Newgirl, my bivy weighs 2 lbs. If you decide the tent is too heavy, you can borrow the bivy. It has 2 hoops so its not in your face. I'll bring it just in case. I also have a fleece jacket you can use.

We're leaving after traffic dies down on Friday, and will try to drive straight thru. Unless I can take Friday off. What time are you working the car shuttle? We have to get to Aero's cabin early enough to leave our food for the next trip. Or maybe I can mail the food to you and we'll leave my truck at the start of the hike?

9 more weeks!!!!!

SnowNymph, you are welcome to mail your food to me and we'll make sure to get it to Aero's cabin for you. Thanks for all the generous gear lending! I appreciate it so much.

Also, are you talking about the car shuttle before the trip or the one to pick up fliers? If you are talking about before the trip I think Aero and Chief were going for like 9 or 10 AM on the 14th.

Hey Tex!
Great to know that you're gonna be there! You, me, Om, Jer - whatta reunion! I have missed yer smiling face TREMENDOUSLY! And that looooong, silky, bouncy hair! What a HOTTIE you are! You are my INSPIRATION! I KISS THE GROUND UPON WHICH YOU TREAD!!!

(BTW - I'll give you "eleventy siks hunnerd dollers" for that Snickers headband :o)

Seriously, tho - it will be great to see you. I was happy to see your confirmatory post.

"...nice guy", NewbyGirl?
SUCKERRRRRR!
heheeeee!
Awwww, what the heck...
it was nice to talk to you, too - you are a real cutey pie!
BTW - I recommend you go with the tent. Bivys are nice, but you may prefer the greater comfort factor of the tent.

Om -
So you're driving straight to the trailhead? Don't fret - we'll wait for you, if neccessitary. I'm excited about seeing you, too - and soaking in your warm and fuzzy rays.

I'm reeeeely undecided (so I'm wishy-washy... what about it?) about what to do Saturday night. Partying in Billings would be a hoot. On the other hand, campclimitizing would be kewl, too. Thing is, I will have awreddy done a number of elevatory hikes in ID, and possibly WY, so I, personally, will be acclimitized. Therefore, a night in Billings - which will be the biggest town I would have seen for a few weeks - would be nice. But... upon perusing my map, I realized that the US 212 stretch is something I have been eying for a few years, and I would be anxious to get there. Cooke City is on top of the world, and fliers would benefit from it's elevation.

Briar -
I understand your anxiousness about wanting to hit the hills, and I would be more than willing to be sure you get there Saturday p.m.

I guess I'll just go with the flow.

Chief -
Would a Granite Peak climb be feasable? No biggy if not. I'm not a highpointer, but it would be kewl to look around from up there.

Newgirl, take the bivy! It's sooo nice to look at the stars in the middle of the night.

gojo, I'm leaning toward camping the 13th also. We'll have to see what fits best as time gets closer.

Im not sure about the Granite Peak thing. Aero would probably know better than I. I checked my map and it shows a little used trail, with cairns, but it looks really steep at the end.

If you guys stay at the place between Mermaid and Fossil, there is a great viewing area on the drainage divide. I sent Phil a panorama (5 pics taped together) type phot from up there and asked him to post it on his page. It is pretty cool. If you look real hard, you can see 2 tents where we camped.

I'm still going to work on you guys coming to Cody first, then to Cooke City. You will still get to see Beartooth Pass and the Top-Of-The-World. I might even take you to Clay Butte Lookout where we can look for sea creatures!!! It used to be the bottom of the ocean you know.

Of course theres always dinner and dancing at Cassies Supper Club too. Right Newgy? Used to be a place of ill repute when Buffalo Bill lived here.

Gojo, Navi, Briar, and (possibily) Tex . . . I think the best thing to do is this:

Chief and Gojo meet up ahead of time and decide where you want to camp. I will pick up Navi, Briar, and Tex from the airport in Billings and drive them to Laurel. Chief (and Gojo, if he wants) can meet us in Laurel and take you other 3 to the camp spot. This gives everyone the chance to get used to the top of the world and party and whatever.

The draw back of this plan . . . Newgirl will be ready to party HARD on the night of the 14th for missing out on the camping adventure on the 13th. This could lead to the possibility that I will need to be carried for the first part of the trip the morning of the 15th. LOL! What do yaz' think?

I'm confused about taking the bivy or the tent. I want to be lightweight and I'm not claustrophobic (sp?), but it would be nice to have a little bit 'o room.

