LMAO
You, Hodge, should stick with a tent. And keep the tarp too.

Well, I guess that's the point, Navi: there's only a problem (for me) if it's raining (or mosquito-ing) and I have to be inside. Otherwise, windows can be zipped open, etc., or I could sleep outside. If you can guarantee good weather and no bugs, I'll go with a bivy!! Better yet, just a sleeping bag!

Marty, don't you hike in the Sierra?
There's your good weather. And the mosquitoes go away at night.
The stars! The stars! More than an open doors worth.

Agree on the weather. However, have you ever wondered where the mosquitos go at night? Mosquito: "Hey guys, we just got word that Martyb is camping over in the Emigrant - YEE HAW!! LET'S GO GET 'IM!!!!!"

Geezr -

I know Bpbaby had the Zoid and loved it, I bought her REI Sololite (3 lbs) and have no regrets.

For me, having room to sit up and change, good ventilation and vestible space are all assets.

I imagine you have your own list of "must haves" as well. Some of those other tents you mentioned are nice but pricey. Someone on the women's hiker list said there's a website where you can buy the patterns and make your own tents.

Are you feeling ambitious this winter? Maybe you could start a side business in Montana during the cold months when y'all are just dreaming about b-packing?? LOL

Miss y'all!!

Marty, so that's why I don't have mosquitoes at night. You're there too. Many thanks.

True story: Took wife backpacking. I came home with 60 mosquito bites; she had 2.

I should charge for this service.

Its kind of GOOFY that you all are posting on Montanapalooza thread when there is threads on these subjects all over the board!

& I guess its only the TT'ers that went on this trip that post kind of leading to Montanapalooza TT'ers only thread. a group inside a group!

by the way, martyb - this is apparently a private thread and I don't remember you on the montanapalooza trip. Maybe having covered the exact same ground gives you some connection.

Pdog, I know. I feel like I'm crashing the party. I feel so, so............ bad.

However, in my defense, in addition to technically covering the same ground, I also drank some of Geezr's beer - does that get me into the club?
martyb

Yes, I think so - plus you provided pre-hike maps to the out of towners, so that is a definite plus in my book.

I nominate martyb as an honorary member of Montanapallooza 2002. But to keep that title you have to show up at the reunion tour - Montanapallooza 2003.

Have I told you yet how happy I am with my latest software?

Unfortunately, Malinda (Weezer) isn't quite as thrilled. We hiked into Quinnebaugh Meadows yesterday and the sign at the trailhead said it was 5 miles (10 roundtrip). Topo came up with 9. She insists it was 10 and she has the sore muscles to prove it. ;-)

Topo Mileage
Yeah, I guess you would have to say the TOPO! mileage is probably plus or minus 10%, which would make a 9-mile measurement 8.1-9.9 miles. I have found that if anything it underestimates a bit. Of course, it could be operator error....

Did they let you back across the border AND did you get a new trail name?

Any other Montanapaloozans around today????????? I'm already tired of all the in-fighting on the current threads. I need some cheer after working all weekend.

And, it's about time we got a better thread going anyway. Unfortunately, I will be out of the office this week. Bummer thing is I'll be in northern Colorado at 8500' doing outside work. That sucks!!!!! NOT!!!

Snow Nymph, lots of clouds over the Beartooths yesterday on the way home, but there appears to be some above 8000' + or -. As Chief stated, more is predicted over the next several days.

Chief, I'm feeling pretty sad about the tough situation you're in,

Newgirl, If there's anything you need, you know where we're at. Our thoughts are with your sister, and you. Weezr wants to know where your sister is at. She is a respiratory therapist in the NICU @ DBC.

Yes, still giving it serious thought. Hoping to do the Grand Canyon in April and B.C. in August and hoping Sierra 03 can be worked in as well. Following the thread and love the route Navi has proposed.
