The time snuck up on me! Got 16 days til we leave, and there's a overnighter and 4 day holiday in there, which leaves me with 10 days to get ready. I warned my boss that I would be sealing my food during lunch in our conference room.

Newgirl,
If you can't make the whole trip and have to leave after 2 days, you could always come back on Friday and hike in with newergirl til you meet up with us, then hike out.

Hoping that I don't have to, but what if someone needed to hike out on Wednesday, fly out on Thursday?(I would rent a car) Would it be too much to finish the hike to the other trailhead? How many miles would we be talking about? I know it is mostly downhill the last few days. At least that was what I was lead to believe.:)

Please put me on the "secret email" list also. If you'd be so kind as to forward the maps etc. to me I will print them out for Jerbear who as you probably know is currently in the Tetons (today anyway) and won't get back to his computer until after the Montana trip.

That week is statistcally the warmest week of the year in Montana. It could be as low as the 30's at night and daytime high up to about 80, but most likely 40's-70's. If you had a rain jacket and a fleece top, you'd be ready for anything. The sun can get pretty brutal up there, so stay covered! it's probably a lot like the Sierras- maybe a little cooler.

There's usually a late afternoon thundershower of short duration, but unless a big cold front moves in it should be pretty dry."

Prowler what Geezer said. You 'll need protection from the wind and rain. A lite wieght rain jacket and a fleece jacket or vest should be ample for night time and when resting while on the trail during the day. I'll normally throw a fleece or rain jacket on so as not to cool off to fast while breaking for lunch or something. Pack a set of dry clothes in case it rains or something you could change into once you have reach camp. Nothing like taking off a sweaty tee the end of the day and putting on a dry one to raise the comfort factor. Hike in one tee and have one for camp and sleeping and back up.

People . . .
I will definitely have to leave on the 17th. I am frickin' flunking my stinkin' math class. I may not be able to come at all, 'cause I might be in prison. I'm very near to gettin' homicidal on my sh!#head advisor's a$$. Why? Why would she advised me to take this class during summer session, w/ some old, humorless Slavic guy?

I am sorry to disappoint everyone, but I have a life outside Montanapalooza (I know, hard to imagine really) and it must be handled. However, the idea of bringing Newergirl and meeting up w/ all ya'll on the other side (SnowNymph you are a source of great ideas) on Friday might be just the ticket.

Om, after I get home from school tonight, Newergirl and I are going to try a practice run w/ the tent in the yard. SnowNymph, I got complimented on your pack. I was told that "it sort makes me look sexy." Thaaaanks! I had no clue that this pack would help me out in that area!
newgirl

Dump the math class and take the summer off from school. You need a break anyways. Trust me, you will never regret it.

Don't sweat the small stuff...and it's all small stuff.

Newgirl,
You're very welcome!

You can do a overnighter with us at the beginning and do a dayhike at the end. I've done that before (like last weekends Llamarama). At least you're there for part of it!

martyb: I forgot to post my e addy, its grach96@hotmail.com . Those maps would be soooooo appreciated!

newgirl: math classes in a summer session are tough! If you are having that much trouble and want to maintain your GPA, have you considered dropping this class? During my college days I dropped classes twice for much the same reasons . . . and was very glad I did! Some teachers just make learning very difficult. Anyway hope you can make the trip, but if not your schooling IS much more important.
sb
10:04:22 AM
6/27/02

If you are gonna flunk it get out now for sure!! Take it later with possible a different teacher or find a alternative for that credit come fall. Nothing is worse than taking a 'D or F', cause your GPA will never fully recover. If you get out in time you might get a little refund action for Moose Drool !!!!!!!

I guess you tried to bargin with him? Is the only class you are taking at that time?
Briar Rabbit

Chief, here is my dilemna (did I spell that right?):

One must take a certain number of credits per semester to qualify for financial aid. The min. being 6. If I drop this class I will have only taken 3 (my first summer session class). My financial aid will be revoked for this semester, obviously, it has already been spent, which means I will have to pay it back out of pocket. That is a total impossibility. There are no third session classes that meet my degree requirements and are at night, so trading this class for another one . . . is a total impossibility. If I flunk the class, I will lose all that money and time, plus financial aid will put me on academic probation (they care not that I have had a 4.0 until now, if I flunk they will be on my arse), so flunking . . . is a total impossibility. Plus, I expect a certain level of performance out of myself academically and not passing a class is unexceptable or . . . a total impossibility.

So, I am going to make as much of the trip as I can, learn as much as I can from all the bping gurus, get as much use as I can out of the gear so generously donated to my cause, meet as many nice TTers as I can, and have as much fun as I can . . . just in a shorter time frame.

Maps are a-comin' -- Hotmail didn't like all of 'em at once, so you'll get a bunch of different emails. The big ones still may not send, but they're less critical....

Sure enough, the bigger maps (about 3 megs each) are just bouncing. Let me know if you have another address that will accept the big files. Seems like the smaller ones made it OK.

There's gotta be a host of folks here that can help you out with your class. I don't know which math class you're taking, but I could help with some math and statistics, just don't ask me about calculus.

Hints about the "secert prizes"?!
Not on your life!

Sexy Texy -
You need not reciprocate...
unless you feel absolutely compelled to do so.
(in which case, I'll take the Snickers headband ;o)

Chewy -
I would be willing to escort you into the hills on Fri, Sat, and/or Sun after MTpalooza. I'll have the time. Mebbe get Newerly sat for the weekend? Mebbe a short hike to a lake camp for fishin' and relaxin'? Or mebbe somewhere on the prairie? Think it over...

Ooo! Mebbe I could hike out with you on the 16th, spend the 17th fishing, then rejoin you early on the 18th - at which time we could hike from the other (east) end and reach the TT camp that afternoon/evening. Then, hike out with the group on Friday. You GOTTA spend more than two measly days out there... you've come too far.

Maps, maps, maps!
I assume I'll be able to get one locally - huh?

I've perused Topozone's onliner. The Beartooths kick ass!

No court for me - I just told them I know YOU and they hustled me right outta there! Gojo, I was planning to hike out on the 17th. I would really appreciate anyone that wants to escort me out. (I'm a little bit 'fraidy cat to do 10 miles by myself in the big bad mtns.) I would completely understand if nobody is up for that, though. I was then thinking that Newer and I would do (as SnowNymph suggested) a dayhike in at the other end on the 19th. Want to do that Gojo . . . or anyone who takes pity on me. LOL!

Plan b.3.7
How about gojo and newgirl meet up earlier, say the 12th. Then they head out on the 13th from East Rosebud and meet the group somewhere in between, probably the Cooke City side near Fossil Lake.

They could be there by Tuesday easily, the same day the group would be there. From Fossil they could easily make it out on Wednesday.

The could then dayhike in on Firday, carrying cold beer of course, and meet up with the group.

And, if they were real nice, they would carry packs out for people.
