Well, the boys should be at Ouzel Lake, or Bald Knob, cooking up a batch of brookies right about now!

They had a great day weather-wise.

CMB, Martyb, his son, Cameron and his Dad, Charlie are hiking the same route we did. Today was their first day out.

Martyb and Cameron were over on Friday for a visit before they left on Saturday to shuttle vehicles. They'll be stopping in on the 29th as well.

Star Gazing Chart
Navi, I loaned them your star gazing chart for the trip hoping they'd get more use from it than we did. ;-) Hope you don't mind.

I did get to use it on the Pacific Creek Bridge Project and had a good time with it. One of the volunteers was familiar with the night sky which also helped.

hey geezr, I think I was at that gas station . . . as the crane's shovel comes swooping down . . .

well I went bpacking this weekend, but it sure wasn't Montana!! But still very good to get out.

gforce, as long as you can get out, that's what counts. I went into work at 4:00 A.M. last Thursday and then got in a hike to Moon Lake. I wasn't out as long as I would have liked, but it was better than being at work. I'm off the next five days and plan on wearing myself out hiking and biking.

Geezr, glad someone got some use of it. Maybe Marty can bring it back to Calif. Then I'll just have to hook up with him. Or you could keep it and bring it to Sierrapalooza 2003 when you come down.
Now ain't that a grand thought?!

Navi, now that sounds like a plan! I was hoping to do the Emigrant Wilderness in September, but Sierrapalooza sounds pretty good as well.

So Geezr, how did the raft work up on Moon Lake (other than for a shelter from the hail)?

BTW, your pics are awesome!!

Aero
It didn't. There was so much lighning and the wind blew so hard that he was too leary to launch it. He used it several years ago at Glacier Lake and it performed well. To me, it's more trouble than it's worth, but can be handy to reach spots you can't get to on foot. The whole thing only weighs 3 lbs.

Aero . . . Photo 26 of 29
Check out the Moon Lake photos again and look at 26. I'm assuming the pile of darker stones was left as the glacier receded and was probably a longer line but action to each side carried the other rocks off leaving just this smaller pile. Am I close?

Are there any good geology books that a simple mind such as myself good comprehend? Maybe, "Geology for Dummies."

Since it's all the same color, it might be a zone of ultramafic rock (dark, dense rock) left as an erosional remnant. There are a lot of dark rocks containing chromium deposits along the Hellroaring Plateau that look kind of like that. That looked like a great trip. I've only been in there briefly on a day hike.

We were up at Cooke City all last week and just missed martyb at the Cooke City Sinclair when we left on Sat. I bet he's having a great time right about now!

Wow, keep the thread alive, will ya, there's only 78 more needed for 3,000!!

I bet that would be a trail talk first, even longer than the who have you met thread!!

A Sierrapalooza next year? Where, When?? Guess I better go read the thread someone started here on that subject, eh??

Geezr - did you ever ask your wife about room swapping between Montana and Texas - you know, I come up there when it's hot here and you come down here when it's cold there! I think it's a swell deal, let me know what Melinda thinks - okay?

;-)

fumbling toward 3000
well, the scanner has fizzled....last night i was going to scan pics from day 3 thru the end (over the pass by fossil lake and on )...i plugged in the scanner and unbeknownst to me, it was the the printer power cable which is also black... a few minutes later smelled like burning wires....sigh. and well.....it matters not at this point, i have a 2yr..thingy on it at best buy.....

sooooooooooooooo....to make a long story longer....who knows when i will get around to the rest of the trip pics? any ole way...snownymph pretty much has covered a lot of the ones I took and did a much better job....as after a while, i could only gaze and pranam....forgetting i had a camera sometimes......not to mention...running out of film at rainbow lake.

that being said , i will now submit the first half of my montanapalooza experience ......unedited ..words escape me and the pics speak for themselves...

you will have to cut and paste, for a horsnby draft cider has rendered my html skills useless just now.

Om - Super pictures of Montanapalooza! I love getting different perspectives on the same trip.
Funny, the moon has very different phases on our trip from a flesh color to almost a glowing luminescence in the night sky..lmbo!!!

Geezr - about this swapping thing - this could be a might interesting since I don't have "anything" to swap..lol

Malinda hopefully is the understanding type..I really just meant houses, but after I read it, thought "Oh my, what did I just say??"

I look forward to coming back to visit - I'm thinking an October trip to the Sierras might be do-able this year..checking my calendar now...
