Questions
Hi Everyone! I hope everyone had a great holiday! I have a couple of questions I was hoping you could help me with. My husband and I would like to go to the Grand Canyon and do 5-7 days of hiking, rafting, backpacking, repelling, and possibly horseback riding. Can anyone recommend some good guides or tour companies?
Thank you!!

Sunny, you might wanna check with the Park Service there. They have Visitor Information up the bazoo on this stuff.

'nother way is type in Grand Canyon in your browser, and about a billion options will provide you all the info. you seek.

Try www.kaibab.org. A lot of info on that web page and it's pretty easy to find what you need. Also you may want to peruse 'Hiking the Grand Canyon' by John Annerino. It has a decent amount of info on climbing along with hiking and backpacking. I'm planning a few trips into the canyon this year. Godd Luck.

I fear you are trying to jam too much stuff into too few days. If you take a river trip you will need a minimum of 7 days for a motor trip. 16 days or more are needed for an oar trip. You could do some hiking from the river. There are only two trails you can take your own horses on and they have LOTS of folks on them. That might take up one day or two.

For guides you might like to take a course from the Grand Canyon Field Institute. You can chose your emphasis--geology or plants or whatever they offer.

All of the national park sites are shut down because of a court order so I can't give you better info right now.

I figured you'd have more specific advice, MaryPhyl. What's the deal with the court order and the websites? I noticed that a couple days ago.

Never mind. I read the thread.

The fuss with the tribes is way old--like years. The Bureau of Indian Affairs can't find records of most of the stuff. It was apparently stored in cardboard boxes in damp places. Anyway--because the national parks are part of the dept of the interior when they slapped the thing on the BIA it hit them too. God knows when it will ever end.

Thanks
Thanks! I have been searching on the web...and it is a little overwhelming. I have never been there before, and am not sure when I will get to go again, so I want to do as much as possible while there. Again, thanks for the info.
