my address so you can send whatever you want, as long as it's legal! Same goes for Briar rabbit. I think you wanted to send a stove?

Those of you who are flying into Billings could camp out at our house on the 13th. We're only a mile or so from the airport. I told newgirl we could probably take in dinner and a couple places in downtown Billings Sat. night. I wasn't up for too big of a blow-out since we should head to Red Lodge fairly early Sun a.m. We'll shuttle vehicles and head to the cabin at Cooke City for a little barbeque. The cabin is only 5 miles from the trailhead so we can get going Monday morning with little trouble.

I need to know who's driving so we'll have enough vehicles at the exit (East Rosebud) . We probably need at least 3 at that end. We could survive with fewer on the way over since chief can help haul a few folks over to Cooke City. once we get over there it's pretty easy to get everyone to the trailhead.

gojo - if you are coming the 11th or 12th, I can put you in the camper, no extra charge for the AC or DD. and sarabelle can share the fenced back yard with Lily. LMBO

sb - no scree fields unless you want to side trip through them.

j - not a bear area, at least it didn't used to be.

snow - when will you be arriving, and where will you be going? Unless someone needs a ride that aero and newgy can't provide, you'd be best to meet up in Red Lodge or Cody.

Snow Nymph -
What Briar said about the route. It would be advisable to be out of Idaho before night fall, too (what with CA license plates and all), if you select such a route.
Hehehee!

FYI, Newgirl...
We'll make a HUGE gear pile at the cabin Sunday, and undertake the standard Gear Redundancy Investigation (GRI - I'm sure you've heard of it). Bring every thing you think you'll need. We'll help you (and each other) get rid of what you won't need.

Hey newgirl- I can still help with picking up a few at the airport on Sat. I should try to meet you guys up there anyway. Just as long as we can get everyone to Red Lodge on Sunday!

Here's another shot at the, I hate to say it, schedule:

7/13- Sat.- fly in, drive in, etc. to Billings (or Cody), stay at Aero's or Chief's or camp out in a FS campground.

7/14- Sun.- meet in Red Lodge at 9:00 am, shuttle rigs, head to Cooke City. Barbeque at the cabin.

7/15- Mon.- Hit the TRAIL at Chief Joseph trailhead- 5 miles from cabin

Mon-Fri Back pack 'till ya puke!

7/19- fri.- Exit trail at E. Rosebud. Pick up vehicles. Either stay in Cooke City or head back to billings.

7/20- Sat.- Billings (could drive in from cooke city) early enough for people's return flights.

I'll post this again next week!
