Newgirl,

Apparently the other men aren't going to have enough nerve to give you the honest to goodness truth on what you REALLY need.

The weather will be great . . . go with JUST a two-piece!!!!!!!!!

PLEAAAAAAAAAAASE!

Tevas
Martyb,

I've had this pair for years and they weigh 20 oz.

When my son was out he brought a pair that he probably purchased at Shopko, or WallyWorld that I bet don't weigh 8 oz. They look just like my Tevas but not as durable, I'm sure. He left them here and I think I'm going to try them. Just need them for around camp and perhaps a stream crossing, or two.

Thanks for the suggestion Geezr, I'll keep it in mind. LOL!

Important
If its buggy, get a HEADNET!

If its buggy, bring Preparation H and apply after the bug bites, before scratching. It works!

I have the women's Teva's "Pretty Rugged" (I think that's the name). They're a lot lighter than my old ones. I'll weigh them tonight.

Are cheap flip-flops just fine? That's what I got.
newgirl

No, flip flops could be dangerous. You migh turn an ankle crossing a stream in them. I only remember having to cross one stream and it was not major at all. Had another bigger crossing but we hopped rocks. Just use a stick for balance.

Definitely get a head net. I had one but gave it to a kid going in when we were coming out of the Winds a couple years ago.

Flip Flops
Newgirl,
Flip Flops will probably be OK if they're not the type where the strap comes up between your big toe and the next. I think that would make them hard to use with socks on if you want them for around camp. Try them though and see. If it saves you purchasing something you're never going to use again make them do.
Geezr

You can always use someone else's for crossing what few streams there are.

Stargazing Chart
Snow Nymph,

I believe you mentioned that you had a stargazing chart. Can you check? If you do, and you don't mind bringing it, throw it in your gear. If not, and no one else has one, I'll look harder at finding one. I think Chief found one in Yellowstone but I won't be there prior to this trip.

It's Up To You, However
Newgirl,

As Aero mentioned @ brunch, if twenty people go on this trip there's going to be twenty stoves, twenty h2o purification systems, twenty containers of fuel, twenty first-aid kits, etc. Hopefully, when we all get to Aero's Cabin we can narrow down some of those items and save some weight for people.

I know you're going to school and raising a little girl so if there's an expensive item you can't justify the expense of get by without it. Someone on this trip WILL have it. Just be sure to have what personal items you need.

I'm not trying to talk you out of buying gear, but it's not cheap and you don't need it all at once. Tevas are probably the best sports sandal you can buy. They last forever and I'd be willing to bet nearly everyone on this trip has them. BUT, THEY ARE NOT CHEAP!

Newgirl, I just got to the post office at lunch today. Sent the pack, a fleece jacket, and rain gear.

If you wear a womens small, you can borrow one of my capilene tops.

I have a pair of REI bottoms I don't use anymore. They're yours if they fit.

I have a extra hat, but the rim is floppy now since I put it in the washer. Its like the one I wear all the time.

Geezr, I'll look for the star chart tonight.

Ms Geezr Is On Ball
Newgirl,

Malinda reminded me, she has a pair of Tevas you're more than welcome to use. I think they'd be about a size 7, but if you're a size smaller or bigger they'd probably be just fine.

Other things you're more than welcome to are;

Thermarest 20x72
Thermarest seat 14x20
MSR treking poles
Nalgene h2o bottles
Gore-Tex jacket that I use for the bike commute to and from work. It's a tad beat up but will function.
Floppy hat with wide brim

There's probably more that I'll think of later.

Irritating!!!!
its hard to follow the trips progress with all this chit chatting about what to wear. I dont like reading through 45 post before I find anything, if at all!

Owell who am I to talk!!

SnowNymph, you are the life saver. I do wear a women's small. If you don't mind me borrowing even more stuff I'd love to borrow the top and try the shorts. Let me know the cost of shipping, I will send a check.

Geezr, thanks for your offers as well. I have a thermarest. I don't need a chair or poles or Tevas. Although, I sort of hate Nalgene (too trendy) I will be getting two of my own. Thanks so much though.

I going to be fine (thanks to all of you experience, generous people). I just get a little nervous and intimidated.

No Tevas for me(vas)
I bring my boots - that's it.

(Actually, I am considering some water shoes fer fishin'...)

Chewy -
I have a pair of my mama's old combat boots you can borrow...
I think they're men's size 14.

Also, you can borrow my all-cotton (the fabric of our lives) parka. It's kinda small waisted, but HUGE about the chest and shoulders. Hee!

Are you gonna fish, Chewy? The reason I'm asking is because Sarabelle will be busy helping watch for fish, and won't be much help with baiting the hook. I figure you can get enough experience baiting that by the end of the trip you could very well qualify as Master Baiter!

I was awarded my Master Baiter certificate at age 14. It was a monumental moment.

Somebody say "skeeters"?
Hmmmmmm...
sounds like a good trip to market my New and Improved SuperSwat 2000.

The Fabric Of My Life
Gojo, the fabric of my life is silk. Got any of that? Kidding. I don't need the parka. I live in Montana, man. I got plenty of coats. As for the combat boots, that's okay. I'd be happy to fish w/ you. I earned my Master Baiter certificate at 13. I developed my skills early (hehehe, I kill me).

LeSub, what's w/ the enormous Nalgene collection? I seriously have dough saved for some other "gear" purchases, but if you have plenty . . .

I have 4 kids who used to bp w/ me. I doubt if all 4 will ever all go with me at once again.

They are the 32 oz. poly type w/o the captive top.

No newgirl. It is just better to get out and see what you like before you buy gear. I am constantly replacing gear when I see something that I like better. These trips are a good chance for you to see what works. I'm sure I will see something that someone else has and end up wanting to buy one.

Once Newgirl goes on this trip she won't be a NEWgirl any more.

I hereby challenge each and every one you trail bums to start thinking a NEWname for her.

Is this a backpacking trip we are going on or a hiker infested, backpacking, party-til-you-drop orgy?

I need to know so I can pack accordingly...
