The Wheeler Peak area is nice. I've never done the peak but have XC skied and hiked the area quite a bit.

Montanapalooza vs Taos area/Wheeler Peak with your wife? Tough choice! Great trip either way.

Thoughts of last years Llamarama trip where I got into Pepper Dogs' pants and I slept with I-Am-Om are calling for a repeat. Is it possiable to add one more to this MT-TT-BP?
I must get more of the JOY of hiking with I-Am-Om.

As long as you offered beer....what's the chances of scoring some "Moose Drool"?
That stuff is GOOD!
The-Naviguesser

yep, I tried Moose Drool in Bozeman. Tasted just fine that night.

Beer orders
I'll see if I can stock up on some Moose Drool for the cabin. Black Dog (Bozeman) and Himmelburger (Billings) are good ones too! There's also a place up at Cooke City that has 110 beers (ask Chief!)

Yup. I'll check the local liqour store to see if they can get it in keg form. I have a ton of coupons where I can get a FREE keg!!!!!

Did you hear that RAD? Free Beer to those who come.
Chief

Black Dog? Himmelburger? Ow! Ow! Let go of my arm! I'll try them! I'll try them! Ow! Ow!

Do you think these are better than "Double Malted Llama Logger"?
Speaking of that, what's the best way to transport (on an airplane) homebrew?
The-Naviguesser
12:38:19 PM
4/02/02

Transporting Beer
1. Put beer in kegs
2. Strap kegs to wooden pallets
3. Forklift pallets onto charter cargo plane
4. Fly very carefully and do not open first keg until plane is safely on the ground

Ah, Hodgeman! How much of that good, Canadian brew can you bring across the border these days?

Judging from the posts recently, I think a "beer tasting" is in order.

So who is going to come to Cody to make sure the keg gets loaded, iced down and delivered to Cooke City?

The keg(s) will be in Cody. That's abnout 100 miles south of Billings.

It is a much nicer town (Cody) than Billings, but don't tell Aero.
Chief

Cody sounds like my kind of town.

I think you can fly into Cody fairly easily. As long as we can get everyone to meet early Sunday (July 14) you could fly in anywhere.
aero

Whoops. I meant MEET IN RED LODGE early Sunday so we can get the shuttle out of the way before we head over to Cooke City!

Hey Aero - No problem taking our beer out of Canada.... and it's cheap at the 'duty free'. But, if there's more than 24 left when I come back in (like that ever happens), then I pay tax and duty.

I'll be sure to bring a seletion, along. Perhaps some Molson's, Kokanee, Moosehead, Granville Island....... oooohhhh there's so many!!!

Is this backpacking or drinking or are they one in the same? HeHeHe! Hey Aero, is it absolutely ridiculous to bring a swimsuit? I know the water will be cold, but will it bring on instant hypothermia if I take one nerve-tingling dip?

newgirl - are you trying to get the guys even more excited about this trip???
pepperDog

4/08/02

No, I'm trying to get myself excited about it. I know I'm not even close to as skilled a backpacker as the rest of you and I'm pretty nervous about it. Swimming in some mtn. lakes seems like a good way not to have worry.

Plus . . . I think they are all real worked up over the beer. HeHeHe!
newgirl

I think there's a regulation up in the Beartooths banning swimsuits.
aero
10:38:12 AM
4/08/02

No Swimsuits Allowed,
except if used as clothing. I should get into my pic's of this trip and get some scanned. I have one of a friend skinny dipping in Mermaid Lake.

I think he was hoping the name would bear some fruit, but it did not. Mermaid Lake is just south of Fossil Lake on the south side of the drainage divide.

Refreshing!
I've taken dips in Aero Lakes and Dewey. It sure feels good after a long day of hiking. As far as tempurature goes; that water was probably snow and ice less than 24 hours ago! Then there's the shrinkage factor.......
aero
10:54:09 AM
4/08/02

Banning swimsuits? Are you sure that isn't a little white lie? I'm serious though, is it going to be way, way to cold. I've only been up there in late spring and early fall, never in the middle of summer. At those times of the yr. I would not even consider putting a toe in the water, what about in the summer?
newgirl
10:56:28 AM
4/08/02

It will be pretty cold, but I do it at least a couple times a week just to freshen up some.

Otherwise just splash the old face with some water from the stream to get some of the grime off.

Of course the women don't have that 'shrinkage' thing going on, but talk about making the headlights glow, that's another story altogether.
Chief

It's FRIGID!! Even in the summer the ice has only been off the lakes for a week or so. Check out this pic from early July with the ice in the background...

Aero Lake

But, it feels good to dive in real quick. Sort of like the guys who run out of the sauna and jump in a snowbank.

Good point.

Don't worry about your lack of backpacking skill - if you can walk you can backpack and there will be plenty of people willing to take it easy to keep the slower ones company.

Last Memorial Weekend one of the guys on our trip walked into Muir Lake to fill his water bottle. I missed the shot of him taking a dip. http://community.webshots.com/photo/15644174/15644357wmyZjdnVuG
Someone sent me a pic from the weekend before this was taken and the lake was 95% frozen.

Aero, what is that thing hanging out of your mouth?

And the geyser pic near Heart Lake, is that the place you told us to dayhike? Don't have the map with me.

Someone shoved a piece of string cheese in my mouth because they thought I looked hypothermic.

The geyser pic is from Rustic Geyser. It's about 50 yards from the lake shore and you can hike right up to it. ( Although not too close). There's another, smaller geyser next to it that actually went off while we were waiting for Rustic to erupt! It's a real facinating area

LOL snow nymph- that could be in the Beartooths too! I've looked at your album pics of the Sierras.Cool! It looks a lot like the terraine in the Beartooths-- lot's of cool, granite outcrops, waterfalls and lakes!