Ladies, I have a question for you. Have you ever hiked in a skirt? What do you think of it? One of my girly friends does it all the time and she thinks it's very comfortable. Advisable or not? Aero, will it be too cold for that?
newgirl

Pizza On The Ruuuuun! Please give me some! No, seriously Chief, I have to go back home and get Newergirl situated on the night of the 13th, so I am out of this equation. What do you think of my above suggestion?
newgirl
11:36:03 AM
5/10/02

I'm sure you would look terrific in a skirt. And I'm sure it would be very comfortable. I would be with all that air under there. Just don't fall down!!!!

Personally, I like a tent. More protection, and I'm somewhat claustraphobic. I have to believe that there will be room for you somewhere. Just stay away from "Crazy" people!!!!

Ever buddy is bla bla bla bout walkin in the mountins and sleepin in the mountins. That is not a big ol deel yall.

Chief, I wasn't asking what you thought of me wearing a skirt, that question is for the ladies and has nothing to do w/ looking cute. I was asking what you thought about this suggestion:

Oooooooohhhhhhhh
Yeah, it's whatever everybody wants to do. If nobody is going to come through Cody, I'm leaning towards going up to Fox Creek Friday night. Possibly bring a friend along for company. Maybe party in Cooke City, or just stay at the campground. Then I'll meet up wherever Aero says I'm needed.

I might even be wearing a skirt!!!

Navi, hung as in hung over! Man, miscommunication on the Montanapalooza thread today.

Chief, whatever, I'll just plan on getting those guys from the airport. Where is Aero anyway, what is his plan?
newgirl

Wear a skirt and the guys will be sweep the trail! LOL!

This bivy has a little room. You can lay on your stomach, prop yourself up on your elbows and still have a little head space. That's what I carried before the Warmlite.

So it sounds like Sarabelle's leg is ok now? It'll be fun to meet her.

Thanks for passing on the message from your Daddy Sarabelle. I'm relieved now.

SnowNymph, have you ever hiked in a skirt? I'm just wondering if it is acutally a good idea or not. My girlfriend seems to think that it is very comfortable, more comfy than pants or shorts. I'm just curious.
newgirl
2:19:15 PM
5/10/02

No, never hiked in a skirt.

I use the bathing suit bottoms that are like shorts. They dry quick, and don't have the seams on the sides. I like black, and haven't been able to find another pair.

I also use a pair of climbing shorts that are comfy, but they're cotton, so I don't use them on longer trips where I have to do laundry.
Snow Nymph
2:24:39 PM
5/10/02

That's a pretty good idea too. I'm just wondering what is the most comfy. I have some linen pants and some lycra/cotton yoga pants that are a pretty snug fitting, like bathing suits bottoms would be. What do you think of wearing those?
newgirl
2:32:22 PM
5/10/02

I'm not sure what yoga pants are, but if they're like biking short (without the pad), those are fine too. As long as they don't have too many seams where the hip belt digs in. I don't like belt loops or pockets or overlapping seams. I know, picky picky picky! I go for comfort.
Snow Nymph

Don't forget about the skeeters. A skirt will leave alot open for them.

And don't forget about dogs who like stinky butts. LMAO

We don't got stinky butts!
Snow Nymph
3:04:41 PM

They are like a long biking short with a very low waist and wider bottoms (freedom of movement). Good point about the skeeters, Chief. However, the stinky butts part . . . . We are wonderful smelling women, not stinky butts. LOL!

Whatever happened to that unisex hiking kilt that BP mag reviewed a couple years ago?

I'll be hitting REI soon to enhance my gear - including wardrobe. I'm due.

Don't forget about the most important clothing - socks. Get a couple pair of good ones, Chewy. I might treat you to some Thorlos from REI...
What size? "smallish petitish"?

Tex -
While I'm at REI, what can I get for you? Surely you must need something in exchange for the Snickers headband. $20.00 limit, tho. I'm totally serious - I want that headband!

Whoa! I never "paid" you for the tee shirt. Make that a $30.00 limit...

Man - I go out of town for a week and there are 175 new messages to wade through. And only 10 were from Crazy Mike saying how excited he is about this trip.

My plan of the moment is to fly into Billings sometime in the afternoon of the 13th. No set time right now but hopefully some kind soul will be able to pick me up. For that night camping or crashing or moteling all sound fine to me.

Newgirl - I have a friend who always hikes in a dress - she likes it but I don't get it, myself.

Hey All - At last, it's vacation time !!! And not a moment too soon, since it's my birthday, today. I guess 38 puts me somewhere in the middle, of this bunch.

I'm still planning to arrive somewhere, on the evening of the 13th, but I still haven't looked into drive times, or routes. Any suggestions or estimations. I'm two hours north of Seattle.

This could be the highlight trip, of the season!!!! Can't wait
