We got the Wyoming Topo last night! Now we can figure out if we can do the mileage.

Newgirl, I hope you can make it!

Gojo, I'll help Sarabelle's stuff if needed.

Snow Nymph, what are you doing home? I thought you'd be on a trail somewhere by now.

I think you'll be OK mileage-wise. Did you throw in an extra day, or two, to be on the safe side? Like Mike and I said earlier, the shuttle will probably be the hardest part.

Geezr, I was at work....Just got home. Its 6:42pm now, and we'll be leaving in another hour or so....waiting for traffic to die down. If I leave at 6pm, I arrive at midnight. If I leave at 8pm/9pm, I arrive 12:30-1:30am Make sense? (LA traffic)

Snow Nymph, been there, done that. Our son lives in Simi Valley so I know just what you mean. Enjoy your trip!

By the way we'll be out to L.A. in Oct. Our son, an exec for EMI, is taking us to see two Rolling Stones shows. One at the Staple Ctr. and one in a small club somewhere. We last saw them in '95 on their Voodoo Lounge Tour. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited!

Yum. Alaskan Summer Ale. Sounds good. Haven't tried it, but I have a few Sam Adams Summer Ales in the fridge - woo hoo, they ROCK!!!!!!!!!

[Note that CMD has still not run its course....]

Checked my email Geezr - very funny!

BTW, re: the Stones, it's "Sir Mick" to you....

Re: plans for ng's prof, shhhhhhh - don't let my dad find out. You know, the ex cop thing and all....

Weather report for Oakland, CA about an hour ago (6:30 PM): 58, Cloudy, Windy (wind chill about 50). Summer's here!!!!!!!

Mid 80's predicted for the next eight days here in Billings. A tad too warm for me, but I'll take it over 58 any day. I'm off for six of those days. Agenda is hiking and biking with a little yard work thrown in to keep peace in the household.

I was in Oakland back in '68. The Army housed us there while we waited flights to Vietnam. Would like to see it again under better circumstances.

Geezr, You're gonna see those old geezers???

Ummm, if you can get extra tix for the small place, let us know! (can't go Oct 18-20, I'm leading a canoe trip that weekend) I saw the Stones at the Forum when I was 16. Hmmm, that was almost 30 years ago! I might become a geezerette pretty soon! How time flies!

We were at the Staple Center a year ago for the Girls Night Out Concert. Great concert.

Well, gotta get on the road. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Correction to Snow Nymph's previous message - if there's tickets available to the Stones at a small club during the canoe trip, she'll be looking for a new canoeing partner!!

I believe the dates are Oct 31 at the Staple Ctr & Nov 3 for the club date. Apparently access to the club is by invitation. So, not sure how many Derek has, or can get.

You two have a great weekend! Travel Safe.

Saturday morning, grass is watered, dog is fed and walked, basement vacuumed and bike is washed, lubed and tires aired up.

Martyb, where are you headed in the Desolation Wilderness? Checked a few web sites in between chores. Looks like a great spot. How long are you going?

wow geezr....all that done already? you must get up at dark thirty! i am just wakin up...heh...its saturday...and rainy..!....today i get to break down my kitchen....they will be tearing down the entire back of "the money pit" next week , getting a new roof too.......i will be camping and kitchen will be on the front porch using the trangia and primus...for a week and a half....
skeery thing..........the folks at Lowe's sold me a chain saw...i was going to give it a whirl today, but i think i will wait til after montanapalooza.....ya know...i figured i needed both arms and legs for the hike.....

cant wait to get out west and walk in the woods and sleep in the woods with you CRAZY people that ROCK.

om, sounds like your camping is starting early. I guess setting up shop on the back porch isn't exactly roughing it, but I'm glad it's you and not me. I hate home repairs, but love chain-saws. ;-)

H2o won't be a problem. The entire route follows one drainage course or another. Aero has picked lakes to camp at for each night. Do bring one purification system, or another. Giardia, etc is always a possibility.

I Should Get The Stones Invitations . . .
After all, they wrote a song for me a few years back. Plus, I love Mick as much or more, then I love the soccer boys. So, work it out Geezr. I know w/ the whole professor thing that you and Aero have worked out, that adding the Stones is a lot to do for me, but I'm worth it. Really. I'm such a nice girl. HeHeHe!

SnowNymph, I am going on a hike tomorrow and filling the pack up heavy and trying it out for some distance. I'll let you know how it goes.

Wow - I think I just read about 200 posts, trying to get caught up, on the Palooza news, from the last week.

Thanks for the emails and 'best wishes' for my dad. It looks like my departure for Montana will have to be a last minute decision.

I guess I'll just have to contain my exitement, until I'm actually on my way. I'd really hate to miss this one. It's gonna be good times and I'm redy for that!

Coordinates & Muleages
Martyb, thanks! Another Alaskan Amber for you! Yes, we've decided to go in from the Beartooth Hwy end because of the 4000' elevation gain . . . ego, you know! The difference in mileage from Timberline Trailhead to the plateau is probably in the switchbacks. We did that portion of the hike last year and I think I have the gps mileage recorded somewhere.

So, we're looking at 14-15 miles, with an elevation gain of 4100' and a descent of 3000'. Sounds like a fair day-hike for a bunch of old farts.

When I get out there is there going to be a place where I can buy maps on this trip?

Thanks Big Brown Truck!
The "sekert prizes" have been delivered! Y'all are gonna FREAK!

Sissy's two week check-up is Friday. Mebbe the doc won't grimmace at the mention of a week-long MT hike like he did the day of the surgery. We'll see...

Her leg looks great (swelling wise). She's been resting it quite well. She really misses playing gimmedat, tho. She's concerned that she will get FAT for lack of "exencise".
(o;

Gizmo has been great. He's been at her side all the while. He wrestles with her (her head, actually) as she lies on her side. He's very gentle with her - they are too funny.

Thanks for the offers to help pack her gear. It would be great if y'all could pack her sleepy bag, thermarest, tent, stove, filter, etc, too - hmm?

SnowNymph, the pack fits perfectly. I barely adjusted a thing. The pants are a little short, but they'll work. Thanks again! I did a practice walk w/ it on Sun. It went good.
