Whooops! See the newbie already makes a mistake. I thought that 2 lbs. was how much it weighed total. I guess I better go check out the "Weighing Gear" thread and find out how to find out how much it weighs total. It seems like it packed up pretty small. Couldn't I just buy a compress sack for it and squish it smaller, if it doesn't pack up tight enough? I think I will be warm enough. I'm a Montana chick . . . I can take it. LOL!

Newgirl,
If it squishes small and you're tough, go for it. Also, a nice warm stocking hat or balaclava really helps if your sleeping bag is a little thin.

7-1/2 weeks. I'm repackaging my food to send to Aero tonight, after I go to happy hour . . . and after I upload my pics from last weekend that Costco screwed up 3 times (they kept giving me other people's CDs). They gave me $$ back on the last one since they screwed up so many times.

Beartooth Photos
For those attending Montanapalooza, or even thinking about it, I downloaded a few photos of the Beartooth Range. They're not of the Cooke City/East Rosebud hike but representative of what you'll see. It's fantastic country!

Downloading to Webshots is new to me so I hope it opens for those interested.

Geezr, I see you work at a hospital. How's your CPR? I just went running for the first time in a while. It may be helpful if we have someone with a medical background along. :)

I'm an equip tech in the pulmonary dept @ Deaconess here in Billings. Malinda, my wife, is a respiratory therapist and teaches CPR. We're certified every two years and my card is current, but I'll see if I can get Mailinda to give me a refresher, or two. Does that sound like fun, or what?!?!?!

Try your best to make it Geezr. I think it will be a great time. I've never backpacked out West, but I hear it's great. I want to go to Canada next and get in on one of Hodgeman's trips. I've been to B.C. and it is beautiful.

It was 86 here today and Newergirl and I went for a little walky-poo/practice w/ the new carrier. I got fried. I slathered sunscreen all over her, but didn't bother w/ myself. Now I'm regretting it.

No way Geezr. No offense CMB, but I'll take newgirl. There's nothing to worry about Newgirl. We'll do just fine on the hike. I'm just trying to get in a little better shape because of the altitude.

I got burnt on the arms and shoulders. Started off with light shirt, but it got too hot and I didn't use sunscreen.

The quads are still sore (Telescope Pk hike), and the neck is still stiff (flipped on the board twice Sunday, whiplashed).

Good news..... Mammoth got 9" new snow yesterday!!!

My friend drove to Monana last week and brought a picture back of Nymph Lake. He said he drove up to it, even got the sign in the picture. That isn't the same one we're hiking by, is it???

Nymph Lake
Snow Nymph,
There are NO roads where you'll be!

There is a Nymph Lake approximately 3/4 of a mile west of the trail between Russell
Lake and Ousel lake but this time of year you can't hike to it (snow) and you sure can't drive to it. Not even sure if it can be reached once the snow is gone. It would be a bushwack.

Hi geezr! I just checked out your pics of the Lake Fork to West Fork loop! That's a great trip. A friend and I go on that one for his birthday in August. We haul beer in and sit up on Sundance Pass and watch the sun set (on his youth!)

Good Morning Aero,
Two friends and myself did that as a dayhike last July. We're all "old" and thought it might be a bit of a challenge (19 miles with an altitude gain of 3200" ). It wasn't as bad as we thought, though wouldn't want to have turned around and walked back. :-)

The panoramas from Sundance are some of the best, don't you think?
Geezr

Agreed! That's probably the best scenery you can get to in the shortest amount of time being so close to red Lodge.

BTW, you look vaguely familiar; I might have crossed paths with you somewhere around here. I used to know a bunch of people in the Respiratory Therapy dept. a few years ago. Back in the 80's I had a girlfriend who worked up there. I just ran into Rich L. (I think he's the Dept. Head now??) at Peaks to Prairie in his kayak. I've known him for a few years.

Rich has been gone for nearly two years. Well, not gone from DBC but from Pulmonary. He still runs the EKG Dept.

I thought the same thing when I saw you photo. God, I hope that when we finally meet we don't realize we got in a bar fight years ago! :-)

Another place I love to sit is on top of Hellroaring Plateau where you can look down at Moon and Shelf Lakes and Mt Reargurd is just to the north. In fact, that's where I want my ashes spread when the time comes, though the "friends" I asked to do it say their going to dump me down the outhouse at Parkside and go drink beer the rest of the day. :-)

What would a person do without friends!!!!

I have a CPR card!

CMB -
I don't mean to burst your bubble, but you will definitely be upstaged by the surroundings. I can be as crazy and "unstable" (hehehee!) as the next guy, but there's no way I could possibly compete with the attention that the Bear Tooths will command. Don't you worry about us, we'll be more up tempo than any mortal could encourage...

Chewy's sunburn?
Remember folks, we'll be at high altitudes where UVs have an eccentuated affect - BRING YER SUNSCREEN! That combo bug juice/sunscreen stuff would prolly be the ticket...

I hafta pry myself away from BILLS to get up there - cuz it's, like, 1000 hours away!

YIKES!!
I'm counting about 20 folks going on this trip at this point!! I need to check w/ the FS to see if we need a permit with that many. If we're an "un-organized" group, who all just "happened to show up at the same time, it might not matter, tho. I imagine that there'll be quite a variance in hiking pace among the group so we might be spread out along the trail enough.

We'll probably have to disperse the tents a bit when we set up camp so it dosen't become too much of a tent city. The main thing we have to watch is that we camp no less thna 100 feet from creeks and 200' from lakes.

Aero, I know there has been all sorts of info. on a map for this hike, but can you get me hooked up w/ one. I'm not even sure what I need to be ordering.
newgirl

5/22/02

Sure!! I think we're going to need another vehicle to help shuttle people. We'll need at least 4 at the Alpine end. With chief helping out we could get by with fewer at the Cooke City side. We can shuttle loads up from the cabin, 5 miles to the trailhead, several times with my truck.

Maybe we can get a few folks together in Billings on Sat. the 13th for a trip to Pug's.

Hey, did you happen to go to the Banff Film Festival up at MSUB on May 4 ? I was selling popcorn there. We were trying to have a local TT chapter meeting there but Newgirl couldn't make it.
