Gissmo is a perty good cow dog
Some times he gos in the cow yard and rasses the cows. I DO NOT go in the cow yard cuz my daddy will yell and get crazy.

Any ways Gissmo will "skeer" the cows but they aint reely skeerd cuz Gissmo is leetle and the cows can not even see him walkin aroun in the big grass! BOL!

Once and once a time Big Red sayed "If you walk aroun in the cow yard the nother time I will walk on you and WALK OFF YER HED!" BOL! And Gissmo sayed "OHMAGAWD!" and runned the nother way! BOL!!!

Big Red is perty nise but he dont like no cow dogs messin with his wifes!

Martyb,

I'm experiencing motem trouble so quickly just wanted to say that I'm looking forward to your trip and the chance to meet you.

If the backpacking falls through I'd be glad to do some dayhiking with you.

Off to troubleshoot this motem. If all goes well will talk with everyone later.

Also working the entire holiday weekend.

Sarabelle, that is the best cowdog story I ever heard. Sounds like Gissmo would be a pretty good boyfriend if he'd quit messin' around w/ Chaloopy.

Geezr, trustafarins are kids whose parents are providing mucho moolah for them to go to school (trust fund). School is paid for, they drive a fancy rig, they have an awesome crash pad, they wear fancy clothes, they eat out all the time, they get drunk on Mommy/Daddy money constantly, and they screw off at school and then they complain about how horribly hard it is. They are everywhere at Rocky.

REI
OM,
I don't think there is a REI in Cody! There's a Sierra Trading Post and it's open 12-6 Sundays.

Here in billings we have several large sporting goods stores, Big Bear, Garts, and Sceels and they're open Sunday as well.

Martyb, Another Favor???????
Our next challenge . . . we're going in at the Timberline Lake Trailhead, going left at Trail 8, crossing Siver Run Plateau and coming out at the trailhead adjacent to the Beartooth Hwy. It looks about 14-15 miles and an elevation gain of approximately 3000'. If time allows can you check that with TOPO?

I sure am glad you bought that software!

Jgeils,
Do you need a specific cannister fuel, or just white gas (Coleman fuel)?
Probably most of the hikers here in Billings can provide you with white gas, and I'm sure a fair share of the people driving will have it as well. So, I wouldn't worry if that's what you need. If you need a cannister fuel we can check on the availibility of that and maybe buy it prior to your arrival as well.
geezr

I use the Primus butane-propane mix cannisters.

oops, i meant sierra trading post...glad it is open on sunday....Billings is not on my itinerary, so it will have to be cody, why-OMing~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

jgeils,
is there a specific item we need to look for, or does one primus cannister fit all their models?
geezr
9:31:54 PM
5/26/02

I think they only have 2 sizes of the same fuel. I can't decide if I can get by the entire trip with the small cannister. I think I can, but I've only used this stove for overnight trips so far. I probably need the larger one to be safe. It is the 450 gram.

Hi Geezr,

I'll check out that route for you within the next couple days - we've overrun ourselves with BBQ's, little league games, etc. this weekend! I'm glad I bought the software, too.... BTW, looks like you fixed your modem....

Om,

Let me know if you want higher resolution maps - the ones I posted were not quite the highest quality I can do. I could email you better ones if you'd like - just say the word.

Motem
martyb,

no hurry with the silver run mileage. we're not doing it until july 3rd, and only then if the snow has gone!

i can't take much credit for fixing the motem. all i did was disconnect and re-connect cables, hit a few switches and swear a whole bunch. but, it's working.

enjoy the bbq's and the remainder of your holiday. i'm just getting ready for the bike commute into work. tommorow is the beginning of my holiday!

Thanks for clarifying what you meant by "dehydrating" -
Newgirl is sweating enough for the lot of us... :ob

WOW...Gone For The Week and...
return to like 200 posts. Had to go out of town for school and to take water samples at our Coal Bed Methane Field in Gillette.

Went through Jellystone on Sunday and saw a sow and two cubs (Griz) just outside the East entrance. They came right up to the vehicle. Came out the Northeast entrance through Cooke City. Rained hard the whole time. Couldn't find Aero's cabing though. (Didn't really look either).

If people want to camp out either Friday and/or Saturday, I'm, probably up for it. Might be easier to get some people to Cooke City early. That way there would be less to shuttle on Sunday.

Sweating
Yeah, yeah . . . . what of it? Got a problem w/ sweat, do ya'?

TTers, I drove right by the Beartooths this weekend. They look real, real good. Pray for moisture (not talking about sweat here). We don't want any restrictions.

Another Geezr "Dayhike"
OK, this one is much easier (heh heh). Start at 7627', hike 5.5 miles up to 10601' (I've heard that last foot is a @!$%!), then 8.5 miles down to 6597'. So you get to go up almost 3000', then down 4000'. Bring Advil.

Of course, if you were a real hiker, you'd finish this hike, then wander up the road a bit and do your Sundance Pass hike in reverse.

Some of you already got this via email, but...I am officially out for this trip. It is mainly financial but also, my family vacation has to be rescheduled for that same week.

I am very disappointed, as I have been dreaming about this trip since sometime last fall. I'm sure you will all have a great time, and perhaps I can join some of you next year, for Montanapalooza II. :)

You guys want moist??? We went up the Beartooth Scenic Highway this weekend to the cabin. Lot's of snow on the pass!! It looks a little dry on the Red Lodge side, but the Clark's Fork side looks good all the way to Cooke City.

Here are some pics!!

Just 14 Miles???????
Martyb,
Well if it's JUST 14 miles and ONLY 7000' elevation gain and lose we just might do that!

Not too late for you to come along. I'll pick you up at the airport. We're doing it July 3rd. You can be home to celebrate the 4th. What do you say?????? You bring the Advil. ;-)

Great Photos
Aero,
Just finished looking through your photos. Isn't that a great trip this time of year? In the last photo they're closing the Hwy. Were you forced to come back via the Chief Joseph Hwy?

Naviguesser is right, that girl is gonna be a heart breaker!

Glad you had a good holiday.

She's a little pistol already!

We had to go back down 15 miles to the 212/296 Jct. and go out over Chief Joseph, but that's not a bad trip either.

Pugs
Martyb,

We went to Pugs last Friday to celebrate my birthday. I didn't have the pork chop sandwich but did drink and Alaskan Amber for you. Thanks for working up those trail numbers for me. When you're here in August lunch is on me.

Aero,

Do you think you can swing Sunday brunch @ Pugs? My wife and myself are off and I think we might go down. Newgirl talked about that day as well. If not there's still time to get together.

Heh heh, nice offer, geezr. I think the $$ for the August trip will be quite enough of a donation to UAL for one 2-month period! July 4th weekend 2 yrs ago included a night at the Basin campground as part of our "Macho Manly Men Trip," a side activity during an impromptu family reunion. Me, dad, brother, sister's boyfriend, uncle, 2 nephews, and son on a 2-day motor home extravaganza from Billings to Woodbine to Basin and back to Billings. Actually, campground was unbelievably quiet - no generators, loud talking, music - just downright peaceful. What's gotten into you Montanans?!

I've moved on from Advil - double doses of Alleve now....

geezr,

That's downright kind of you to drink an Alaskan for me. One of my faves - they actually sell it/pour it here, so I get to have it once in a while. I'm in for lunch - woo hoo! Bring pics and stories of Montanapalooza.

Shoulda had the pork chop sandwich, though....
